Will I need a new clutch? If so which one?

My edition 30 is going for a remap in a couple of months, going for stage 1.5!
Wil the clutch need changing for this? If so what do people recommend for a decent uprated clutch?

Helix clutch. Replace Dual Mass flywheel, slave cylinder and bolts while your at it.

I think you're looking at about £1000 all in including fitting.

Awesome sell the Helix for £469, but if they have none in stock, there is currently a 3 week lead time from the date of order.  I think they are 16 or so kits behind and they are hand made, so take some time to make.

When you order it, you need to specify SACHs or LUK flywheel.  If you don't know which FW you have (VW changed makes circa 2007), just buy a new LUK FW from EuroCarParts anyway, and get the clutch to match.   

Alternatively, there is the SACHS SRE Performance clutch which is rated to 400lbft, but the feedback I've read on it is very heavy pedal and judder when taking up the bite.   Neither are what you want in heavy traffic.

My original clutch at 85K has just started slipping in 4th and 5th at 3500rpm, following a remap, so it's not a case of if, but when.   To keep costs down, you can go for another stock clutch (£240 + FW) which will be fine for the first half of it's life, but it will slip again after that.

Cheers! Yeah I've heard about just getting a new standard one but they go again pretty soon after, sounds like it's worth paying for a decent one that will last

A new standard one will last you about 35-40K I reckon, depending on how you drive it.    I put over 60K on a Helix in my old VR6 Turbo and although it got heavier (all clutches do past 50% wear), it still gripped like sh*te to a blanket!

From my research on ETKA, the best bet for a dual mass FW is the Ed.30/R20 that is produced by LUK. The R20 has available a dual mass FW from Sachs as well (different PN). It can take the punishment of a tuned GTI Ed. 30 up to Stage 2 with ease.

Helix or Sachs both do good enough reinforced clutches. The Helix clutch is cheaper and for what was said previously it's better for a daily driver.

Not worth the risk IMO. buy a luk flywheel and replace both while you're in there anyway.
or if you decide not to, send the flywheel back as return.
