Title: Candy White Mk5 5dr DSG - NOW SOLD
Post by: shoaybmakda on April 16, 2015, 07:11:57 pm
hi all

just joined up yesterday and thought id better get some pics uploaded.

been driving diesels for that past 6 years and always wanted a mk5 gti and finally got my hands on one and what a car it is  :happy2:

purchased a candy white mk5 5 door DSG with the following add ons (not sure what from this is standard!!):

xenon headlights
electric sunroof
heated folding mirrors
18" monzas
cloth interior
cruise control
auto headlights
auto dimming rear view mirror
multi functional steering wheel
electric drivers seat
Rear parking sensors

picked up the car from cumbria and was used by a gent for the motorway. although he was based local to me he often spent time in cumbria and as you can tell by the pics when i got the car - it was obvious it didnt get alot of attention cleaning wise!

the worst part!

as you can imagine first thing i did was to get those wheels up to scratch once i got the car back home. the centre caps were missing too so sourced some off ebay which did the trick

heres what the car looked like once i got the wheels done:

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fag131%2Fshoaybmak%2FIMG_1739_zps69rkhtzw.jpg&hash=8f00d76ae3e622fd72f1cf0ef921d23753de7643)

a closer look at the wheels (plus some tyre painting i did) calipers were also looking shocking but the wheels were my priority!!

didnt manage to get too much done once the wheels got sorted as been busy away but heres some more pics ive taken during washes:

having a bit of fun on photoshop:

and finally one of me and the mrs (just the cars!!) ahhhhhhh!

Nice job on those wheels!  :happy2:
Do u plan some mods or you'll leave the car stock? What are the plans for the future?

Thanks! Went for the black inserts as I think they look much better than the grey.

Have some plans now I've got some time. minor changes at the moment but I'm being patient with the upgrades as I love this car too much to do half jobs!!

Getting the calipers sorted this weekend and fitted some LED number plate bulbs last night. Ordered a seat lift wrench insert last night.

Ideally I want to get the car colour coded the black bits for me just don't cut it. Been trying to get my local bodywork shop to paint the bits but he's quoted me £450 as it takes a lot of work to flatten the parts down. So might have to go down the route of ED30 rear bumper and skirts and front lip

Missed some R32 rear lights last week still kicking myself over those!!

Nice car mate! :happy2: Seems identical spec to mine. I have a 07 plate too (Reflex Silver) with an AXX Engine

Looks smart, Candy White MK5 GTIs are quite rare. Sounds like it might have originally been imported from UAE hence the slightly different spec and AXX engine since it would be 2005 build.

Yep - when I picked the car up my insurance company couldn't get any info off the reg number. Even had difficulty getting a HPi check done and found that the car was from Dubai and was imported into the UK.

Are there many of these imports around? I'm assuming they don't make much of a difference in terms of performance etc?

Don't have an exact number but back in 2007 quite a lot of them got brought over by the likes of Motorpoint etc. At the time some people had concerns over the fact they'd been sitting un-used for a couple of years, but now they are getting older shouldn't really make any difference! Only thing to watch for on insurance is if I remember right these imports didn't have alarms fitted unlike a UK GTI.

ah i see - lucky for me the previous owner it seems had one fittted so im okay on that front! yes motorpoint brought mine over too as you can tell by the number plate. having all the extras fitted to it made me go for it along with it being white. now just to get the annoying black bumper/skirts painted!

so a small update to report:

managed to get round to doing a couple of bits to the golf. my mirror switch was beginning to bug me. it had started to get 'bubbled' up and the paint was ready to flake off on it. thought it would be difficult to find a replacement due to having folding heated mirrors but thankfully managed to get one from @homesqueeze (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=5508) . arrived a couple of days ago and took best part of 5 mins to fit - perfect!

heres the old switch:

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fag131%2Fshoaybmak%2FIMG_3889_zpss9tgtbfp.jpg&hash=aeb39aead0039d50e4c7a3d63b09fc5a3d681c9a)

heres the new one fitted:

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fag131%2Fshoaybmak%2FIMG_3890_zpsui3nmebx.jpg&hash=4ae73ed077075af9d0601a3169524060caf2731a)

finally also got my calipers sanded down and painted. but the bad news is whilst rushing home on sunday to watch the man utd match vs everton, i caught my drivers side wheel on a kerb whilst rushing to park and as you can imaging i wasnt pleased! (didn't help either that united ended up loosing 3-0!)

picture of caliper and newly cut monzas below:

Being depressed about this all weekend today i thought id do something about it (bit late i know!) so i went and picked up some R32/Edition 30 rear lights from @Wash (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=10761) . got them home and fitted them straight away. the lighting wasn't the best as i was doing it just as the sun was setting. results are below:

nearside body light fitted:

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fag131%2Fshoaybmak%2FIMG_3907_zpss0zunqyi.jpg&hash=679261070cc086bfa91b3f69cc36adbecd5b868f)

close up of the difference in colour:

nearside body and boot light fitted:

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fag131%2Fshoaybmak%2FIMG_3908_zpsslkjj8ua.jpg&hash=1bce17cbe9c4b08d214525aa1bed75ff32f693d8)

end result just as it was beginning to get dark:

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fag131%2Fshoaybmak%2FIMG_3910_zpswbbedlgy.jpg&hash=baf9018c39bbbeef7617f8f8f1f4d312826f8996)

pretty chuffed with the lights and i feel look great and really set the car off.

not satisfied with my little splurge on the car, i have now just purchased a OEM ED30 rear valance, gti passenger seat handle emblem and a mk6 rear boot badge to get rid of the white worm infected one i currently have. will post more pics once all these bits arrive and are fitted. can't wait!!

right bit of an update to go through (with a couple of ups and downs included!)

start with the negative and get it out the way. couple of weeks ago, some idiot decided for no apparent reason just to break my passenger side mirror and smash the indicator lens in the process. i didn't catch the idiot (if only i could! :fighting:) but i was out at the time and the car was parked at home. ruined my night out when i got a call off my sister to say my mirror was broken. the passenger side was facing the pavement so can only imagine it was some kids or someone who had one too many drinks and decided to take it out on my wing mirror.

From what i imagined it wasn't as bad as the casing was broken and the indicator lens but the actual mirror itself was ok and the puddle lights and folding functions still worked. (in my panic on my way home i even found another set of candy white heated mirrors with the folding option with puddle lights for £120 on eBay - the things we do!). anyway see pics below of the damage.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fag131%2Fshoaybmak%2FIMG_3972_zpsqg3qc2dw.jpg&hash=aa33986627066bce9db03b2de9714833e8f675e0)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fag131%2Fshoaybmak%2FIMG_3973_zpsu0p3rljt.jpg&hash=34ca76055e2e7b414bc01178b48aedbc499537b6)

rang the local police and was told usual nothing can do as no CCTV or witnesses but thought i would let them know anyway. found an indicator lens on eBay and had it delivered a couple of days later. as for the crack in the casing i glued it back and touched in the crack with some touch up paint from VW.

old lens:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fag131%2Fshoaybmak%2FIMG_4045_zps5bzfjbey.jpg&hash=8377e4379055add21c68ef3bf8763cb6f675a4bf)

new lens fitted:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fag131%2Fshoaybmak%2FIMG_4044_zpsuqwl5wse.jpg&hash=dd573685ad3cda12816c1312c293a0e0e0a54fb0)

while this was going on i picked up these from VW as they needed doing. i didn't get a shot of my DV when i took it off but it was quite worn with one tear.  The PCV also removed my idling issue that was ongoing:

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fag131%2Fshoaybmak%2FIMG_3883_zps3tfh7p2l.jpg&hash=581a674fb761c91c04a34ec7b26b906608ea5e73)

as some of you may have noticed in my previous post my rear badge was quite worn. although i love the soft close of the MK5 rear badge the white worm really annoyed me. so i decided to upgrade the old badge to the MK6 badge and i think it looks quite nice (even though it comes close to trapping your finger!)

old badge:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fag131%2Fshoaybmak%2FIMG_3974_zpssuqluhyf.jpg&hash=44ec44ebefde6ea5e1a5318fef87d799b3f772fb)

new badge:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fag131%2Fshoaybmak%2FIMG_3975_zpsycialyih.jpg&hash=855f9faf9e229ee123962a0431724396eb564628)

along with this i managed to get a free polo ariel and replaced the mk5 ariel (even though my mrs says it looks like a tellytubby...what does she know!) - excuse the polish marks on the ariel base!

