As most of you know I sold my Edition30 and went into the unknown world of Vans, not much difference eh?
Now buying a MK3 Caddy isn't as straight forward as you think as i found out trawling the caddy forums. Three choices 140ps 6speed 2.0 TDI, 104ps 1.9 TDI 5speed or the 85ps 1.9 SDI the first is the most saught after then the 104ps and then the rather slow SDI. Up here in Scotland there are lots of the SDI's about due to there reliability and there low running costs so Co's favour them, I quickly ruled them out as they are just to slow if it even looks at a hill its clams up. So i went about looking for a 104ps model within my budget looking for elec windows, heated mirrors of poss low mileage and full serv history. problem number one vans are mostly high mileage or in poor condition so this scaled my search down to 2 vans within 200miles of my house lol. I wont bore you with the first one that was meant to be mint. So I ended up buying a 1 owner 56 Plate Reflec Silver 104ps C20 with 52k on the clock owned by a small engine rebuild company soon as I saw it you could tell it was well looked after paintwork was in fantastic condition with just a couple of stone chips, seats were as new as they had covers fitted from new. Full serv history and regular oil changes. Heres some pics

Now as this van is to be used for my business for which I attend shows I wanted it to have a few extras as the edition30 was always a good talking point and we always made it part of our stand so modding the van was a logical step. With vans though you are very limited to what you can do fortunately the Caddy shares a few things with the Mk5 Golf and the Vw touran a popular mod is a seat upgrade with the mk5 gti set up bolting right in I prev owned a gti cloth interior but sold it to Matt Poss on here :happy2: scouring ebay though I found an Audi A5 Leather front seats asking price £250 in the next town to me only 10mins away Happy days so i went to visit them and as they had been on the bay for a while the guy wanted rid so a deal was struck for 200
Fitting them involved a drill to the seat bases and chopping of two lugs on the base of the seats. Fitted here
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fe170%2Fb44fy%2FIMAG0199.jpg&hash=877bc4f603ce78c33f3f7147195d5a0f70a40e52)(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fe170%2Fb44fy%2FIMAG0227.jpg&hash=eb56c901dfb945715dc0408d6fb1f1aac2a3128f)
These have electric lumbar support and are possibly heated so I need to figure out how to wire up the seats, any advice pm me :happy2:
-
Next as with all cars it was a quick change of the headlight bulbs to some from powerbulbs, L/H side is the new bulb.

A wee clean of the engine bay as it had been done ever lol.

Next on the cards is to do a 312mm brake set setup conversion thanks to Jon tfsi :happy2: and a Mk5 MFSW from Apollo13 :happy2: so updates to follow :popcornsoda:
-
Looking good Keith :happy2:
Let me know a bit about the heated seats and I may be able to help you out :drinking:
-
:popcornsoda:
what rims have you got in mind?
-
Andy "toast" has a lovely mint set of ch's that he will swap you for a box of seedless grapes and an ambi pur air freshener. :happy2:

Good question VC, I am wanting to see how the van would fair with the weight in the back plus lowered on 18's.

I seen them but not sure if the sliding door would clip the wider rear wheels.

dude.... slam these on:

Leather seats look cool and a great excuse for interior retrim in leather!
Not sure about the porsche rims, though it may be VC's photoshopping skills.

Looking good Keith :happy2:

:happy2: Heres the attachments under the seat, seats have airbags so one for that, they also have electric lumbar controls.

The lumbar supports just need a + wire, as for the airbag plug you just need this:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi715.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fww160%2Fjakethemoss%2Fjojokok.jpg&hash=91d39217c62f7a7765942c46128526fa5f7d20c6)

Keith the yellow one will be for the airbags for sure.
Could you do a better picture of each connector with the wires showing? or just list the colours?
Do you know what year of A5 they were from?

Looking good so far Keith, looking forward to seeing this develop :happy2:
Will one of the seat plugs not be for the seatbelt warning light?!

