Title: Help required from early mk5 Gti owners with highline.
Post by: RoMocop on December 04, 2012, 09:41:19 pm
Hi

Need to ask for a bit of help from you guys on here with highline, particularly if you have a manual mk5 gti 2005-2006.

When you go out in your car and you put your key in, turn ignition on. If you open your car door, the picture of the car automatically comes up on the display showing you which doors open. Can anyone tell me if there says 'Vehicle Status' or anything else along the top part of the display screen. It would be great if anyone could post up a photo or even a video.

Since I installed my polar fis (currently removed) the top part of my display has gone black and I am sure it was not like that before. Polar are telling me some early clusters are like that because of different firmwares etc. Im not convinced.

Cheers in advance.  :notworthy:

Here is what mine looks like now:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fae2%2Fremorrison11%2FIMG_0577.jpg&hash=ae60d6f4fbf39cdf50d346d4d941ec334504c8d9)

And in Mandys it looks like this which is what I think they should all look like:

Ill have to double check when I get my car back from the dealer. Mine is an 05
I'm pretty sure mine doesn't say vehicle status but when the car is running the whole highline is definately displayed.

Thanks. Yeah my highline is fully displayed in all other menus, just the home menu (not sure of proper name) the top part goes black. I just dont think it was black before.

Mines an 06 manual with highline, and it definitely doesn't say vehicle status when a door is open. The top part is lit up though.

Thanks andrew. Ok so Im not 100% sure that mine did say Vehicle Status but I am 99.9% sure it was at least lit up. Something just looks odd to me and I must've noticed something is different compared to before. Just seems too black.

Mine is the same as the pic above

It was a black line for a while but I got the clock back after messing about with the polar

I'm still randomly losing menus though

I have a dsg box and mine shows the clock where you have nothing.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fae2%2Fremorrison11%2FIMG_0577.jpg&hash=ae60d6f4fbf39cdf50d346d4d941ec334504c8d9)

Initially the clock was in the middle of that upper screen but now it's to the right after fitting a rns510. I can't recall seeing 1/1 on that screen though.

btw I also have a silver polar fis+ advanced unit installed and the above holds true with polar firmware versions 0.2.7, 0.3.0 and the latest 0.3.1.

I have just done a video to show what happens to mine. When I first get in my car mine shows the clock to the right but when I put my key in and go through the menus, this is when I get the black screen at the top of the home screen.

No it is not installed. I was hoping by removing the polar unit it would bring the upper display back but seems like this is not the case. This is why I wanted others to post a video of theirs so I can show auto polar its not normal.

The screen and back light should be ok as when you first get into the car it illuminates correctly...

When the upper screen goes black, do you still see the clock on your sat nav if you turn it off?

This assumes your nav is running a firmware that supports the clock showing on its screen when turned off with the key in the ignition.

Do you mean a clock on the RNS, if so I dont have a clock on my RNS.

Mine is exactly the same as Maxitrol's when the driver door is open, either with ignition key in and engine running, ignition key in but engine not running, or ignition key out.

Mine is a October 2005 on a 55 plate.

Thanks for your input Ian- I dont suppose you could take a short video when you are next out in your car. It would be much appreciated as I want to show auto polar how it should look rather than them telling me mines normal.

I just need as many videos or pics as poss to back me up.

Thank you all for your input so far. :notworthy:

Are they the original clocks? My speedo goes up to 180mph (golf GTi), yours appears to only go up to 160mph (I know white is a faster colour ) just wondered if your clocks have been swapped, which is maybe why your having such issues?

Is yours an ED30 or GTI ?

Some good and bad news.

Pic of when I enter the car (ignition off). Please disregard the time as I linked the wrong pic and deleted the correct original.

Turn on the ignition

When cycling through the screens I do get that black upper border.

If I turn off the ignition with the screen showing the black area it goes back to this.

NO highline would have a black part at the top

That part is normally used for low fuel, Low screen wash or Oil, coolant

It's only black on the screen that shows the diagram of the car, all other menus it is lit up eg NAVIGATION, AUDIO etc and the petrol light comes on in that top part too when the fuel is low.

Does that sound about right?

it shouldn't do it, if bacillas has it too it too then it is a glitch in the the polar

i've never seen another highline do that
Title: Re: Help required from early mk5 Gti owners with highline.
Post by: RoMocop on December 06, 2012, 02:58:57 pm
Right, to try and explain this a bit better...

- I open my door and keep it open, I put the key in and turn ignition. The picture of the car pops up, with the compass on the upper left of display and the time on the upper right of display. All looks normal.

- I scroll through each menu and when it gets back to the menu with the pic of the car, this is when the top part goes BLACK.

- If I take my key out again, clock comes back on the upper part of display. Back to normal.

Can anybody try and do the same as above and tell me if the same thing happens.

Cheers in advance. :notworthy:

Sorry for keeping on! :ashamed:

I am in agreement with Romocop's description on how this ^^occurs.

That being said, I have no issues with either the polar or everyday viewing usage of the highline screen.
