Anyone going along? Only going for the sunday this year, went for the whole weekend last year but times are hard! Havnt heard what the weathers like but as long as it doesnt rain should be alright.
-
The father in law will be as he is a race marshall, on flags at position 5, shame i cant make it, get offered tickets all the time. Have fun :happy2:
-
Id love to. Used to go for the BTCC when I lived in Rochester.
vRS Pagey & RichWig are going :happy2:
-
Im not going this weekend but will be a Donnington
-
Im not going this weekend but will be a Donnington
Next weekend innit?
-
14th/15th april
-
Should be good. Normaly go to Thruxton meet as its only hour bit away. Good to go to the first weekend, see the new cars in action.
-
nope but i will be watching it on ITV4. Not sure why they are bothering with a manufacturers championship seeing as though its a two horse race and one of those is a bit of a stallion (Honda) and the other is a 1 legged donkey rejected by Blackpool beach (MG far east) which may not even be race ready for this weekend...
Looking forward to hearing Toby Moody commentating, he can be a bit of a div at times granted but i actually like his commentary.
-
IM probably going to give this a miss now, unless the petrol stations near me manage to keep decent stock!
-
Triple 8 were still getting bits delivered to the circuit yesterday so they could finish building the MGs! Not the best of starts! Filled up my tank this morning ready for sunday. Just got to try and not use too much!
-
B******stard. Not at home and forgot to set it to record
-
B******stard. Not at home and forgot to set it to record
IPOD app or go onto your sky.com account and set it that way :happy2:

***Spoilers for +1 viewers!***
Jackson in the AMD MK5 on pole for next race having been pulled out the hat :drinking:
Could be interesting to see how it starts.
Finished 8th in the last one, decent enough drive
-
Plato was very naughty in the first race :surprised:
-
^^^^
Plato is always naughty.
I wonder how long the AmD Golf will hang onto first place! I'm not holding my breath but nonetheless wish the team well.

About 4.5 seconds :signLOL:
-
Shame for news ham, ambitious of Plato
-
If theres a Gap platos gonna try filling it, I think the gap was there but it was a shame for newsham
-
So hands up who said the MG was going to be rubbish then.... :signLOL:
-

