Hi Neil

Did you check the box "Telematics" in the gateway installation list?

All wires checked and double checked?

Hi Neil

All wires checked and double checked?

Nope, do i have to check the Telematics box in the list then, if so did i need to do that first, before i connected the box?
or
Is there another way?

Has it shown up on the Highline at all?

Scroll through the Highline onto the stock trip screen as VCDS can't communicate when on the polar screen (if that makes sense)
Title: Re: Fitting Polar FIS +

Yeah matey, that's makes sense, no polar screen showing up at all

Might need an update from polar to the correct screen for your car. Red dot or white dot.
Title: Re: Fitting Polar FIS +
Post by: scopes on February 13, 2014, 10:36:51 pm
:drinking: cheers for the helps guys!

Not sure what red dot white dot are?

Do i need to remove it from the car, before i can do an update, or can it be done still connected...?
Title: Re: Fitting Polar FIS +
Post by: rich83 on February 13, 2014, 10:38:07 pm
MK5 will be red dot.. on the highline display  :happy2:

Plug it into your computer and run the update on the polar website.
Title: Re: Fitting Polar FIS +
Post by: fab5freddy on February 13, 2014, 10:40:08 pm
Seeing as you can't see it in the car probably best to remove and update I would think.

Red dot is the cluster you will have (mk5). White dot (mk6) etc

^^^ what Rich said
Title: Re: Fitting Polar FIS +
Post by: scopes on February 13, 2014, 10:44:53 pm
Yeah it came from a mk5, i would assume it is red dot.

I can access the polar box, to connect the wire, is it safe to do so whilst connected to the car?

checking for photos !

i would take it out to update the box--Maybe a daft question but you do have high line display

In addition to the question of if you have a highline mfd, is your polar box plastic or aluminium? If aluminium is it silver or black?

Yeah have the high line display, do i need anything else...?  :happy2:

Didn't fancy having to take it out again  :sad1: :sad1: :sad1:

Left it in a place i could access the box, just encase it could be updated, when connected !  :ashamed:

If connected then you need to update using the polar update in the configuration setting on the mfd screen.
If you can manage to disconnect the plug from the box then that puts it in update mode and can then be updated by just connecting your usb cable after getting on to the polar update site.

NB The site only works with Internet explorer

Ok, if you get to the update site for the update you want to upgrade to FIS_Adv_v0.4.2RZ1(Red_dot)(EN_ES_FR_IT_PT). The updater will also show you if you have a PF03 (advanced) or not by the updates it offers you.

"update in the configuration setting on the mfd screen" I would need to be able to access this first on my dash, would that be right...?  :innocent:

If so then it needs removed  :fighting2:

The box supports updating both in and out of the car.

If you call it a night and leave the polar disconnected from the car then it's possible that your battery may go flat tomorrow as the head unit may not fully turn off.

So it needs removed to do the update, as i will not see it on the high line screen?

Good luck with the update.

My gut feeling is that there is an issue with the polar cable itself as it's easy to break a wire at either end and not notice it without a close inspection.

Cheer matey !

I have the box out, so when I go to the update page, it waits till I connect the lead to the polar, then goes to update/connect and shows up with problem!  :sad1:

What error message do you see, Device damaged??

PF03 means you have a Polar FIS+ Advanced.

The Telematics box is automatically checked with your model version of polar. By any chance do you have BT/telephone in your car as well?

No It seems to be internet explorer doing something, doesn't stay on screen long enough to see what it says..

No I have the Bluetooth unit there, but its not connected...

tried on two different computers so far, one with xp and the other wins 8...

You must do this in IE to allow the active X to be installed.

Go to internet options>security>custom level>scroll down to Download unsigned ActiveX controls and set it to prompt instead of the default Disable.

Go back to the web update page and allow the ActiveX to run. You should then be greeted with this screen.

If you've changed the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to prompt, save the changes. If you have a browser window open, close it/them then re-open IE and go to the polar update site. Once you get there you should get a pop up asking if you want to run the activeX, agree. You may have to click another run box thereafter you should then see the page looking like what I've just posted above.

Remember, get to the update screen as above before connecting your polar.

if I disconnect the Polar box and not reconnect for.... a week, my battery will go dead?

So basically if you need to remove the box its best to remove the cable also?

Yes unless you are removing the polar for only a short time

Hello mate, me and Mandy had this issue- we disconnected the negative from the battery then once Polar is all fitted, reconnect battery. You'll see the highline display come back on when you open drivers door. Now close the door again and lock the door with key fob. Wait for display to go out (look thru window), unlock car with key fob and open drivers door. Put key in ignition and use steering wheel arrows to scroll thru menus. Might be worth a try.

Also on my Polar box I had a dodgy cable, I used to have to wiggle it to make it appear on the screen. :happy2:

Title: Re: Fitting Polar FIS +
Post by: bacillus on February 14, 2014, 10:04:17 pm
Yup, I suggested to Neil that this may well be cable or a cable connection issue...

  :drinking:
Well tried as Romocop had suggested, that didn't work out, check all the wire's seems ok... but when i was sitting flicking through the highline dash options the radio was showing up diagnostics connected, as it does when the VCDS is scanning, a bit of a sharp noise, like a record scratching... :signLOL:

I also don't have a mfsw!

