Cheers Jay, I know it's like a drug....just need a (to) fix
Right...next little add-on, is to change the chrome GTI grill badge to a red GTI badge! I prefer the red and black look, (I did this for my 25th anniversary golf too.)
So one evening I got to it. I removed the grill and pushed the standard grill badge out from the back.

I managed to get a genuine MK6/7 red GTI emblem off ebay for a tenner, (normally £25+) but I hadn't realised the fixings aren't the same as the MK5, so after a think! I used a hairdryer to heat the adhesive and remove the letters on both emblems from the backing and swap them over, ingenius! Worked a treat and you would never know!

A much better look for me. I'll need to do the rear now to match.

The next little "project", is to fit the missing towing eye on the Ed30 bumper.

I had to go to the stealers to get it, as they are like hens teeth to find anywhere. As you can see it needs colour coding to the car.

So, this is my spraying booth
A cardboard box to help contain any overspray.

Primer, Diamond Black Magic and Clear coat paints from Halfords.

First thing was to give the towing eye a good rubbing down.

Then I gave it a light coat of primer. I used a hairdryer to dry between coats.
I then rubbed it down again with 2000 grit, remove any ripples and lumps.

I repeated this process 3 times until it was lovely and smooth.

Then after drying, it was time for the DBM. The first light coat.

Followed by 3 even coats....

Then while still tacky, I applied the clearcoat.

This was after 3 more coats...not too bad, the colour may not match perfectly as it's out of a can, but it should be close enough.

Then on to the car....colour match is good enough.

Well thats another little detail sorted...for now!