About 4.5 seconds :signLOL:
Such a sluggish start. Argh well, that oil was waiting for many of them anyway...
-
So hands up who said the MG was going to be rubbish then.... :signLOL:
Ahem that would be FRENZY :signLOL:
-
:ashamed: yep that told me :signLOL: still think they should scrap the manufacturers championship if there are less than 3 teams in it - just make them all independents :happy2:
The lads who went to watch must have had a cracking day's entertainment, hopefully theyll have some pictures to post up
Performance
MG - Amazed by how well Triple 8 have put this car together, it really was an eleventh hour job so to get a win and a podium is a real dream start. Have the best driver in the business and the worst livery in the field  seriously i don't think the MG is anything to go by looks wise but i can't really tell what it looks like from that 'race trim'
Honda - decent but not driving away with it as i thought they might. In race trim it doesn't half look like a(n unnecessary) lard arse from the back :P
The rest - AMD Golf has improved tenfold over last season and should score reasonable points this season, the Vectra of Newsham had impressed in the timing run at silverstone and obviously in qualifying and performed well in the final race, shame Plato robbed him of his race in the first round. Rob Austin's A4 ran well as well. Surprised Wrathall's Avensis didn't run better after last season's showing
Drivers
Plato - kudos to the guy for winning a race but boy he's dirty. And he plays the game so much in the interviews, if he had done to him what he did to Newsham he would have been raging
Neal - Solid enough performance
Sheddon - great comeback in the last race, showed great character to persevere and not let his head go down after the car let him and the team down badly
Newsham - felt sorry for the bloke but got his reward in the final round with a podium finish
Jordan - looking good, if they can keep developing the car he'll be there or there abouts come the fat lady's warbbles
Collard - good start but then went backwards, will have come away scratching his head a bit as the Bimmer is supposed to come into its own towards the end of races, having said that i don't think Brands indy is the most demanding of circuits on tyres so maybe RWD will show stronger at other tracks with higher speed corners and more demanding braking
ITV - i thought their coverage of the BTCC, as ever, was cracking. Toby Moody was better than Ben Edwards imo and gelled ever so well with Tim Harvey. I think ITV's coverage of BTCC is superior to Sky F1's coverage of F1 (and i'm not saying that Sky F1 is bad, however i'm in no way saying ITV's coverage of F1 was good, it wasn't, it was dire and i rejoiced the day it went back to the beeb). Was top to see Paul O'Neil interviewed as well - hope some sponsor(s) can come through so they can get the cars out of the garage and on the track where they and O'Neil belong :drinking:
Roll on Donnie
-
P.S look out for my tip for the national, a former 3 legged donkey from Blackpool beach, now down to 2 legs:
:signLOL:
-
Bless. Wasn't particularly having a pop mate. The MG's are a real surprise but look sh*te.
Here's hoping the Beemers come good at the other circuits. :happy2:
-
Ah no worries Hedge, i was asking for it  If you make such bold statements and are willing to roll in the clover when they pay off you have to be equally willing to roll in the turd when you get it wrong along with the helping of egg on yer face!
I honestly was expecting the MGs to be mid-pack if they actually made it to the end. I too hope the beemers improve because after the first race they seemed to be lacking a certain something - maybe they don't cope well with ballast...?
-
Well next time I see Rob in Waitrose I shall ask him.
-
:driver:
-
:happy2:
-
To be honest, with Triple 8 runnung the MGs, they were never going to be that bad. Triple 8 know how to build a good touring car (Vauxall atras anyone!?!) so not a massive suprise. Think you got to take their pace as somewhere between Plato and Neate. Plato out performed the car and Neates just never been the same since his huge Britcar/TVR crash few years back.
-
I was there and I can confirm it was awesome....... :happy2:
-

And as well as Donnington BTCC there's Chinese F1 full coverage on BBC this weekend 15th April. :happy2:
-
6am sat.....
7am sun.....
Can't wait to see if the lads are all wearing jeans with a tucked in shirts and a nice belt....??
-
Anyone else going to Donington this weekend? I can't wait I'm going down Saturday and Sunday :jumpmove:
-
As if there wasnt enough moaning about boost levels last year, they're at it again already! Matt Neal's turn to say they're too slow on the straights. Got to love it!
-
I should be at donning ton providing the weather is ok. :happy2:
-
I've won two tickets for the whole weekend so I'll be there, not sure who I'm taking yet though ...
-
I'll be an Donington on Sunday. BBC's website says the weather is going to be pretty good too :happy2:
-
I'm there all weekend stopping in a hotel at east midlands airport
-
I should be at donning ton providing the weather is ok. :happy2:
....So you won't be taking any photos then
-
Bit chilly here but it's dry and the BTCC cars are about to come out for their practice session! :happy2:

Top of craners on the grass bank for practice then moved to old hairpin for quali
The Golf isn't going too well bit off the pace. That MG is bloody loud tho!
-
.
The AmD Golf's engine gave up in the second race so that was the end of their weekend.
What did we think about Plato's driving behaviour in the last chicane of the last race such that he finished in P2 on track? Flash Gordon then finished P3 across the line.
-
6 of one and 1/2 a dozen.... It made for good viewing.
-
I like JP, but thought it was out of order to be fair. He is starting to do it too often for my liking, it is not stock cars...........
-
^^^^
Although JP is a very talented driver indeed I thought it was OTT too. I didn't like the way he tried to blame Sheddon and the fact that he kept his helmet on so long for interview seemed to indicate he feared a very angry Gordon and knew he was in the wrong - Just a vibe I got from his body language.
The ruling body needs to draw the line somewhere otherwise everyone will do it and it won't be a competition for the best driver. Anyone can shove another car from behind - It's not the greatest skill.
-
Plato was clearly quicker on all areas of the track so if the guy in front was determined he wasn't going to get past there was only going to be one outcome.
If it was anyone else who gave Sheddon a 'love tap' it would have passed by virtually unnoticed.
-

That's your opinion, mine is that he does it too often. :happy2:
Edit - Can anyone verify the below? From the Web today........
SunSport columnist Plato crossed the line second but was later hit with a two second penalty and relegated to third by race officials.