So could well be a dodgy cable, they do look fragile !

If it has a dodgy cable, can this cause battery drain?
Title: Re: Fitting Polar FIS +
Post by: bacillus on February 14, 2014, 10:35:36 pm
Neil you sometimes see that  "diagnostics connected" at first start up of the polar.
I can't remember how you cycle through the various menu screens on your mfd (audio, settings, navigation etc) if you don't have a mfsw but can you please try doing so.
The polar desktop screen doesn't automatically show up when you first install the polar but once you display it and turn the ignition off, on restarting the polar desktop should re-appear as default.

I only have the normal wipper stalk also, could this be why?
with the option to move up and down and with the ok button...

For some reason i don't get the option to flick through music or audio, only through the rns510 with using the sat-nav, it then allows me to skip songs!

Hmm, I have a feeling that because you can't seem to cycle through the various menu screens you'll not be able to access the polar desktop screen even though the polar is working correctly.
Have you double checked your car manual as I'm pretty sure the menu screen cycling can be done using the wiper stalk.

think by the sound of it you might need the mfsw-wonder if any member with a high line and mfsw is near you can try the polar on there carto see if it works

I can go through different options, but the polar is not one of them, i get driving time, avg speed, distance travelled, fuel range, avg fuel, current fuel, speed warning....

but don't seem to be able to access main options...

Yes had a read through the manual, i'm seem to be doing things right...

I don't seem to be able to enter a menu options screen...

My high line was an after fit, 974 clocks if i remember correctly, is something missing?
long coding?

I'm near sure in my mates ed30, he can access different options than i can, but then i also think he has a different wiper stalk!

Shouldn't be a question about a stalk, i have the stalk you have with buttons for the menu, along with a afterfitted mk 6 MFSW and i can use both, as i have coded via VCDS the use of both.
Still sounds like the cable to me  :happy2:

Well i took it out, checked the wires, re-loaded the polar box, but still not showing up on the screen.  I noticed when i hold the OK button in, i hear like a clicking noise coming from the polar box, then my RNS displays that "diagnostics connected"...

How did you code them in Jake?  I have the RS4 steering wheel, but have been unable to get using buttons, always wanted to see what the "S" button would do  :jumping: :signLOL:

Test the cable with an multimeter.
Rich, I'm not up to multi-metering, so was unable to test that way... But i'm sure i could get someone too show me or test it for me...

I am now also able to scan the car with vcds, as it was not allowing me to do that before.

Title: Re: Fitting Polar FIS +
Post by: scopes on February 15, 2014, 10:48:33 pm
Have a highline dash clocks and have had them fitted and coded, they are working, I don't have a MFSW only the wiper stalk, when I press and hold the up or down buttons no menu comes up. If I press it then i can change through the MPG, AVG speed, just no menu, and also it doesn't display the audio I am listening to - have an RNS 510, but when i use the sat nav, the sat nav comes on the highline dash ok!

I have been looking for ways to code or add in the wiper stock, anyone any ideas?

thanks

You've got 972 clocks so really speaking you will need a MFSW with the 'later' buttons that specifically have a Menu button.

Do you know if that would be possible through using the Audi rs4 wheel?
or
Would i need a different box or firmware?

New steering wheel  :sad1:

Todays update  :signLOL:

Removed the Polar box, no fault codes, but i did notice a few of the wires i could see bare wire.    :surprised:

So can anyone give me any advice on what to do here please?

My suggestion is to sent it to a good fellow member to test for me, if its the wires, replace the lead, if it can be turned/changed to be used by a non-MFSW car...

Or can any of these things be done?

I would also like to find out how or if i can code in the wiper stalk to access the menu options...

Guys again thanks for all the help, really appreciate the support!  :notworthy: :notworthy:

Which of the three connectors are you seeing bare wires? The one that plugs into the polar is a bit flimsy even when new. I think it's easy to test the integrity of the separate wires with a multimeter so choose that path in the first instance if it's local to you.

As for coding the stalk, perhaps Danishmkvgti could help seeing he can use his stalk for cycling the menus. I think that this is paramount as without that function being available, you won't be able to cycle through to the polar desktop even if it (the polar) is installed and working correctly.

Thanks Ayoub

Yes the wires that connect in to the polar box itself!

I will upload some pictures, might be hard to see, a small broken wire through a picture, will try anyways!

You can use the polar without a mfsw. Everything is done on the stalk. I can use either the stalk or the wheel on the vRS.

If you press and hold the lower rocker on the stalk then you should be able to get to the menu functions. Does that not work?

^^It was the same on our Altea, but the mk5 has a dedicated Menu button on the MFSW. Pretty sure stalk menu access only works with xx0/xx1 clocks.

Is fitting a MFSW not an option, Scopes?

Have the RS4 steering wheel in, love the feel of it  :signLOL:

Mk6 steering wheel maybe, but what else is needed to add the mk6 wheel in?

Sell the rs4 wheel get an ed30 one and add the mfsw buttons !

must be away round it  :notworthy:
