Brake pad warning!! why!!
« on: April 23, 2009, 11:55:03 pm »
Puzzling one this.

I've been getting the front brake pad wear warning lighting up on the dash, but I've checked the pads and they are still virtually brand new. Had a service just over 2 weeks ago and they said the same. Fluid is spot on between the marks too.The brakes are as strong as always, but there's the warning light, lighting up my dash. Any other reason I cannot think of why it should be coming on?

Oh, and remember that they aren't standard

Help! :scared:
Golf R gone.

does your new pad have the OEM style wire in pad for the sensor??

If they don't (and most non OEM pad don't have this) then that would be why.

Think to get round this some tuners offer a dummy wire set up to fool the sensor so that you don't get a light on dashboard.

Agree with the above.  Usually have to put a shorting link in to fool the wear sensing circuit into thinking it has brake pads with wear sensors fitted.

given that its just come on , suspect something has moved and shorted the sensor wire to ground.(as if pads had worn down)
Get the wheels off and check  :happy2:

The sensors were working fine until yesterday. I've had both the front wheels off to get a better look, but cannot see anything snapped or broken. All I can think of is that either the wiring has a break in it or the sensor has gone tits up!

Easily broken in-line or the connecter has got too hot, melted and shorted.

Just disable the wear indicator in vadgecom.  :happy2:

I'd rather repair than simply disable it.  although for now I think I'll do it to get rid of the annoying light!!
Is there a way through VCDS that I can decipher which sensor it is?

iirc there isn't a sensor as such as all that's detected is whether the circuit is open or closed.

An open circuit will produce the warning light. As you have no pad wear sensor, I can only suggest that one of the wires that comprise the circuit is broken.
