3m Perfect-it III - Opinion?
« on: September 05, 2013, 01:29:45 pm »
Chaps,

What are your views on the 3M products for detailing?

More specifically the 3M Perfect-it prioduct line?

I used to do some electrical work for Nissan JFE Exeter and it was the only product the used on the GTR's. The detailer swore by the brand, just getting your opinions on it?

Thanks

They are OK.
Ultimately 5 different detailers will use 5 different products.

I for example use Menzerna. I know people who use Scholl, G3, 3M, etc.

Ultimatley use what you like and use it in the correct manner and you'll get good results.

Sweet.

I just like the idea of having colour coded bottles to pads. Makes it less likely for dipsh*ts like me to make a mistake!

Most bottles have a cut indicator on them, EG Menzerna and Megs polishes have a line with a marker printed on the bottle as to the level of cut.

If you cannot really remember what polish does what then I'd probably stick to Hand polishing
3M Fast cut is VERY aggressive just so you are aware.

Haha! Nah, It's only the simplness of colour coding I like. One of them OCD things I guess. Lol.

You could always use a bit of 3434 tape on the bottles and write on it haha.

Up to you really what you want to use, I like Menzerna as the finish they give is genuine, some have filling agents in them.

True true!

I need to just look through products then. Definitely give your Menzerna stuff a go.

The perfect it range is prob one of the best systems out there. I've used a lot of differet ones over the years and it's very good.

I'm not keen on the green pads though they break down quickly

I usually go by what the professionals use with most products tbh, if a real professional uses it, it must be for a reason.

Just thought i'd put it out there :)

But what I explained earlier is that different professionals use different products.

As above, different professionals use different products and more importantly, they know the properties of their products and hence which will suit which paintwork. FWIW I use Menzerna polishes. I did have 3M pads but have since switched to chemical guys. However, I find their hex-logic pads deteriorate quickly so going to make the jump to Sonus pads next.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Orange pads do go quickly. You can get 1 car from 1 pad.
However if you use a 5.5 inch backing plate rather than a 5 inch the pads last longer.
The extra heat by using the 5 inch backing plate can cause the center of the pad to deform.

I'm still on the same white pad after 3 cars. (used to refine)

Sorry dude, I didn't mean for it to come over as if i was questioning your integrity :)

I may have to try this Menzerna stuff.. Sounds like good quality products.

Indasa make a good pad to be used with green top fast cut. A lot better than the 3m pad

Was going to purchase the full Perfect it III kit myself to detail my 30. Just wondering how the fast cut compares to Farecla G3 Liquid compound ?

Is it much more aggressive?