....Mine too.
It was just so blatent (again!). But what's done is done and I guess there isn't going to be a Stewards Investigation.
-
Without verifying the data from both cars whats to say Flash didn't brake early??
Agreed Plato does seem to be involved in many 'incidents' of this kind, but thats why I like him, he has an aggressive gung ho racing style and he's always exciting to watch! :happy2:
-
^^^^
True and I think a proper inquiry would clarify matters and help clear the air.
Personally I don't warm to Plato at all but no matter. :happy2:
-
Just got back home from this, what a brilliant day. Weather held out too which was nice. Got an autograph from Ollie Jackson too but was sad the Golf didn't come back out for the second and third races. Now gotta go through 7 hours worth of ITV4 coverage to check if i can see myself and see all the bits i missed
-
Plato is ace. Most entertaining driver by a lon shot in BTCC. Jackson and newsham are also good to watch.
I can see where shedden is coming from, if hes faster then pull alongside, that was a definite 100yard shove, but he was being slowed up for the entire lap...
-
I generally have no problem with Plato but that attack on Sheddon was out of order.
When Plato does it to someone else it's 'rubbing' but when anyone does it him it's out of order and too aggressive.
Sheddon should get Matt Neal to chin him.
-
2 sec penalty for Plato and Jackson disqualified. :surprised:

....I think that's very fair.
-
I agree with Ian on the Plato comment. He likes to rub with other people but goes nuts if people do it to him.
That sounds about right with Jackson. The sudden lead he was managing to pull out was massive, almost as if he had a an overboost button that he pressed to get himself a gap.
I thought Collard had a pretty obvious jump start on the first race, but nothing seem sot have come of it.
-
AmD Golf had a brand new engine fitted overnight but unfortunately the mapping they had for the previous engine wasn't working right so Shaun decided to call it a day after Race 1 to prevent any possible damage to the fresh engine. They're gonna get it mapped properly before Thruxton in 2 weeks time.
As for JP doing his trade mark move once again, you just knew he would "bump" flash off at some point before the end of the race. He is a good driver don't doubt that, but he can be a dirty bugger too when things don't go his way. I clapped (as did a few others) when he went in to the tyres in Race 2 when he tried to squeeze Collard.
I was supporting Frank Wrathall as my employer sponsors the Dynojet team. He was doing some cracking over takes at old hairpin but kept making mistakes and giving places back.
Was a good weekend of entertainment anyway.
But Donny P needs to sort out its on day ticket sales / entry/exit system for race goers. A few almost started fights with the security due to forcing everyone out via 1 little gate before getting to the car park! :fighting:

Again! :signLOL:
-
I'm surprised no one has moaned about the apparent pace of the MG. I wonder if they're running more boost than everyone else cos JP can get that car coming out of corners much faster than others
-
So that makes Plato......................
2nd!
-
I was supporting Frank Wrathall as my employer sponsors the Dynojet team. He was doing some cracking over takes at old hairpin but kept making mistakes and giving places back.
He made some awesome moves today. Slightly all or nothing, but good to watch :driver:

Yup he's a top lad too who believes in clean racing (like his battle with Collard in race 1)
-
funning how flash never made such a fuss last year when his
employer team mate punted him off
-
Would you?
-
I loved the race today and sounds were awesome. I love the wastegate sounds of these turbo BTCC cars lifting off the throttle. No dv on these badboys. Wastegate all the way like I had on my old FRS. It was a shame about Plato in the second race but he made up for it in the last race. I think I was cheering the loudest lol. Next one for me is Oulton Park

Well dunno about the other cars but when I had a nosey at the Pirtek Civic engine bay I think there's a shiny DV on the IC to Manifold Pipe.

