Right thought id start a build thread as been hovering around on here for a while.
So from the start, My girlfriend became pregnant and we were expecting a little boy. My life is now all about to change. So it was time for my pride and joy to go :(
My t5 had done me very well but i needed the money out of it to get a family car, move out etc etc.
so here she is (as seen in the new gti calendar)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fi243%2Fmr8322_2006%2FIMG_1536_zpse353e1a2.jpg&hash=fabeadc4f8be14d2e6b463f7ae9382ded997254e)

so after spending a load of money on airride, new wheels, and loads of other stuff the plan was completely scrapped. Van was sold and my heart was broken.....Bank balance looked good though.
My girlfriend had a mini cooper convertible but this was a useless car with a baby so that had to go. So started looking for a 5 door, baby friendly car. But this was by no means going to be a boring car. Im car mad. Ive always wanted a MK5 golf R32 but after bit of searching they were out of my price range, plus just under £500 to tax? So gti is second best....and arguably a better car for many reasons. I found a well specced 5 door gti in black (not really the colour i was after) not to far away and went and had a look, was really impressed with the car and agreed a deal with the mini so drove away in "our" new car.
so heres the first photos
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fi243%2Fmr8322_2006%2FIMG_3683_zps0e52bf4f.jpg&hash=68f1ed35c20650ab5325437f63a33feadf67525d)

This is our family car, in other words my gf uses it everyday and I use it at weekends as a toy etc.
Im not very good at leaving stuff alone, but i new from the start i couldn't just do what i like to this car, it needs to stay a usable car. so no stupid wheels and really low... so the wheels from the van went out the window
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fi243%2Fmr8322_2006%2FIMG_3679_zpsb6dceab4.jpg&hash=ca04b226eeeb9935140e3e3c3e4e057636f015ff)
so i bought these instead
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fi243%2Fmr8322_2006%2FIMG_3765_zps50b59c83.jpg&hash=22eb9eb504e063cff971e4119a669c27f03932e4)
my mate works at audi and hooked me up with some brand new centre caps, nut caps and audi dust caps.
I also bought a load of cleaning products a u.s spec grill and a mk6 boot badge.
Decided that i wasn't going to fit the grill till my plate was on. This took the best part of 8 weeks which annoyed me loads. Finally got the v5 and got the grill fitted,my plate on and fitted the mk6 badge! only minor details but started to look a bit like mine

so after this the car remained the same for a while. i split the speedline's and had my good friend refurb the lips as the centres where ok for now. I had told myself i wasn't putting linglong tyres on them. So they were just put to the side and i was waiting to save for tyres. Having to support a family and being the only one with income everything is bit tight money wise(we all have choices so can't moan about it) so with the car if its not broke i can't really waste money on it. I was starting to get really bored of the car and really wanted the wheels on it and it lower. so after a bit of saving i decided id put some cheapish tyres (nankang ) on the wheels and get them on the car. With a set of h&r springs for good measure. so called in a few favours here and there and I've ended up with this so far

However your list seems to be a bit more than "if it its not broke I can't waste money on it" :signLOL:
Seems like you've got the modifying disease.

Looks great mate, this forum won't help you leaving things standard

Do you not own the van anymore?

I'm not that familiar with the RS3 hub lower control arm setup other than the mentioned 10mm wider due to wider ball bearing. I have had the "normal" TT mk 2 setup which is alloy parts and allows for adjustable negative camber at the ball joint. This gives at max. Negative camber 7mm wider track on top of the hubs being 15mm wider so 22mm in total. If the RS3 hubs are of the same dimensions and you ad a further 10mm you will have trouble running your existing rims at the ET of 42-48mm. Rolling the fenders won't be enough. You need to look at Kerscher or SRS-Tec from Germany that makes 30mm wider front fenders in reinforced plastic. I had the Kerscher solution along with my TT mk 2 alloy front hubs and lower controlarms.

Love those wheels but the OZ were much cheaper than the price VW asked for them. They suit well the mk5 too. :drinking:

Gunna follow this thread. Got you on Instagram so recognise the lovely t5! New wheels look much better speedlines just don't work on the golf IMO lively wheels and every other car I've seen them on they look awesome but don't do it for me on the golf!
What's next then? Gotta do something with that plastic rear bumper! (Don't know how gti owners live with it)
Nice car though I'm sure it will be in a different league in a years time!

