No its a visual check also now-if it came with a cat from new then it has to be on

What if the exhaust is behind a heat sheild or other body parts, so that the MoT Tester cannot see it. Do they assume it is there, or assume the worst?

Only asking as the 170 TDi Catalyst is way way up beside the turbo, but you cannot really see it from under the car or under the bonnet.

Will be good to know for the future, although a nice shiney stainless downpipe might give the game away!   :rolleye:

Big shinny down pipe certainly will be a give away lol.  Wow I saw the change for particulates. Hadn't seen that. From what I know my cat is right after the turbo too.