-
Sorry, I was more referring to the audible sound they make. No DV noise wooshing away but you could hear the wastegate twittering. Thats proper turbo sound and wish my car did that as standard
-
said it after the brands meet that Plato is a dirty fecker. I cheered when he went off in the 2nd race, the irony was that he was trying to take out collard and ended up coming off worse
doesn't matter if sheddon was being defensive, what else is he supposed to do on the final lap, if Plato is quicker it is his obligation to overtake him if he wants to get by not punt him off from 100 yards back. What a disgrace, 2 sec penalty is not enough, he should have been DQ'd, it wasn't over exuberance it was calculated and appalling in it's complete and utter lack of skill.
Funny thing is that i think Plato is great for the BTCC, brilliant driver when he isn't being dirty and every sport needs a bad guy :rolleye:
-

Exactly what I said earlier to him indoors as he was cussing Plato

I think they should let them run as much boost as they want.

Everyones got different boost levels depending on whos engine they are running. Honda and Pirtec have got the lowest boost because Neil Brown does the best job! So wouldn't surprise if Alan Gow has let the MG have a bit more to make it interesting/close!
-

I dont remember... i probably was too young. :signLOL:
Its a shame about the VW issues, it doesn't seems to have great reliability.
-
wonder if theyve checked the PCV, Coilpacks, DV.......
-
the Golf has been pants from the day it entered the BTCC IMO. Its either far to slow, far to unreliable, or it crashes out. At least Rob Austins A4 is in the middle reaking havoc. Shame hes having engine issues now though as the car seems really strong.
The problem is if your at the back of the field you dont get any air time and end up being a complete unknown with you rname only getting mentioned when you retire. They should just get the NGTC spec car and then its pretty much guaranteed to be semi-competitive as its the same spec as the other cars.
wonder if theyve checked the PCV, Coilpacks, DV.......
Boost leak?
-

Cylinder 3 injector?? :signLOL:
Maybe they had the 'REVO' light on.

When AMD had Onslo-cole in the car it was running alright. They need to get a good/experianced driver in again to get it going in the right direction.

-
He showed some flashes of pace in it. Not front running admittedly but respectable mid field at least. Get the reliability and it wouldnt be too bad.
-
ollie jackson is a decent driver, he showed that at Brands plus he's got a decent CV: http://tinyurl.com/6s5xd24
he just hasn't had the car he needs at donny due to reliability issues.
-
Not saying Ollie is a bad driver, just need someone with more touring car experience.
-
by "experience" i take it you mean the ability to avoid overtaking and the skill to ram your opponents :signLOL:

What we really need now is the Octavia entry to appear and show the way home to the Golf. :innocent:
Actually can't they use the Revo/Skoda land speed record car.
-

....Well yes, the Golf's poor performance has been embarrassing! :ashamed:
-
They just need a decent team who can actually set a car up properly and the golf would be a contender.
-
Glad i didnt go to truxton after watching the racing, would have got soak through! Fastest circuit and plenty of rain made for some good shows of skill. Some good racing specialy form Wrathel. And Plato didnt punt anyone off this time!
-
.
It was good racing on ITV4 from the dry comfort of my sofa!
-
Some great tents with peep holes !!!
Nic Hamilton , crashes again....
-
The clio cup race was carnage. Great viewing
Hats off to Shedden though, crazy how fats and aggressive he was though the corners. Even Plato admitted he couldnt compete with him through the bends
-

Fella was incredible in the rain. The speed in carried through the cornerns :notworthy:.
Really wanted to go but could not get the day off work, rather glad after seeing the conditions on TV.
:happy2:

.
Flash Gordon is my favourite BTCC driver by far. He just seems such a nice sporting chap and is also a top notch racing driver. He very much deserves to win the Championship this year. It pleases me every time I see Plato fail.