I forgot I had this on here but done a few changes.
First up as you can sort of see in the previous pics the caddy's door cards are plain grey plastic and hard wearing so a popular mod and one which is hard to come by is the touran door cards  they need a wee bit of cutting but well worth it. Heres the new ones fitted took months to get them
Old
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fe170%2Fb44fy%2FIMG_2392.jpg&hash=f7eb5f6d025ac950ebd2514473c0c77bd0004fa6)
And new touran ones
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fe170%2Fb44fy%2FIMAG0743.jpg&hash=7a6aaa01673c2347b746281813f6e38c0b36d0ef)
after that it was time to bin the RCD300 and get something better so i got a good deal on a kenwood ddx4028BT good unit with bluetooth, dvd, ipod.
Now for the big stuff, I needed to have to get another car as well as run the van which would have been dear so I thought about retro fitting seats. I went to VW who came back with a silly price so i set about getting the parts myself best place to start ebay  htere were two options a kit for £800 which was just the rear seat and another from a co who do disability conversions on the caddy maxi so i got in touch with them and they could do 95% of the stuff for £400 result then the guy said they were up my way doing a demo and could deliver for free :notworthy: nice!
I will keep this short but you remove the bulkhead and then have to cut out a floor panel reveal the foot recees for the seats, weld a new seat mounting and some floor anchors. Bearing in mind I have never done this before I am well chuffed with it.

got some under floor storage and the caddy maxi carpets as well.

seats are two seater and a single

seats come fold down and also can be removed in less than 5 mins but even with the seats in its still got room
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fe170%2Fb44fy%2FIMAG0714.jpg&hash=b0760e78e53a1c599922fc8df80b7422497b7e12)

I have re-plylined and carpeted the rear with some noise foam behind the panels as well, still got the seat belts to do at the sides as well.
Also fitted a MKV leather MFSW to replace the plastic steering wheel. and fitted MKV GTI pedals as well.
I have these alloys from a mk6 which i have rested in front but I am not sure on them yet
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fe170%2Fb44fy%2FIMG_2284.jpg&hash=4c6f346d68ae59e2ce069a01ce31ad392a90bf44)
-
another exteremely popular but expenzive mod is the touran front bumper costing between 100-350 for a used one. I sourced the top of the bumper for £80
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi39.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fe170%2Fb44fy%2FP1050051.jpg&hash=3eca14e7ec3c97693cc8c514e0ec8a7939e1f93a)
It has now been resprayed silver thre bottom part(black plastic is in the bin and deciding on either the same but painted reflec silver with the slats and fog inserts done gloss black or pay £314 and get the sportline version you then need to factor in painting at about £100 makes it a dear add on.
I am also looking out for PD150 Turbo as I want to upgrade the 104 version, would need to remap, airbox and piping, intercooler & new zorst but would be good for 190bhp so a new upgraded clutch would be of benefit.
-
Are your original caddy 3 door cards for sale?
-

Awesome Keith. :notworthy:
Love the interior work with the seats mate.
I think a tastefully modded van can work wonders for any business, especially in your trade.
Just remember that every penny you spend on the van is going to good use. Advertising costs a fortune nowadays, so its great to be able to justify spending money on mods when they are for your business…..and you can claim back the vat too.
Now get spending on your companies future and get some 19" BBS, suspension, BBK etc, etc, etc.
-
Bad news today. Going along a country road over a hill hit black ice and lost control of the van. On the whole it didn't look that bad until I looked under the bonnet. pipe bent into the timing belt so its a non driver wing fecked as well as both headlights and bumper. Coolant and an oil on road so dont know if the sumps done as I was lucky the van went to the right and up into a banking with heavy gorse bushes... to the left was more gorse bushes and a meter drop into a field. Which would have made recovery fun. So she's off the road for a while.
-
:scared: :scared: Aarghh!!
What have you done?! I just noticed this thread last night and clicked to be notified of any updates. I've never had a van, so never modified one. But there's something about modifying a car/van so it's still useable and even better if it promotes your business. Is it an insurance job do you reckon, or sortable yourself? Pics?
Hope this doesn't hold you back modifying the Caddy. It just reinforces the benefits of winter tyres. Looking forward to some (positive) updates. :happy2:
-
Holy sh*t! Bad news dude! Hope you get it all sorted soon!

Accident repair place aint helping. Van still not picked up and have now been moved to another acc/repair place after some shocking cust service from the first company. to say am pissed off is an under statement. I had to pay to recover my van as if it were left it would be stripped by now.

Some inspiration from Audi/VW legends in Scotland. Hope the van comes back stronger than before.
-
Well after much waiting as some bits were on back order from VW i got my van back from the repair centre. Sporting new nose.

