2nd service complete
« on: March 26, 2009, 09:54:21 pm »
yep 18 months old 19,600 miles , 2nd service
yours for a cool £165  (forgot to ask for long life oil duh!)
requested again to get them to check engine mounts which they still say are ok but they are h*mped
Alas my front tyres have worn down to under 3mm in 8000 miles  so they will need replacing.
(Mich Pilot Sport 2 arent cheap anywhere I can find)
To be fair I have noticed it lights up the TC light in the dry now in 2nd and 3rd in the straight ahead position whereas it didnt before when there was more tread....
Brake fluid is next at 2yrs of ownership...

Yeah duncan , VW the car is still in warranty.
They mentioned the WALK kit (which is immediately obvious under the car) but werent bothered.
I havent as yet disclosed the map to them officially but Im sure they know its not std (I have an in dash boost guage as well)
I know RedRobin on here prefers to fully disclose before, but thats not my position, however if asked I will be honest, they havent yet.
If the map gets overwritten I'm close to Awesome to get the software put back on tbh
Car is switched to OE map and locked (APR software) for servicing
a) for std boost levels and b) so people dont want to try a remapped ED30
What you do depends on the relationship and the way the dealer reacts  :happy2:
Warranty should still be ok for items not deemed effected by mods, in terms of engine/clutch etc though it gets more risky as they are def under more strain. But thats the risk you take, if not dont remap.

Only Billy was slower and his clutch was shot.

GL, as in the one on Chester Road near The Scum's ground? They're spot on  :happy2:

Warrington are turd TC.. avoid like the plague.

Crewe are good, Macclesfield are great, the parts lads Martin (if he's still there now?) and Steve are bionic and can find the wierdest of things, even if they're not a UK part. The warranty manager however is a complete tool, I mean an absolute idiot.

I just bypass dealers completely for servicing, same on my C30 and the old Anni too... so I only know them in terms of warranty work and buying things, along with what others have said.

To put it into context, I had a second service (24 months), DSG service and brake fluid change for not much more than that one of John's and I know the work is 100%.
Sideways yo!

I really want to take it to Votex, as i know it will be done to a high standard, i just feel i am forced into the stealer's because of the warranty implication's and up dates, and i understand that they will use only oem parts but it will still complicate the mine field of warranty issues. i am not bothered about the residuals

My old Anni never had 1 service at a stealer - still got the ECU, window regs, alarm, expansion tank and wheels replaced on warranty without question.

Liz's old MKIV had numerous things done, The C30 has had warranty work done, My Monza's are in the process of being replaced and it's had a new armrest and ECU updates... all without question.

It's all a con mate, so long as it's somewhere reputable you're fine. This isn't a hard sell on Votex, any specialist is the same (well, maybe discounting a couple )

Of course, if it's a heap and has a book full of ebay stamps.. they're gonna ask questions - but a well looked after car doesn't even blip their radar, they're billing everything back to VW.

The lad who came to buy my Anni turned up, looked at the car, looked at the folder full of Votex bills and just gave me the money without even driving it. Didn't haggle - residuals, schmeisduals. I got top money for that too, in the credit crunch! Her Golf sold over the phone.

The only thing you're doing is closing down your market to an enthusiast buyer who appreciates quality work rather than Joe Public who wants a FVWSH, even if that means the work has been crap and the car unloved... so it can take a little longer to find the right buyer, but I don't believe it affects the price.

yeah , agree avoid Warrington VW , I too have heard some interesting stories.
And even though Warrington VW are closer for me , I choose to buy from GL Manchester and go back there each time.

they're billing everything back to VW.

This is what so many people are unaware of. When you take a VW in for warranty work, aslong as it satisfy's VW's criteria of being a faulty part then the garage just fills a form in and gets the part FOC from VW. The actual dealership doesnt pay anything for warranty parts.

Brake fluid is next at 2yrs of ownership...

I dont understand? everyone says this....

But my car has a sticker on it from VW which states that the first brake fluid change is at 3yrs and then every 2 years after that?

Seems there's a bit of a mixed bag when it comes to brake fluid changes. I'm lucky enough to know a mechanic at a VW garage of whom did my first service on the ED30. In my service book it mentions brake fluid changes at 2 years, yet the chap told me not to bother till year 3.

2 years does seem a little too soon in my eyes though.

IMO you should stick to 2 yearly interval brake fluid service as the fluid does absorb moisture over time decreasing braking efficency.
Without traction power is nothing!