Love the mk5 and in no rush to get a newer car tbh. :happy2:

Sounds good man :) I fancy some new wheels but don't have loads to spend, and when I do I won't be able to justify spending loads on wheels when it could be money spent better elsewhere on suspension or brakes for me.
I like the ed30 pescaras just wish they were abit wider!

They clear it by a fair distance, but the Hubs help this. I know a guy with a caddy running a ttrs set up and they clear them
-
Just to clarify @M9xxr (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=10512), what were the Splits - 19x9? They seem to sit very proud and subtly aggressively
After a set myself but not ready to pull the trigger just yet. They looked an absolute treat though  and in that colour, big winner (although I won't have the rim lip, personally prefer to be boring and have the wheels all one colour  )

Small update,
Car is away now for winter to be stripped out, caged, track prep all suspension, cdl conversion with a tte420. Going to be fun winter and even more fun summer
Got started this evening with the interior rip out :ashamed:

Haha knew you couldn't resist looking forward to seeing the progress over winter. Iknow it will be epic!
-
You really meant it when you said you wanted to go racecar didn't you?
As above looking forward to seeing the progression on this bad boy :happy2:

-
Blooming hell max. You will have to let me know when you've finished and I will have to pop up and you take me for a ride lol :driver:
-
You nutter :P
-
Little pointless update, removed the rest of the interior today (dash/curtain airbags/seatbelts etc) Need to get in the back with the grinder and remove all the rear seat mounts etc to tidy it all up. Cant decide on to rebuild my axx with forged rods and pistons or just get a cdl lump? can't find a definitive answer so will make a couple phone calls this week. Hopefully get the engine and box out in the evenings this week. Still wake up thinking I've ruined a perfectly good car :stupid: but i don't care

My mate Jake is building his car at the same time (he's a bit ahead of me) in the same unit. It brilliant fun doing both cars together and I'm proper buzzing to get stuck in and getting them built. cheers :)

From what I've looked at I'd just get the CDL lump mate, you can normally pick one up sub 60k for £2k or so and they have a better compression ratio for running bigger power.
-
Looking forward to this one.
-
Oh Jake, with the Fabia... he's a good lad.
Didn't realise you were around Newbury...
Just get the CDL engine, good for 450/500bhp.
-
Thought I ruined my perfectly good MK6 for DSG conversion which looked like I hit a dead end. Got there in the end and its so rewarding!
Things look doubtful and bad before they get better afterwards! Stick at it mate and see it through :happy2:
-

Yeah but that's the reason for new forged internals, they bring the compression down lower than a cdl lump and I know it's strong then. Cost wise it will work out the same but I'd have a better lump that should take abuse means I don't have to out lay a load of money in one go. Only big expense after that will be the turbo. I'll see, Engine is out tomorrow with fuel tank. Moving it next weekend to tylah Motorsport for some tubing :)
-
what size tyres are you running on your votex wheels mate?
-
Few more pictures for a update,
Dropped the car off tonight for its full weld in cage at Tylah motorsport. Very excited to see it all done. Heres some pictures from the last week and a bit of the strip down. Managed the engine and box out in 5hours on my own which i was happy with. (Im a carpenter by trade so not my profession) Fuel tank was something I've never even thought about removing but wasn't to bad, could of done with a ramp to get the car higher but still only took about a hour and no real drama. My time will turn now to stripping the block down for full rebuild :jumping:

All ready for welding and gussets, over the moon with it all. Cant wait to get it back now!

Got the car back today, couldn't be happyier with cage. Dean and his boys at Tylah motorsport have done a amazing job and the welds are works of art, very nice group of lads and even pushed my boy around on a mini moto he had to sit on! Time to get it to paint now!

Cage looks spot on. Looks like I know what's going to be happening to the car next year.

Just my opinion, but get the CDL and go for a bigger turbosetup, i did a cupra BWJ in my mk 5 GTI and a Precision 5558 turbo which ran for a year and a half with a comfortable 489bhp and 546Nm without a sweat, same initial torque as a K04 but it just kept comming and peaked around 4500rpm, fantastic fun and with the right tyres very fast :)