+1
I'll always have a tiny bit of a soft spot for Matt Neal because of the days he used to drive his Primera in the independents cup and became the first independent to win a BTCC race against the factory teams. However i don't think he's really any better a driver than Plato and personality wise he's not as engaging as Flash.

Many people going to Oulton park?

Is that this weekend?

Will be there on race day, hopefully in the eddie if the leaky power steering is fixed in time :sad1:
-
I will be there come rain or shine :happy2:
-
I'll be there too with my eddy :D
-
So, did anyone go, only spotted a mk5 R32 in the car park. Had a few people walk past the ED30 and have a good look, some took pics :signLOL: glad i gave it a wash.
I'd parked at the top of the hill near foggerty moss building over looking lakeside/knickerbrook area with the big screen.
Not to self, must take suncream even if it works bad weather!!! :ashamed:
-
We parked up over at knickerbrook side. Sat over there for Race 1 then moved over to the bit behind the VXR lot so we could see the big screen. Yup we got a bit burnt too :signLOL:
That AmD Golf is seriously slow. Our man Frank Wrathall had a weekend to forget I think.

We were sat behind VXR lot for cascades too...we were supporting Frank (we do his website) so was sad to see him have such bad luck in the first 2 races! The golf was so embarrassing, what is wrong with it?! Just doesn't seem competitive at all...
I saw at least 3 R32s and 1 red Ed30 about 5 cars behind us in the queue when we were pulling in. We were in an Ibis White S3 if it was anyone on here!
-
Spotted an DBP R32 just behind the VXR parking area.
Did you guys get blown away by the chopper landing, was funny watching chairs and small tents fly about :signLOL:
-
I said to the other half "what down draft the chopper's doing nothing" then the next second whoosh almost went flying out of my chair! Saved the Pringles tho :signLOL:
Justsean...., were u sat against the helipad fencing??
-
I said to the other half the chopper's doing nothing
Nope I never felt a thing ! :signLOL:
-
must have been a good day out lads, the crowd certainly looked strong and the racing was very entertaining :driver:
-
Justsean...., were u sat against the helipad fencing??
We were about 50 meters down that grass from there! was stood at the helipad fencing when it was taking off! small world eh?
-
See Liam Griffin crashed the Focus again today at Croft :signLOL:
-
Decent racing today :driver: Oneill & Plato had quite a few gremlins
-
Damn! I missed it, I didn't realise they were racing this weekend so I watched the f1 instead :sad1:, I'll have to see if I can catch the highlights but it's never the same as watching it live :fighting2:
-
Highlights on itv4 today at 4.30pm and Saturday at 12.25pm
-
^^^^
I just watched the highlights and it was good exciting racing throughout.
The Golf did better than usual in the first race but then reverted to usual disappointing performance :sad1:
-
Highlights on itv4 today at 4.30pm and Saturday at 12.25pm
Cheers :happy2:
-
Next round not till August is it? :sad1:
-
Yup 6 week break till Snetterton!
-
Looks like a few teams have been getting a bit of practice in over the summer break. Frank Wrathall on pole for tomorrow, nice to see tho Honda's not occupying the front row.

Always go up country to the Snetterton round (daughter lives in Attleborough, I pretend I go to see her for the weekend and leave the misses there and off I go ) but working this weekend. :sad1:
Sky planner is set though. Come on Plato!

You cannot beat watching car racing on the TV.... you miss 98% of the race when your trackside.

Not when you have big track side screens for you to see what is live on telly! :happy2:
There's just something extra when you are there to watch it live!!

Yeah i know what you mean lee... and ive been to plenty. But i always feel you miss things.. unless you are glued to the big screen, and in that case you might as well be at home.
Unless of course youre getting supplied free champagne all day.... :signLOL:

Please don't say the one in the red otherwise you will have killed all my fantasies.

Great set of pics lee, really shows off the 'business' end of things.
I really wish that team Rob Austin had a bit more luck, they seems to be plagued with issues.

