Steering wheel buttons on a racek0r wheel
« on: July 21, 2015, 02:32:55 pm »
I want something like this

But I do not want to sacrifice my MFSW.
I have a Mk6 platform Scirocco with cruise and all the audio buttons you get on a Mk6 GTI wheel .
I was thinking about simply removing the old buttons from their housing and wiring them up to the wheel with little buttons instead of the huge ones but then I remembered that the steering wheel buttons are ran on the same wiring as the airbag loom etc? So if I was to remove the factory wheel I couldn't run the wires along the boss to the new wheel?
Can someone possibly shed some insight into this.

Anything is possible... its just wether you have the patience to f about with it for hours making it work.

It would be cool to have "track car" style buttons.

I just need skip track/volume and the buttons on the wheel for scrolling through the MFD (no wiper stalk control)
I was thinking running the existing wires through the boss and mounting them on the new wheel, with small contact switches instead of the bigger user friendly buttons.

but my head is telling me that that won't work at all as it needs the slip ring / airbag loom to run the wiring. :(

I think it would be dead tricky due to the canbus signals.  @Eddie-NL  would have a good idea.
