Replacing a RCD300 radio with RCD510 with DAB into Mk5 GT with upto date CANbus
ekim:
I have just bought a RCD510 on ebay and will be looking to install a DAB aerial. I would prefer to replace the existing aerial so I can get best possible reception.
A number of the link in the original post are dead now. What aerial would people recommend now? From what I have read and understand, I can use the cables that are already there with a new aerial, but will need to run a cable to enable DAB. Is there a good guide on how to do this? The link to the guide in the original post is dead.

sounds like he can get hold of the polo one which I have. I have a 4door and ran extra cable under roof lining, it was easy as it pushes behind the door seals on the roof lining. Don't waste your time on the window stick on ones, unless you live under the transmitter ;O)

Perfecto, will send him a note just as soon as I work out how :)
The running on the cable is fairly straight forward then? Not had much experience with this type of thing - managed to get in and take the RCD 300 out which was fairly easy following a guide. Pulling down the headlining looks a little more intimidating, but assume it is just clips etc.

Yeah a bit daunting at first, but just take your time, keep hands really clean, the pillar trims can just be partly pulled off at tops and bent down just a little. The worst bit was removing the old FM connector working upside down, a mirror would of helped. In the end I just yanked on it with a pair of pliers. You need a 20mm spanner and someone to hold new aerial in place whilst you fight to fit the nut underneath upside down. I ran new cable down passenger A pillar and above glove box, as I had been that route before with window aerial. Don't worry about airbag in A pillar, just leave it well alone ;O)
Oh just to make sure, you have got the DAB button on front top rh of rcd510? otherwise it won't be a DAB unit.......
ekim:
Yeah its got a DAB button, had been looking out for one as I know most of the RCD510 on eBay are from China so don't have built in DAB. Picked it up from the seller today, if my aerial adapter arrives tomorrow I will fit it with just FM/AM until I get the DAB aerial in place.
