New wheels and tyres for track?

(1/3) > >>

Hi, I am going to start doing track days and would like a bit of advice on wheels and gyres. I have looked at a lot of reviews etc, and am I right in assuming the TD 1.2 or are the 1.3s better? Also what size would I be best going for I'm on et35 19s at minute, would I be best sticking to et35 but moving to 18s and what rim width would you say is 8 ok or should I go 8 at front and 9 at rear? I have also looked at the r1r and the r888 which is the better of the 2? Thanks guys.

Hurdy:
I've had 2 sets of TDPR 1.2's on my car and they were both great. Also had both R1R's and R888's on too.

The TDPR 1.2's have the motorsport logo on them and the 1.3's don't. They weigh roughly the same size for size too, so it would boil down to design preference.

For track I'd stick with some 8" x 18" alloys at your normal Scirocco offsets. The tyres will be cheaper too - in fact I'm unsure if R888's are available in 19".

As for the tyres, the R888's ultimately have more grip, but the R1R's are quieter on the road and better in the wet. I'd say you get 90+% of the traction of the R888's with the R1R's in the dry and 100% better grip from the R1R's over the R888's when it is very wet. In the damp the R888's are still better than the R1R's.

Thanks a lot been very helpful hurdy, do you know where the cheapest places are for these? Ive had a look and sure i found a site for wheels at £599 for 18s is this good? I will be hoping to be using these wheels and tyres just for trackdays (hopefully) dry ones. In this case would it be worth going for the R888s and whats the wear rate like on the 2? Thanks again.

18x8 in 35 is fine in td pr 1.2s been running them for 10 months on mine, transform the car, just turned down 19" pr 1.3s as too heavy for my liking

No rubbing on springs or coilies with em