....You would most definitely have done better, although I don't recall seeing any people shots by you and only fine birds of the feathered variety. The 'official' togger has given the babe in red a baggy bum! Or was she really like that!
I wish that the Golf would do better - It's almost an embarrassment. This isn't their first season.
Rob Austin seems to be a bit of a rough diamond. If I learnt he was a scrap metal merchant it wouldn't surprise me but I know nothing about him.
I want Gordon Sheddon to win the championship, not for any love of Honda but because I like him and don't warm to Plato.
-
Yeah i think thats what i like about rob austin... hes a bit like Guy Martin just not as successful.
-
Rob Austin did some of the driving and car prep for the upcoming fillum Rush. :happy2:
-
.
Rob Austin is clearly a very talented driver as he has shown when his car has been running well. I reckon he is one to watch but the competition on track is very close amongst the top 10.
-
That Audi is quite fast but some reliability issues still causing problems I think.
The little Golf on the other hand is just too slow against everyone apart from Tony Hughes who is always last anyway.
Can't see them sticking with the VW in 2013 when big majority of the field will be running full NGTC spec cars.
-
But wet at rockingham, next to no visibility with the porsche's atm
-

....I'm thinking the same but the Golf did quite well in Race 2 by finishing 9th and got some TV mention. It's unfortunately not consistent though.
-
.
Golf on front row for reverse grid Race 3.... For how long though? Be nice if they do alright. BTCC means anything can happen!
-
.
Golf finished p8. Good in greasy wet conditions. :congrats: :congrats:
-
Was there today to watch the action in the freezing cold!
After a disastrous race 1 AmD got the little Golf's electrical gremlins sorted and Ollie did a fine job in Race 2 to get P8.
Started on front row in Race 3 but was down to 10th or somewhere by end of first lap!
But did well to stick with Mat Jackson through most the race to finish 8th Again although would have been great if he kept TOC behind him!
Bad day for Frank Wrathall though new engine installed but mapping not quite right it seems.
Off to Silverstone in 2 weeks time then VIP finale at Brands next month with Porsche
Can't wait!
-
.
One of the race commentators said that "the little Golf" was "very popular" amongst BTCC race watchers.
-
The golf is hardly shown in most races as it usually near the back.
-
I was also there in the freezing cold yesterday. Was so pleased to see the golf doing well. First time it's ever actually looked like it's got some decent pace.
-
.
I wonder if the Golf has at last found some pace, although you could see how it couldn't keep up with the 'big boys'. Ollie Jackson drove well and avoided trouble.
But somehow, I doubt if the team will continue next season.

It's an S2000 spec car so can't continue in it's current form next year and the costs/time to convert to NGTC for a team the size of AMD wouldn't make sense IMHO.

....That's exactly what I was thinking too but I didn't know the exact terms as you have posted, Steve. It's a pity but that's how the cookie has crumbled. Fortunately there are other race series for us to enjoy watching VWs competing. :happy2:
-
That is the circuit formation i did a couple of weeks ago. You need some balls of steel and great skills to do what they were doing on the oval section in the rain. :notworthy:
-
Think the S2000 cars with NGTC engines will still be allowed to race next year but the performance gap to the full NGTC cars will be bigger to make everyone switch.
Ollie had some balls I gotta say with the way he hung the little Golf round the high line in turn 1...brave man.
Not so lucky was Jeff Smith who got it wrong and mashed the rear end of the Civic into the wall.
-
You've gotta feel sorry for the teams when they have big accidents like jeff smith it looked like a definate re-shell which must be a big hit for the small teams who don't have a lot of money, when it happens in f1 you never even think about
-
ITV need to sort there coverage out, completely missed Gordon Shedden's tank slapper on turn one which he managed to save, epic car control and would be a worthy champion
-
^^^^
I'm hoping that 'Flash' Gordon wins the championship this year - He's a very good competitor and seems such a nice guy too. I don't care how talented a driver Plato is, I try to like him and then he says something else for me to dislike him again.
-

I'm going to Silverstone this weekend to watch the touring cars. First time I've seen them racing so looking forward to it.
Anyone seen them at Silverstone before? Just wondering what the traffic will be like getting in. I'm guessing it wont be as bad as when the F1 are racing!
-
That Plato is such a dirty dirty driver (punting people out of the way etc)
:driver:
Couldn't believe how many people were cheering fir him though in the stands
-
.
I have to say that irrespective of his driving I really don't like Plato. I want Flash Gordon to win the championship as I think he deserves it and seems a very nice guy too.

Flash is just as dirty as Plato in punting people out of the way! :fighting:
Think Plato will nab the title at Brands. He lost an engine in Race 2 but he does have the fastest car by some way
-

-
You is the man
-
I know what you mean lee about him being dirty and I do agree. However just to put it in perspective, he moved from 20th to 1st through the race which means he was obviously moving at a considerably faster pace than his rivals. When going that much faster due to the way the chassis is setup and no ballast etc... And people hold him up you can't just sit there in fairness. As I say I do agree but he has proved how good a driver he is and it's not all just because he's dirty, if you watched some of the lines he took and how tight he took them he was on the grass on a lot of corners to get a tighter line and I may be wrong but I think throughout the 22 laps he nudged 3 people and they weren't harsh nudges. Dont forget as the saying goes rubbings racing!
-
You've just explained the reaon why there's no need for him to rub / nudge / bump his way thru to the front. He car was the fastest by far and can somehow turn into corners a lot tighter than others. He had the pace...but I guess he just likes to entertain so does bit of bump and grind instead to get by and give the crowds something to shout about.
:happy2:
-
I'd say Matt Neal bully's his way through the field far more than JP. Sheddon was side swapping on Sunday a fair bit too!!
Go and watch a Touring Car DVD from the late 80's early 90's and you'll see what pussy's they are now moaning about a little bit of bum rubbing!
-
.
Irrespective of how much bumping and rubbing there is or has been in BTCC history, I simply don't like Plato's personality.
-
He's a racer and he wants to win! That'll do for me!
-

It's Plato's character off the track that I don't like, Nath. But who cares anyway.
-
Me and Rich saw Plato at Thruxton last year. He was walking along minding his business and some fella with his kid stopped him. He talked and posed for pics and then moved off. No fuss, no ego, gave the man the time of day and looked genuinely happy to be doing it as well.
That's how it should be in my opinion. I'm not saying any of the others would have behaved any differently but it was nice to see.

Yep I remember that. :-)
-
IMO With Plato it's a lot of bravado. I think he does and says things to be a bit controversial, probably to get more air time. I want more nudging and pushing.... That's what makes BTCC fun to watch and F1 boring (IMO)

Good PR. They all do it and it's certainly genuine towards the fans both big kids and small kids.

Everyone has some good in them. It doesn't matter what I think but, based on what I see of him, I generally dislike Plato. He is a great driver though.
-
I want more nudging and pushing.... That's what makes BTCC fun to watch and F1 boring (IMO)
....I think that purposely nudging and pushing is totally unfair to the driver in front. If more of this was allowed the race may as well be a scrappie's Stock Car race on a dirt oval.
IMO, BTCC race results should reflect a driver's skill.
I managed to hop inbetween TV channels and watch both the Japanese GP and the BTCC races - Different but each have much to offer to car enthusiasts.
-
I was there on Sunday…my first time at Silverstone. Was a great day apart from the freezing morning and fog delay :happy2:
The BTCC, Renault Clio Cup and Formula Renault races were great fun to watch. Bumping and grinding make the racing more exciting to watch :happy2:
Couldn't believe JP came from the back to win in the last race. He was flying in the MG. I rate him as a driver but also find it difficult to like him off the track.
I didn't realise how loud the BTCC cars are...well except the BMW's. The MG's and Audi’s were ear poppingly loud! :surprised:
Seeing Matt Neil on fire was surprisingly enjoyable
Next season I am planning on heading down to brands hatch…but the earlier race so its warmer.

