As you can aee in my other posts, ive Had new dmf and clutch done yet still had the noise issues so took it back.
Gearbox pro has driven the car now and has said the bearings and shaft bearings are shot and a re con gearbox needed :rolleye:
Prices are tbc but with 99k I am maybe questioning getting this done after shelling out on dmf/clutch!!! So the question I am asking is their a cheaper alternative to a whole new box I.e can I just replace the bearings damaged or I'm I best biting the bullet and getting it done????
-
IMO you really need to see what sort of money they are quoting before making any decision.
-
get a quote on fixing your gear box
-
Been told circa 500 all in so with my DMF and clutch 1100. Good price??? What else can go wrong with this motor now !!!! :rolleye:
-
yes i know what you mean-felt like burning mine last year
-
What made you keep it??? Don't get me wrong i live it as it does everything you need plus places a great smile on your face  but their must come a time when you say enough but when???? High mileage don't seem to matter as long looked after so I'm hoping once this done she lasts another 100k as fvwsh, 2 owners etc.

thought what else am i going to get for the money if i sell it,.when i drove the car i fell in love with it again :happy2:

With the gearbox being out and stripped, it might be better to recondition, at least you know it's good then. What's your gearbox code?
-
Don't know, how do I find the gearbox code out???
-
Wot engine code and year
-
Look at the production sticker in your manual. Where mine says 'GVT' is the gearbox code.

Ok will do. What is the better code to have and how does it make a difference in recon etc?
From memory it is later BW.. engine and a 2006 year so im assuming gvt box as your sticker.
-
There are many variations of box fitted to the GTI. I'm just curious as I'm having similar issues.
-
I'd get it rebuilt as there's no guarantees another used box will be fine. Maybe take the opportunity to fit an LSD too
-
Been up to gearbox specialists, either one of the bearings has gone so the box will need to be fixed/reconditioned at a cost of circa best case scenario if just bearings/gaskets/oil £600... Recon box looking at £1500 all in. As advised will best I recondition Exisitng one. Been told not to drive far and no high revs. This all sound sensible/responsible???

The gearbox went on mine not too long ago but fortunately picked up another gearbox on ebay for under 300 from a GTI GVT coded box I don't think it's 100% but for the money I did not complain, I still have my old broken box which I will get rebuilt and if possible to have it reinforced encase the one I have now breaks in the near future
Gluck!

Ok car going in tomorrow should take a week to repair/recon gearbox bearings apparently. Hopefully it can be repaired if bot its a new recon box!!! It's recently had dmf/clutch/cencentric but as its going to be all out anything I need to replace rather than having to pull it all out again??
