Just seen this thread!

Car is looking lovely!  8) 8)

I've done a similar number plate mod (sticker front plate) - had it on since 17 December, and had no troubles with the Plod so farrrrrrrrrrrr!! Touch wood!!!!

Albeit, mine is slightly bigger than yours, but still not full size lettering, and non-legal font, however I have legal spacing.

May I ask where you got your plate from, feel free to PM me, incase anyone unfavourable is viewing this forum.

Chris

I really like the mods you have done, i like the splitter alot, most peeps go the other way and leave it black, looks good imo!!

One question i hope u dont mind me asking, with changing the piping colour on the grill is that an easy job? White looks really good set against the rest of car.

cheers pal, all you have to do is remove the gti grill (2 screws at the bottom of the grill, and two at the top) and you will see there are just little plastic tabs holding the piping on be careful when taking it out tho as i had to do a little repair on mine due to little patience

update 12/02/08

bought some gti skirts and fitted them last night in the freezing cold , undecided whether to keep them black or paint them as im getting a vwr splitter for the front and keeping that black..

also fitted some apex 40mm spring on the rear ( waiting for a spring compressor for the fronts)

yeah I'd paint the skirts white, will help keep the 'line' when looking side-on against the rear bumper cos that comes quite low.

Tom:
The coilies are on the last threads already  :scared: just took the platforms out of the rears today and replaced them with the standard rubber ones.
i will try these black 5 spokes and if they dont look too cracking, save up for some 17" rs (same as mr x5pea).

Greenhouse Top cat:
Plenty of scrubbage on the front   even with the screw mod, i have even folded the metal tabs up into the wing, i only really get it on full lock or when driving enthusiasticaly*  :innocent:

my next mods planned are open fog grills, front mudguards and a gti rear spoiler...

thanks again for the great feedback  :happy2:

Update 28/5/09:

got the new wheels on, 18" mercedes amg style 3 wrapped in toyo t1-r's 215/40/18 back and 225/40/18 front.

have a bit of scrubbing due to the offset as they are et 35 all around so im looking at getting the arches rolled before my tyres fall apart

personally i think this has completed the look of the car now and im really happy with it, next up is a gti spoiler some front mudguards and may treat her to some open fog grills  :happy2:

Dubwaydan can i ask have you noticed a difference in the way the car rides or handles with having strech tyres on the back
and also why you put wider tyres on the front and not the back. wouldn't that solve the scrubing on the front

I would like to know this as i plan to put 215/40/18 tyres on a 18x8 wheel on the front of my car so i can lower my car more. :happy2:

hi mate,

the only reason i put the 215's on the back were because the tyres had already done 300 miles and i want the fronts to last as long as possible (which are brand new)

the scrubbing issues are sorted on the front now, i have folded the metal lip on the inside of the wing all the way around.

i havent noticed any change in the handling at all, still need to test the tyres to their limits  but not had any problems as yet  :happy2:

POORMANS UPDATE:

skint at them moment  so i have done a few poorman's mods...

swapped 215/40/18 from back to front to stop scrubbing..

lowered coilovers as far as they will go on the front..

removed supercharger cover and insulation which has given me quite a lot more whine upto 3000rpm  :innocent:..

and done a little modification to the rear lights as you can see in one of the pics below  i think it totally transforms the look of the car at night and only cost me £10 for materials !!!....

some recent pics..........

Post by: DubwayDan on June 17, 2009, 10:54:46 am
its quite a time consuming job but thats just getting all the interior panels off to route the wires.

firstly drilled and sealed the inners with the new bulbs in.
then ran 2 wires each side to the 12v socket in the boot.
i then just found a plug for the 12v socket and wired the lights upto that,
it means they are always on when ignition is on but they go off once the car is turned off  :happy2:

i didnt have to use any resistors or anything like that btw its very simple.

Yeah, he has wired them so that they come on and off with the other exterior lights whereas yours will come on and off with the ignition won't they?

sprayed the air tank matt black so it looks a bit more factory in the boot and Shes booked in with luke at plush for the end of this month to have the airbag struts supplied and fitted.

For the exhaust tip i have gone for a single 4" carbon slashcut which has the look of the ceramic miltek pipes which i was after  and the sound is just what i wanted, you can really hear the turbo through the exhaust and it still pops and coughs like a mofo  :happy2:

only adjustment i am going to make is so that the exhaust tip sticks out about half an inch more so you can see the carbonness a little better, would love to hear your comments as always good and bad !!

Looks kind of funny but i like it.  :happy2:  I love seeing people pushing the boundaries with a Mk 5.  :happy2:

Have you had a look how much the zorst is growing when it gets hot, i agree it needs to be a tad further out, but not by much. They can grow about 3 or 4 inches when hot.

joe: thought about doing the mk6 style with one of these at each side but wanted to get away from the twin exhaust design and have something different.

since i have owned my car for a year there have been another 3 white r32 reps pop up near me !!, so im trying to make it look a little different now

tc: nope didnt realize it grew that much ! i had noticed some of the laquer starting to crack though so i will be sanding it down for a matt finish but ill be sure to have a check next time im out for an enthusiastic drive  :happy2:

30/11/09 Pretty bag one

well... the car has been in at plush for the last 10 days getting an air lift products MKV slam kit supplied and fitted.

i had previously bought a full "plug n play"  :scared:  kit from airbagit.com and tbh the quality of the set up was not the best ( looked like universal stuff modified for a non gti mk5 when i clearly stated the strut was gti size.

anyway i had fitted the compressor, run the lines and made a false floor etc. all the little bits and decided to let luke rip on the actual bags and for a notch on the chassis, at the moment it is around 1" off laying frame, soon to be changed once i get her back

enjoy...

front bags.

tried the new wheels at the back, if anything im going to need a 10mm spacer as they stick out about 15mm with about 50psi in the bags. once lowered they will lean/camber in and looks like they are goin to be very close to the inner arch.

make sure you dont blow a bag out dude with removing the bump stops. we cut them down to the recommended spec with the bags so that it doesnt let the bag compress to much. Looks sweet though man just giving you the heads up dude. :happy2: :happy2:

had a day off and been to get tyres fitted today so i had to try the new wheels on when i got home.

front arches need rolling after impact forgot to do them so ts going in for that and a full colour sand to get rid of that nasty vw orangepeel.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fpp210%2Fdubwaydan%2FDSC_0456.jpg&hash=3c51bb43f8b7ca4b8fa3a5eb644e01930109f84b)

rear sits perfect just how i wanted , i was thinking it would need a 20mm spacer for inside clearance but it all clears fine. i didnt want too much poke.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fpp210%2Fdubwaydan%2FDSC_0454.jpg&hash=7337fbae7ad31b05534b10ee585960e7735aa810)

also im running 205/40/17 on front and 225/45/17 on rear may change this to 205/35 and 225/40 when i get around to it as my subframe is around 3mm off the floor, STILL NOT LAYING !!!!

one for good luck

You still go the LM's on? Think I remember you saying that you had changed the colour of them.
How long have you owned the motor? Any idea of how much you spent on it, or does it hurt to think about that sort of thing?

Pretty sure he still has it. Just doesn't go to shows, prefers to DJ and bike I think.
It was his rear bumper that I stole the idea of for my old one that's on Carlo's ED30 now.