.
For those here who may be too young to remember Led Zeppelin, this is the song which you hear on the BTCC TV coverage:
^ All these years later, the music is still absolutely awesome! :notworthy:
-
Now this is a totally random post but it is linked to BTCC
I am trying to find email/phone contact for a man called Ken aged about 55 , 5'10 large build who we met on holiday in October last year. He avidly supports AMD in the BTCC , he attende every round and he has a New RS Focus and also a MK2 RS2000 , he lives in Kent and works for BT (He is a trainer for them)
PM me if you have any details . Thanks :happy2:

Heads-up for final decider at Brands today. On ITV4 now!

Gutted it's wet as I'd say that pretty much means the title will go to a Honda driver!! :sad1:

Really happy that Plato has gone further back in the points and that Matt Neal :notworthy: is in with a chance of beating Plato too.
-
Come on Flash!!!
-
Would have preferred it to be a dry day but as they all have to race in the same conditions all is fair. No hope for Plato now.
:happy2:

Flash is Champion!!
Now let's hope Plato doesn't make it into 3rd place. Subtle comment from race 2 winner Aron Smith about sticking two fingers up at "certain big characters" (Plato) who had verbally challenged his right to be in the races at all :congrats: :congrats:

At Brands right now and there's a great atmosphere despite the weather. Thanks to AmD we got on the grid. :)

I wonder what car Collard will be driving next year?

I don't really follow BTCC, but what is the bad feeling towards Plato all about?

Normally all the drivers just give their normal scripted replies to the Media. Plato on the other hand will say what ever he wants when he wants and often it upsets people. I personally like it when they speak their mind. An example of this was the previous season when the turbo charged cars and NA cars were on the same grid - all the cars are setup to give the same straightline performance, yet the turbocharged cars always outdragged the NA cars; Plato was one of the few who spoke out about it, and rightly so IMO. How annoying must it be to overtake someone though the corners only for them to overtake you again on the straights.
IMO Plato is one of the most exciting and talented drivers on the field. He's renowned for giving people a nudge here and there to get past, but thats BTCC :driver:

....It's not accurate to say that "Normally all the drivers just give their normal scripted replies to the Media" - There are dozens of televised instances proving otherwise.
Plato is undeniably a very talented driver and the cut-n-thrust of close BTCC racing inevitably results in accidental nudging but Plato far too often nudges other drivers off on purpose and that's not fair competition, IMO.
Watching the race on ITV4 on Sunday it looked clear to me (and many others) that Plato bumped his rival for the championship Sheddon hard from behind on purpose but fortunately (for Sheddon) Collard's BMW stopped Sheddon spinning out. It ended Collard's race and his competing for other honours. If Plato was a fair driver he would have not have attempted such underhand means to beat his rival for the Championship.
We all have our favourite and least favourite competitors in every sport and want those favourites to win, but we all hope to be able to respect our least favourites. For example, I don't like Kimi Raikkonen but I do respect him. However, other than for his school for young drivers initiative, I have no respect for Plato at all.
'Flash' Gordon Sheddon was a very deserving 2012 BTCC Champion and a very popular one all down the pit lane - I wonder why.
-
This is touring car racing, nudging happens and always has, its been a major part of BTCC for as long as i can remember. Its why the BTCC IMO is so entertaining.
On the World touring Car scene its not as prolific, and more boring as a result. Maybe you should start watching that?
Im a Plato fan, ill not deny that, but im chuffed Sheddon lifted the title. He's definitely worthy of the title, and has been for years. Glad Neal didnt win, i find him boring.

x2
would have preffered plato to get the title, just glad Neal didnt get it. :drinking:
If you look at all the penalty points that are normally given out after the race, plato's name is hardly ever on the list compared to a fair few of the drivers, yet you dont seem to complain about those though Robin?

....I simply don't like Plato. I'm not especially a Honda fan but I like Matt Neal.
