Does the GTI/Ed30 have a bulb warning?
« on: April 30, 2009, 12:56:46 pm »
I didn't realise that there was a warning light for a duff bulb because the light never comes on when I turn the ignition on.  However, I went out last night and had  the warning light on for leg one (no lights on) of my journey.  It was also on for half of leg two (no lights on), then went out on it's own, and didn't come on for leg three (headlights on). We checked all round the car when I got home and all lights are working fine. I've been out today and it hasn't come on again (sidelights were on).

I presume the car DOES have the bulb warning (because it came on!) but the lights are all in working order and the warning light is no longer on. Could it be something simple like a bulb come loose seeing as it went out on it's own halfway through a journey?     And could the warning light come on even though I didn't have any lights on at the time?

I presume you don't have the highline comp as this would show you which bulb was faulty??

But as it has stopped warning then it sounds like a loose connection or bulb tbh  :happy2:

Actually even the midline computers tell you which bulb is out. I've had my GT TDI for 3 years now and just the other week I had my first bulb warning. The little light bulb symbol in the rev counter came on, and the computer screen said something like "Warning - Nearside tail light failure". Sure enough one of my my tail lights had failed.

Mine's been on for the last six months because I couldn't be arsed to buy new sidelights. When you turn the ignition on, the highline should display which bulb is out.

....Use the opportunity to get some LED bulbs, Chris :happy2:

I reckon it was probably a hiccup in the connection, Claire.

....That's very kind of you, Steve

However, having automatic LED DRL's I don't ever just use sidelights anymore and so I don't think it's a worthwhile mod for me.

^^^ The one that might be of interest to you Robin is LED puddle lights, just fitted mine and they are much better than the stock yellow bulbs, (pics to follow once it gets dark)  :happy2:

^^^^
Yes - I actually use the puddle lights to illuminate where I place my aluminium ramps after my car is garaged. My dealer VAS'd them to the max time for me.

Am def interested :happy2:

Well the light came on again today and I took the opportunity to check all the lights whilst it was on and it turns out the offside sidelight was out.  Went out later and the light was still on the dash and this time I saw the message on the Highline :happy2:.  But then a further journey and the light was out and the sidelight was working again! :rolleye:

It's got a mind of it's own :signLOL:

I'm impressed that the car tells you when you have a bulb out though, none of my previous cars have done that and it's really good :happy2:
