Title: Fog Lights
Post by: Betty02 on December 21, 2012, 10:45:27 am
Feel I have forgotten everything about Golfs since I've been away! Sorry for all the questions again chaps!

Are all MK5 golf fog lamps the same? Not the bulbs the actual unit themselves and then just different fog surrounds? need a new one!

Thanks!

On the gti the early projector lens type are h11 and the later reflector lens ones are either a h4 or hb4

Stolen fron Timvgti....  :happy2:

Projector style fogs are H11, reflector style fogs are HB4.
My 2005 GTI has o.e.m. projector style fogs, they look better, but I guess they are more expensive, so VW replaced them for reflector style fogs on >2006 mk5's.
(Thought axx came with projectors, bwa came with reflectors)

Projector style:

But do they have to be off a GTi? Or can they be of a basic spec?

I've got a 2005 GTI and it came with reflector fogs from new, not projector. So it wasn't necessarily a standard fitment then.

But do they have to be off a GTi? Or can they be of a basic spec?

I think that the GTI and GT mark V's share the same unit, but I seem to remember hearing that the standard Golf has a different style unit.

You are correct. When I changed my front end I needed new fogs and bulb holders. Think the loom is different on the bulb holder too.

quick question. does anyone know the part number for the bulb holder on the gti reflector lights?
i had read they were plug and play but it appears this was not on the pre-facelift gt. :(

so i've got 2 fogs that need the adapters seen in these pictures. (pics borrowed from a guide on bulb changing from somewhere on inter web!)