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fag131%2Fshoaybmak%2FIMG_4062_zpsy6lrwbay.jpg&hash=c4860fe7dc56cc42a2a716e694aacd666090d3a9)

also sourced a gti insert from china for a nice price of £5. can only use the passenger side one however as my drivers side has an electric seat! (drivers side is available if anyone wants one!)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fag131%2Fshoaybmak%2FIMG_4111_zpsk98t5zxc.jpg&hash=289ed7cabb7779ea2737ab5a57d8791cb6eeedcd)

at the same time i ordered some LED rear number plate lights. they have a slight blue hint to them but i don't think they look too bad. when i get some more cash together i will probably by the entire replacement unit:

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fag131%2Fshoaybmak%2FIMG_3891_zpse041mqfn.jpg&hash=2c7ab7dc939d46ffee933a644d9612fb1d8fe9bf)

now as a 30th birthday present to myself (if anyone wants to send belated birthday contributions your more than welcome - paypal accepted! :happy2:) i decided to take the plunge and buy myself a ED30 rear bumper and front splitter and get it all colour coded up. i managed to find a OEM ED30 from eBay for a decent price of £130 delivered. it came in red and the seller had used some fibreglass to repair some of the cracks that were in the bumper. with others going for around the £200 mark that i could find i decided to go for this:

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fag131%2Fshoaybmak%2FIMG_3957_zpst8wz8ugz.jpg&hash=774f40dab1c16aac173955abdab84447f7342633)

the ED30 front splitter was more difficult to find and after going through a few avenues and checking the breakers, i went for a non OEM one off eBay. it came from poland was packaged fine.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fag131%2Fshoaybmak%2FIMG_4099_zpskyblzofv.jpg&hash=10ca81af842ba0e3fffffdffca9bf3ad660a774a)

Dropped the car off to the bodyshop on monday and collected the car yesterday PM. I'm not sure if the guy at the bodyshop was having a bad week or what but he completely refused to fit the front splitter because the clips wouldn't sit right in the grooves of the old gti splitter and advised me to return it. so i told him to leave it in the car and would return it when i picked the car up (to be honest i was surprised he was open on bank holiday monday and was happy to take the car in in the first place). to my surprise when i picked up the car yesterday he had fitted the front splitter on and it looked great in my opinion (i think he then realised that he just needed to unscrew a few screws and unclip the old splitter to fit the new on one - but the moody git didn't eat humble pie!). in total he charged £450 to paint the rear bumper and rear valance, smooth and paint the side skirts and paint the front splitter (not sure if thats over the odds but he does a good job to be fair). anyway i have taken a couple of quick snaps with my iPhone of the end result below. will update more pics once the weather opens up (looks like its raining all day today in leicester  :sad1: )

Thanks mate just given it a bit of a inspection and have to say it does fit pretty well. I offered the seller £70 and they accepted my offer so you could try less and see if you can get it any cheaper  :happy2:

I'm just near Victoria park. I used one off evington valley road and he did a good job. Which one did you visit? It's hard to find good bodyshops a lot of them can't colour match that well

Sorry to know about the broken side mirror, though. Some people would need to jailed for a while since they're just beasts. :fighting:

Thanks for the kind words much appreciated!

Yeah it was really annoying but you can't stop idiots I guess?

Loving your mk5 @Shoduchi (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=10590) I almost went for the same look as yours after I saw the black splitter painted but decided to stay colour coded

Thank you for your kind words as well! You can always wrap or paint with Plasti Dip later if you get tired of the OEM look.

I like the OEM look, but I prefer to have a bit more contrast (I painted my GT Sport like that but I already bought the Eddie like it is).

That's what I thought I've got the white as the base paint and I can always plasti dip it black if I fancy a chance and it wouldn't cost a lot to get it done

Just wanted to say I think your car looks fantastic now you've colour coded the bumpers. We also have a candy white five door and i've been thinking about doing this to ours for months but the local body shop told me the paint wont take to the plastic very well so it put me off. We also had the wheels diamond cut refurbed last week with black inserts and it looks the nuts although i've spent the whole weekend parking about a foot away from any curbs as it would brak my heart if I damaged them so soon after getting them repaired. Excellent work with your car though mate  Are you thinking about lowering it at all or are you gonna keep it standard ? :happy2:

Crude plastic has to be sanded and painted with a primer paint. Only after that it can be painted with a normal paint. It will last just like the rest of the painted body parts.

Thanks for the kind words much appreciated! Parking a foot away was what I used to do until in my rush I kerbed my drives side front wheel

That's what my body shop originally told me but he did say it would need a lot of work sanding it down and painting it. I managed to get the rear bumper and front splitter at a reasonable price so was lucky but was hunting for ages!

I gave it a wash yesterday with the jet wash and no paint came off which was a good sign of course! Also have now just driven from Leicester to Eastbourne and everything still looks intact.it makes such a difference I would recommend it no end!

I would like to lower it and start doing some performance work on it next. But after spending a fair bit on the paint etc I'm going to be saving up some money first! A remap is what i would really like to do after lowering it. I have a smoothed grill on its way so something to do this weekend and changing the cam follower

quite a result today - rang VW up a couple of weeks ago to ask about the rust appearing on my arches and around the boot handle. guy on the phone said won't be covered but to bring the car in and to speak to the bodyshop manager to inspect. took the car in today expecting a rejection and bodyshop manager had a look and spoke to the warranty company. offered to replace the front two wings and rear boot free of charge! chuffed to bits and restored a bit of faith with the main dealers  :happy2:

will be booking the car in in a couple of weeks time to get the work done

Small update - things have been a bit slow at the moment. Funds are being taken up for a holiday I've just booked but managed to get a couple of things done. Managed to finally get my cam follower done. After attempting to do it 10 times myself (no exaggeration!) that banjo bolt got the better of me. @z00bz (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=9237) got me in touch with the guy who did his and we got it changed. Turns out my banjo bolt is completely knackered and the threads are chewed up. Let's hope my HPFP dosnt need changing any time soon!

The dreaded banjo bolt:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fshoaybmak%2FMobile_Uploads%2Fimage_zps86lr5wne.jpg&hash=b51b62b5ecce414872c0ac36377b1a74a86d30b5)

Cam follower now replaced at 116k. No records of it being done previously so glad I got it done although it dosnt look completely knackered, the silver was starting to come through:

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fshoaybmak%2FMobile_Uploads%2Fimage_zpsswpuflyv.jpg&hash=85a8761041b3ad7cabb93fb2eddd5820ccd159d4)

Also ordered a cherry red hazard switch off a seller in China via eBay. Delivery was really speedy came within a couple of days. Better than some UK sellers!

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fshoaybmak%2FMobile_Uploads%2Fimage_zpspyhtoh1r.jpg&hash=1450d583d6e5983b6bb4025c1ca474c0e4e2fcda)

Have a few more things planned but will probably be a couple of months before I get it all done...but no doubt the temptation will get the better of me and I will order more parts!

Ah mate....glad you got it all sorted!! From what I can remember they guy had a spare banjo which is the 1 he dropped of mine in the engine bay lol found it after purchasing a new 1 for me from TPS lol so he decided to keep that banjo as spare!!!

I'm watching a cherry red hazard switch on the bay from China but wasn't sure as I thort it may take a while to get to me...... Might just get 1 ordered if it only takes a couple of days

I couldn't get the bolt unscrewed so went down the route of loosening the fuel lines and carefully pulling away the HPFP. It is irritating me however knowing that there is a chewed up screw that I may not be able to get off

Yeah he mentioned he did but we didn't end up going down the banjo route in the end and we prized away the HPFP.

The cherry one I ordered came in about 5 days I think. Email said could take a month but came pretty quick. Here's the one I bought:

Title: Re: Candy White Mk5 5dr DSG - Cam Follower Changed
Post by: shoaybmakda on October 15, 2015, 06:54:25 pm
small update been busy with a couple of things since my last post on my build thread. the biggest thing was a couple of months back managed to get my front two arches, sills and boot handle all replaced for free under VW warranty! it was bugging me that i noticed the rust appearing and i was going to get it all done at the same time i did my bumpers but i came across the thread on here about warranty success on this and thought whats the worst that could happen?

So popped into Leicester VW (after my initial phone call to them to say i had rust appearing) and had spoke to the bodyshop manager. He noticed that the bubbling was appearing on the drivers arch as well as the passenger (i had only noticed the passengers side) and the rust on the boot was the worst. i tried my own attempt to touch it in with the touch up pen from VW but was still bugging me. Initially i was offered two front wings for free and 50% contribution on the rear boot which was going to work out about £300 for me to pay. Just i was about to pass on the boot and accept the wings, he looked at my service history and said seeing as you have had the car serviced with us all its life well cover the boot too. RESULT!

so dropped my car off to VW a couple of weeks later and had a polo to drive for the week (so glad i didn't get a up!)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fshoaybmak%2FMobile_Uploads%2Fimage_zpsq7hn67ru.jpeg&hash=1f738dd3e26a34e4dba98be874b88605f7479ca2)

Picked my car up a week later and they did a fantastic job and i must admit i was beginning to loose faith in the dealership but i can't praise them enough for this. Unfortunately i didn't get a picture of the wings but i managed to get some before and after of the rust.

Before (boot looks a different shade of white here - most probably the lighting!):
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fshoaybmak%2FMobile_Uploads%2Fimage_zpschflhdxk.jpeg&hash=e38f84f03416e23d15bf7b703bda82c83eff7741)

After:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fshoaybmak%2FMobile_Uploads%2FA9CDA548-5C07-4499-879D-71C83ED90A5E_zpsu9m4in3k.jpg&hash=d7642a0999054cff9a16b25f0ccec12470e7333d)

They gave it a basic clean so i gave it another wash once it stopped raining and for me that was the last i was going to tamper with the car....

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fshoaybmak%2FMobile_Uploads%2Fimage_zpsgmxkzpwt.jpeg&hash=c26567d4a1d09938c3ff89cdc172631e2595241c)

Now I'm sure many of you can relate just when you think enough is enough, you end up finding one or two bits and then carrying on tampering. Well yes thats happened to me too...  :stupid:

I loved my monzas and i really loved the way they looked on my Golf. But the kerbing was beginning to bug me. and although i could live with it i just knew eventually i would want to change. Well that happened sooner rather than later and after speaking with @rashg60 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=11930) about wheels, he managed to (somehow) persuade me to part with my monzas a little earlier than i wanted!

So with the monzas ready to go i needed to find some new wheels. and thought well I've got the ED30 look going on why not get some pescaras to go with. and managed to bag some unmarked beauties for a decent price and when they were delivered although i was still upset at letting the monzas go, i was warming more to the Pescaras.

Delivery:

Fitted:

took me a few days to warm to them but although i do partially still miss my monzas i have taken a liking to the pescaras.

The devil often makes works for idle hands, and my hands get twitching when i see something i like on this forum. and on a road trip up north, i somehow managed to bag a highland cluster from @v4rley (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=6697) (top service and very helpful guy). Couple of days later i also ended up buying an MFD2 as i had gotten a bit bored of the RCD300 (non-mp3) head unit (ideally would love to go down the RNS route but i couldn't justify spending the extra on a canbus change and for a sat nav i won't use as much - and the MFD2 would just do the job in looking pretty!)

So fitted the head unit and got in touch with @RetroRaz (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=6494) in the process of when i bought the highline cluster and raz true to his word turned up a couple of weeks later on his travels and fitted and coded up the highline cluster to my car along with a couple of other bits like his flash to pass mod. (again brilliant service from raz and cannot recommend highly enough!)

MFD2:

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fshoaybmak%2FMobile_Uploads%2F4CA5851D-13C2-4DC4-A8A2-341555B2CF26_zpsnrmpztpw.jpg&hash=d82f9b0884ae3eee861f1dbee3f4d962581e421b)

Highline:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fshoaybmak%2FMobile_Uploads%2FD589C4F7-681B-45B8-805F-7EBFEB83B96B_zps1ewyv5ge.jpg&hash=782cea90596fb78d07621ef0be6f19d23a7c33f6)

i must admit i am very impressed with the highline mod and would recommend it as an upgrade to everyone. I'm probably not even using it to its full potential but from what i need it definitely delivers.

As usual comments welcome!  :happy2:

After reading your latest thread, I really thought for a moment that you had bought another set of Monza's!

Anyway, don't worry, I am looking after your old Monza's and they look stunning on my car - really set it off with the red/black look and I don't think I will ever change them.

Mind you, when I say looking after, something did happen (no faulty of mine). I was fitting them at my uncle's (a few doors down from my house) and he had one of his dopey mates round. Anyway, I was pushing the wheels across and the 'dopey friend' offered to help. I wanted to say 'no thanks' but out of politeness said 'yes' (which I regret to this day). The stupid dopey %^&%$£$$%% dropped one of the wheels! I was soooooo pi$$ed off. Luckily it was the kerbed one, which I'm gonna have to get sorted anyway. If it was one of the others I would have flipped.

@rashg60 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=11930) hopefully not too bad that it makes it even worse! I've looked all over the place for the guy who refurbed them but I can't seem to locate his details.

Ive just read through the whole thread, very interesting read with some really nice changes which have definitely transformed the car.
Almost makes me want to spend more money on my GT sport, but I'm holding out for either a ED30 or Pirelli later this year.

not done many changes since my last post apart from a couple of tweaks here and there.

after i got the car looking how i wanted it, i wanted to do some performance mods to it. managed to come across this on eBay for a fairly decent price:

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fshoaybmak%2FMobile_Uploads%2F351716E4-AD27-4192-A761-AF799973CE89_zps95591yl3.jpg&hash=264283bb54b6d974057b859416bb80f500121dc2)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fshoaybmak%2FMobile_Uploads%2FBFB59881-EBF3-4B8F-B71D-14B8EE4AF043_zpslor78vg5.jpg&hash=1753987881ecaec59374329399013682615f8596)

after fitting it i thought it was a little loud - but then i remembered the mrs drives my car too and she would absolutely hate it. so i had to take it out and sell it and return to stock. it did feel like the car was running better but i knew eventually all the whooshing would annoy me too and needed something a bit more subtle.

as per previous posts, i updated the RCD300 to the MFD2 and although it was a great unit, i didn't feel like i was getting the most out of the highline display and the lack of touch screen was beginning to get on my nerves. so i managed to bag a RNS510 off here and its a much better unit to use (after i had a small battle getting it to calibrate!).

i also ordered a MDI dock off eBay and found a seller in poland selling the wiring separately for a very good price (MDI and loom total cost me £55) but wasn't delivered the same time as the RNS510 so in my excitement i went and installed the unit and then had to re-do it all again once the MDI was delivered!

Round 1:

also managed to pick up some mats for the car to replace my old ones which had a fair bit of use it seems from the heel

today was cleaning day as we actually had a stoppage in rain. so out came the polish after a quick wash. managed to have a bit of a go at my exhaust tips (completely forgot to get a before pic but imagine these but completely black!) - I'm still not happy with this result but its much better than how it was before:

You're a brave man taking it apart so many times. I find that the plastic clips break too easily. But it's looking great now  :happy2:

Have you got a link to the eBay seller in Poland?

Small update

So after deciding to sell my car and then not selling due to a fair few time wasters, I decided to keep the car. And to celebrate - treated myself to a catback milltek exhaust purchased from @Deano45 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=12004) (excellent service provided). Also bought a replacement downpipe from @v4rley (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=6697) and along with it got a LED reversing bulb (again excellent service and bulb works fantastically well)

So after speaking with my brother in law @Gtiene (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=15282) we set to work one Saturday afternoon and decided to fit the exhaust ourselves. First job was to do a precat delete on the downpipe. Fairly simple job once you have the downpipe off -

Took us in total about 4 hours once we manages to get everything off and the new bits onto the car. Our mechanic skills are nothing spectacular but for a pair of novices we did pretty well! (We were lucky my brother has a ramp so didn't have to use axel stands or jacks!)

