5w40 or 5w30?

running 350bhp ed30 and oil levels are running low, and i normally top up with 5w30. opieoils recommended 5w40 instead. anyone else shed some light on which is best?

I believe greater power MK5s should run a more viscous oil to cope better with hotter engine temperatures?

5W-30 in a standard engine. Most on here who are modded also use 5W-30 but there's a growing consensus that 5W-40 is better for a modded engine as it tends to run hotter.

ill probably run 5w30 this time, but 5w40 shouldnt cause any issues if i run it next time?

5w40. The oil will keep its viscosity at high temps better :-)

Personally I'd use a better oil than Castrol. Mobil would be my choice.

Here in the states the recommended grade is 5W40. Going to do a change this weekend with Castrol SPT synt. and installing a drain valve as well. Drains will just be a flip of a switch from now on.

Castrol Edge 5w30 is far superior for TFSI engine then any Mobil oil. In fact don't think any Mobil is approved for VW TFSI engines
