Well...

4 studs snapped in the head on removal of the old turbo.  One bolt was also seized into the head where the heatshield/water pipe runs.  Then noticed that the head gasket was weaping oil and water. Popped the engine out to whip the head off. Head gasket had corroded between layers.

Then saw that one of the bores was polished up like a mirror and the others were not so good either. Removed the sump, checked crank float one of the thrust washers had worn.

Head needed the studs removing, the stronger valve springs fitting, new exhaust guides (which was a first) and the exhaust valves were badly pitted so needed cutting too.

For an engine with such little mileage its odd it needed so much work.

It's almost back together but I have another job ahead of Mike's which wasn't even booked in for this much work in the first place so lucky I've even got this far with it working it in around the two jobs booked before it.

Absolutely beyond me the state of the engine. Always warmed up and cooled down.  Had more fresh oil that Ive had hot dinners, 1st few years on Aral/BP 102 ron and Tesco 99 Momentum since then.

Did you say the valve coloration looked as though it had been running unusually hot, @vRSAlex ?
