Changing actuator without removing turbo? Any tips?
Nebnej:
Hi All,
Firstly, I'll admit it, this isn't a MK5 Gti but an equivalent with the BWA engine, I'm hopeful someone has carried this job out can assist.
The actuator arm on my turbo has somehow snapped leaving me with no boost. I'd rather replace it with a standard item (although I haven't found a supplier yet)
Is this possible without removing the turbo? What parts do I need to remove to gain access? Is it possible on a set of ramps? As per title any tips or advice on this is appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Yes you can replace the actuator without removing the turbo but space is very tight and you sometimes have to feel your way about as you can't see what you're doing. It a 2 hr plus job and you'll more than likely get cramp in your fingers.
Just a heads up, a forge actuator is physically smaller and easier to install than the oem one with the turbo in car.
Try Alex at AKS tuning for an oem actuator.
There was a guide on an American forum but the needed pics are no longer showing :sad1:

Thanks Gents, looks like it could be a complete PITA, but not as bad removing the whole turbo.
olethalb - I will get back to you ref actuator. Is there a link to it on ebay, I've had a look but can't see it?