About time Keith. Looking good mate. New shoes soon?
I some weird goings on at that place, i found a phillips scredriver hanging out one of the interior panels :stupid: van went into limp mode and found the acc pedal cable hanging on by a thread. god knows what was going on. but looking for some springs then wheels. brakes go on once the wheels are sorted.lol
Glad it's back to its former glory Keith :happy2:
Looks like there were a few nice caddys at Ultimate Dubs. Have you seen the pics in the latest thread?
I seen a few on the caddy forum a lot of time and money spent lol.
-
Sounds a bit dodgy!! At least your a screwdriver up though :rolleye:
-
Aye, contemplating swapping out the seats to a cloth mk5 golf gt set up.
-
I know it's a little late,
but good to know you are ok, and the caddy was revived.
What caddy forums are you on? Can't seem to find too many. (mainly, as I spend too much time on here and golf mk5 :innocent:)
keep it up.
I like what you did in the rear too. As I often thought about being able to do something like that, just did not have a panel van to try and figure out how to do this.
Your inspiration of the van, has now inspired me to potentially get one and work on it too. Better for moving parts around than my GTI.
-
the best caddy forum is http://caddy2k.com but its like being on here it will drain your resources lol. There are some really nice caddys there including two that have the mk6 gti facelift.
-
the most common mod of all time and most versatile part in the vag catalogue  Seat Cupra R Splitter gone up in price thanks to folk on ebay selling them for double the price lol. wee chop either end and fits needs to be secured a little but its on.

Ok so total of 32.49 for door trims posted ill send a pm over.
-
Just noticed cant pm. How can I send you my pp address?
-
Good progress and glad to see your back on the road and ploughing ahead with mods.
BTW I meant to mention ages ago, I'm from just south of Edinburgh so probably nearby now and then. Did you used to have a unit at Broxburn or Newbridge?
Random Q's I know, sorry.

I stay in brox, units in linlithgow. I had been tempted by some of the wheels you had for sale.
Got some eibach sportlines on there way so hopefully get them fitted next week
-
Ah, I thought you were relatively local(ish).
PM'd RE Wheels.
-
Moving a lot faster with the mods than me anyway. Haha. I just hoared the parts......
-
Cant afford coilovers so opted for these instead- Eibach Sportline Kit with rear KW shackle/flip axle kit meant to be good for 45mm drop but I have opted for some mk5 dampers up front which are meant to be shorter than the caddys so may see some extra drop
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi39.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fe170%2Fb44fy%2FIMG_0088.jpg&hash=6e77d912d606d60dee0a339f741f2f12a31ae86f)

Looking forward to the lowered pics. Interested to see how the rears work. Do you mind taking some detailed pictures of them installed. :happy2:
Liking your progress. Any wheels picked for it yet? Or do you have any in mind? 17's, 18's? With a silver car van, you can virtually have any colour of wheels.
-
Have been pricing kw coils even with oldschool pricing still dam expensive 8$, have run eibach springs before very good indeed. Will be intresting to see the stance they give. Any chance on confermation price for ew doorcards posted?
-
.
I sold my Mk5 GTI Interlagos front seats to a guy with a grey Caddy - He was very pleased with them and they looked strangely OEM. I got some pics somewhere.
-
I had a set of GTI seats and wished I had kept them but sold them to a guy on here. Fitted the front eibach springs with FK mk5 golf front shocks at the weekend and while its not coilover low it looks good, going to do the rear on saturday and fit my new knob . Front end is much better now no loss in comfort feels tighter and not as much bopping about. Pics to follow
Will check the door cards as someone bought some of the old trim so not sure if they were swapped.
-
No worries on the door cards if not available. Pics of yours lowered needed asap what size wheels are you running, only ask because I have fitted 16 x 7s on my 2k and wonder if could get mine nose down with springs only 8)
-
Here's a pic of the arch before and after, Eibach say 45mm drop so I have slightly more this maybe due to the mkv shocks instead of putting on caddy ones. Rear still isnt done :ashamed:. Trying to get alloys so i can get the gti front brake setup on as well and also to get the winter tyres off( one which the insurance co's garage fitted the wrong way :fighting:) I pay my insurance monthly and thinking of cancelling as the farkups I keep finding are really bad.

And some interior bling, knob swap, very very easy to do.

It's gonna look awesome with that drop Keith :happy2:

I had a set of GTI seats and wished I had kept them but sold them to a guy on here. Fitted the front eibach springs with FK mk5 golf front shocks at the weekend and while its not coilover low it looks good, going to do the rear on saturday and fit my new knob . Front end is much better now no loss in comfort feels tighter and not as much bopping about. Pics to follow
Will check the door cards as someone bought some of the old trim so not sure if they were swapped.
I bought the seats off you Keith and I've just sold them on to another member on here about a month ago :happy2:

Just noticed this build thread. Fantastic! :happy2: This is something what im looking for work :chicken:. What were the rear seats you installed?