Old exhaust off:

I went for the non resonated version and I'm loving it (anyone considering a resonated versiondon't bother the non-resonated version is a must!)

Also had these delivered today from @toosmiles (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=8438) - a shiney Porsche oil cap and black fluid washer caps to freshen up under the bonnet a little:

I didn't want an intake based on the noise levels it creates. The whooshing noises just sent for me although in the (distant) future I would consider a VWR intake as I'm led to believe they are much quieter. I don't plan on going crazy numbers but stage 1 is on my mind.

Thanks to @Dave J (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=6566) for the speedy delivery and @bonelorry (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=7168) for his time and advice.

Next plan fingers crossed is the pilgrimage to RTech for a stage 1 map!   :happy2:

You're welcome, & good to read this update! Glad to hear you're happy with the VWR filter. I bought it thinking I wouldn't want an intake kit, and then I watched Youtube...
You'll be over the moon with a Stage 1 remap - I can't believe I didn't have one sooner on mine...

Cheers @Dave J (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=6566)

Stage 1 is on the list not helpful though that rtech have put their prices up just as I was gearing up towards it!

Only concerned though I've noticed people get wheel spin when going on to stage 1. I was keen to avoid this - is it possible?

Thanks @MIJ_JAGGER (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=16715) springs have taken a bit of a backseat for now. Rear calipers have seized so sorting my brakes out first and hopefully soon.

Still got this to fit on the rear:

Small update to report: just had a major service done this week. 128k and still going strong!  :happy2:

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fshoaybmak%2FMobile_Uploads%2F17F53E1B-1CF3-4E39-BBDC-B3E212088868_zpsrou8eunz.jpg&hash=1ff9996a939b3a24a26dfa94981919e82678c62f)

As per the above, finally got round to fitting my red rear boot badge with the help of @Gtiene (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=15282) here is a pre pic (the i had fallen off somehow!). This was done very simply using a hair dryer, a a thread and some WD40 - was amazing seeing it come off so easily.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fshoaybmak%2FMobile_Uploads%2F23E264CC-8425-439A-98CF-02846CBA1691_zpsvmbjxsx8.jpg&hash=5523b462b0764dd61f3406759e3b5d1530843da5)

And here is a post pic once fitted:

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fshoaybmak%2FMobile_Uploads%2F0807B8E8-B1F2-49A8-9450-0EB1F347FC4D_zps4gjaf2yo.jpg&hash=b8fca27ba59891ec7e1fdffb0c5e6096b43587eb)

Also picked up a VWR Intake this week from @Lewo (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=14490) (top guy very helpful and kept me informed every step of the way).

Again with @Gtiene (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=15282) being the master technician, we managed to get it fitted this afternoon. The pipe that leads off the engine cover was a pain to get off and in our desperation had to give @RetroRaz (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=6494) a call just to give us some guidance!

Elbow grease and some WD40 did the trick and we finally had it all off and fitted. Excuse the dirty engine bay - anyone recommend any products to clean it up?

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fshoaybmak%2FMobile_Uploads%2FC861E1B0-C5A3-42AA-9F11-8374C3993C42_zps61lgrd1g.jpg&hash=1a568c63c6b2638319d127afd33268ada9a02a52)

Big thanks to @Gtiene (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=15282) for his time and help with fitting. Couldn't have done it without him!

And sick Mk6 flat bottoms wheels do feel uuuuuber nice. Had one retrofitted to my sisters Mk6 1.6tdi and it just made it feel sportier haha, felt it made handling easier and more enjoyable  . I'd love one on mine

What you'll have to do is copy the image link. And put these between the image link.

Sold my MK5 GTi over the weekend - was a sad and painful day as it was by far the best car I've ever owned. Part of me still regrets it till now. Hope the new owner looks after it

Not sure what's next on the cards maybe something cheap and cheerful for now so I can save up for an S3 or possibly MK6 R.

Thanks to everyone on for the forum for their help and advice. Biggest thanks to @RetroRaz (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=6494) Who has helped me no end on questions I've had and always given good advice for retrofitting queries and fitting.
