Changing the Vw head unit to an aftermarket unit

Hey guys looking for some info on the above as I currently have the six disc vw unit in the ed30 and have saw a nice alpine double din screen! 8)  My questions are would the new unit basically be a plug in and play method obviously a new fascia will be needed but do I need a canbus adapter or such like?!  And I'm also thinking of putting a sub and amp package in the boot along with uprating the speakers

Any info on these would be great  :happy2:

SteveS:
yes u need an ISO adaptor for the car, for external amps/sub u need outputs from ur headunit which u should get with that one

bacillus:
Do it and your VW dealer may not want to use their machine to scan your car for fault codes...

SteveP:
It you want plug and play then a CAN BUS iso adapter is needed, this will supply the switched 12v+ and lights on/dimmer signal/wires that aren't present on the standard loom.

Other wise you will need to run at least the 12v+ switched from one of the spare points in the fuse box.

The difference is about £50 for the CAN BUS ISO adapter or a £10 for the standard adapter.  :happy2:

PS - I will move this to the Car Audio section