Where is the tyre dressing?
-
Would like to see pics of it lowered all round on the steels what setting on rear are you planning think top hole is lowest and lowest hole is highest setting :happy2:
-
should get that at the weekend. theres a guy on here selling FK coilover kit, split it for the fronts might be good for more lows.

Thats what I was going for but my mechanic talked me out of it, that will look the business Keano.
-
Tbh those rs/rm reps are tempting they come in stagered sizes also. Imo they will look awsome with your painted bumpers and some bbs caps. I think original bbs in 17/18 would be perfect in a dream world money no object but in reality not in my price range or practical for a work van.
-
How come he talked you out of it dude?long term issues?
-
Well finally got the rear dropped pics are directly after so may have to settle a bit. first side took 1h25mins the other 30mins lol guff instructions from eibach.
Its not coilover low but then its not what I was after, i wanted a compromise which is what i have, ride is perfect and the handling for a van is much better. Going to get the steering setting changed on vagcom to stiffen it up a bit more. Next is a trip to skydz to get some new rims then the mk5 gti brake setup as the fronts pads and discs are making noises  also got a Alpine reverse camera to go in plus some rear speakers, delete the towbar and get a milltek. Top pic is pre purchase and the lower is from today.

Love it Keith :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:

Bought some alloys, tt reps 5x112 impulse buy on another forum. but the front brakes are very low and having the mk5 set up sitting about I wasn't about to get another caddy set just to use for a few hundred miles rooked now but did manage to buy a self tint film pack for the rear windows for 4.50 plus the vat :D Fit the alloys on sat, not new and a few marks but will do me until I can get the ones I want. might get these sprayed not sure on a colour but drawn to porsche orange :chicken:

nice! loving what you have done to her already, some nice, tidy mods! :happy2:

Well here's the rims. I like them but the tyre size is questionable 215 think 225 may look better looks like am on elastic bands and any lowering seems to be lost on them. suggestions?

Well Keith, the wheels look amazing bud :congrats: :congrats: :congrats:
They really suit the caddy :notworthy:
….but I think you are right about the tyres :ashamed:
Whats the spec of the wheels and tyres?
Id say 225's if not 235's :popcornsoda:
-
Thanks :happy2: they are Audi TT reps 18" 5x112 fitment
-
Thanks :happy2: they are Audi TT reps 18" 5x112 fitment
Wow I thought they were 19's
What tyres are they Keith 215/40/18's ?
The sidewall looks very small.
-
they are 215/35/18 :surprised:
-
:surprised: I think you have got the wrong tyres matey :sad1:
I don't know if they should be the same as the mk5 golf but if so, for 18" the tyres should be 225/40/18
I am running 35 tyres on my 19's.
With the 225/35/19 it keeps the rolling measurement nearly the same as the 225/40/18.
(It doesn't throw the speedo out in other words.)
Id try and get some 225/40/18 or if poss 235/40/18, and then sell yours on.
I reckon the van would benefit from the slightly chunkier 235/40/18's :happy2:
-
The 2k seems to swallow alloys making them look tiny against flat sides am guessing the 35 profiles add to this effect yours is coming together tho what setting(hole) is the rear on? Hoping to get kw's on soon 8)
-
Its on the very bottom one. I would like the KW's but uber dear
-
Think that is the highest setting recomended for springs and prob best for comfort/carrying stuff. Does yours have much kit in the back just looks quite low in pics imagine on highest hole eek.
-
It has a row of three seats and thats about it. dont carry as much as i used to.
-
Finally got the 215's off and a set of Falken 225/40/18 on. road noise has dropped and once the steering was aligned alls good. keeping my eye out for a set of front coilovers from the golfs to give more lows at the front. Next is the brakes and finish of the rear seat belts and retrim the interior sides. Paint the rear bumper. list goes on

How it looks at the moment also deleting the towbar tomorror

For anyones that wonders what the flip axle means heres a oic of how caddy owners get the caddy lower at the rear. Simply moving the leaf spring from above to below the axle. Cheap FK stuff has beeing doing good as well. worth the £68 for front and backs.

:congrats: MILES Better Keith. :happy2:
What a difference to the sidewalls :happy2:

Got the TT Brakes fitted today with some braided hoses no pics as yet as the van and wheels are manky lost the bug. A great mod as the vans braking is so much better now. Once the rear seat belts are finished I am looking at selling and trying to get my bug back(not a beetle by the way) :P
