Nice job  :congrats:.
Was the engine swap difficult (I am thinking of an engine swap)? Anything worth mentioning about it?

StuF - it's useless off the lights bud, 2nd and 3rd gear is where it's at

ohmeydz - thanks bud, FI for me only i'm afraid bought a B7 rs4 and was massively dissapointed, pretty sure this would beat it  :signLOL:

raz - thanks man, yes still a few pics of it floating about - still got the doors at the bottom of my garden

Jay - just left out the boring bits, just the 'make it look simple' highlights

th3_f15t - i don't even have any kids i know of

spankiee - me too, my dtm and RS are laid up while i use this haha

j400uk - thanks

MC71 -  :happy2:

SRC - my mrs has her beady eyes on this one, although i'm not sure how well she'd do as she's used to polo 1.4 tdi

GTI8v - it was the cheapest way to get where i wanted with the touran. reclaimed a fair wedge from golf parts and touran engine box

Stanipkiss - i've never been a xenon fan on anything (looks wise) but i'm a bit wierd  :stupid: i plan on facelifting it at some point but i still won't fit xenons  :signLOL:

rex - physical engine swap was easy part - both engines out and tfsi into touran including full front subframe / rack / heatshields / a/c pipes / mounts / milltek (extending 4" and down turns) and modifying intake pipe in 1 day

the hard part (i didn't foresee) was wiring - unlike mk4 golfs i'm used to messing with the mk5 / touran looms are pretty much one piece, half of the ecu loom is 'built in' to car loom, car loom basically runs from front lights to rear lights and everything inbetween.

after pouring 3 full days into trying to wire touran loom to work with tfsi engine i gave in, decided best option was to do full loom swap, this means every module / ecu / sensor had to be used from golf including airbag crash sensors and ignitors as touran items are not the same.

after dropping the loom in getting it running was easy, everything else took time - swapping heater boxes and controls as golf was dual zone climate, wiring rear lights (work slightly different to golf) extending many bits of loom for longer, taller touran, fitting sensors touran didn't have but golf did, converting headlights from xenon to normal, converting one (golf) wiper motor wiring to two (touran) and all sorts of things you don't even consider - washer bottle with level sensor, rain sensor, twin horns etc etc

teo_parvu - only thing i've managed to annoy so far is 370z and golf R

Thought so....
The wiring is what is scaring me. But I guess it should be easier since I have a Golf.
Do you think I might have some unforeseen problems? Or any advice on how to select the 'donor' car?
Thank you  :notworthy:

Epic build, an awesome amount of work too which is great to see!

I'd love to own this car, the joy of seeing the look on people faces when it flys down the road would be brilliant!

If it was me I'd 100% have a TDi badge on the rear just to really add to the effect! :happy2:

rex - if you're really planning on doing it i have some rough wire translations. if you have full car it's not terrible - rear end wiring took a fair time as wires aren't even close to similar colours. i'd get the nearest spec 5 door golf i could.

i had to buy a few parts off ebay as i'd left them in the golf - side airbag ignitors (behind b pillar trim) crash sensors (inside doors on golf) touran doesn't have them. also where i converted to climatronic i needed a 'sun sensor' that fits touran dash (on top centre) and that plugs into golf loom.

there's a few things like airbag plugs different so need chopping off touran loom and soldering to golf loom, golf has tweeters in front door loom where touran has them in the dash

clocks didn't drop straight in, took a bit of shaving to get them into the dash, exhaust is the same all the way through but is longer on the touran around the rear wheel area, all hangers before and after match up but needs extending just before the rear wheel.

front subframe / rack etc is all the same fitment as are struts

the touran fsi pump seems to be a mash up of mk5 and mk4 but you can simply bolt the golf pump pot part to the sender and top of touran pump, you'll need to tend to fuel lines too and fit golf 6.6 bar filter and remove one of the touran return lines from the engine bay (blue)

Bignod00 - thanks bud, people hear the noise and chatter and look around bemused trying to see what that sound was as it certainly wasn't that family wagon

regards badge it's still wearing the 1.6 FSI badge with pride  :happy2:

lyons - thanks bud, unfortunately i need all the help / width i can get to get traction - agreed purchase of some 18x9's earlier

JaseGti -  :signLOL: just a silly thing i wanted to do since owning a dirty diesel touran a couple of years ago, always fancied a petrol one with power. seeing as the biggest petrol model they do is the 1.6 fsi powerhouse @104bhp  :notworthy: i had to build one.

hedge -   :happy2:

skard - most of it's laying around the workshop

Bignod - thanks bud, decided to sort the interior and bodywork then start looking at quattro conversion

Andy-GTI - it has suprised a couple of people, i haven't really 'raced' anything in it, just people sat on my bumper i drop it down a cog or 2 and they don't seem to keen to sit up my butt anymore

spankiee - i like them off the car but when they went on they were just too small looking. i've always fancied some helios and i think they suit this rather well.

tommy_d - thanks bud, it's been something i've wanted to do for a couple of years now and was finally in a position to do it.

I like this. Very left field!

I remember your white Bora over on ukmkivs too. Seems a few of us have moved on to mk5s!

The work on that so far looks fantastic! If only VW made something like this from the factory to go along side the zafira vxr, I think it would have took off!

AJP - thanks bud, yea bora's long gone but still float about on uk-mkivs  :happy2:

Tfsi_Mike - thanks, i do like to have a car i can 'build' i have an RS4 but you can do barely anything worth while or that you can get stuck into it's so boring.

andybon - i was a little suprised the biggest petrol offering in a touran was the 1.6, fully loaded the thing is useless, been a long time since i had to downshift mid hill climb

The Helios are my favourite wheel for the Golf mk5 but they're too big and too heavy, though. Not for my kind of driving.

What are your future plans? I can't think of much else to do.

Well the bits have started to trickle through

Short shift

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Follethalb%2Ftouran_2%2F9D99BC95-1365-406D-B803-08E21A4E3B88_zps1w82anlw.jpg&hash=ebef4942ee17eba849b334f291c1a2e0a23290c2)

Some headlights

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Follethalb%2Ftouran_2%2F6134762C-024D-43E2-B702-C5B76877EF56_zpsiidtuzki.jpg&hash=0fe737eccded18c1010f64a5e8f9a098452c13bb)

And bought this last night

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Follethalb%2Ftouran_2%2F7E602823-68E5-4690-A69A-D58555B683EE_zpsiohokgv0.jpg&hash=7d310bd773eb27f27a972b4962afef90e6acdd77)

Also fitted the shifter last night with the washer mod, i only wanted to reduce forward and backward throw a little without making it notchy as the touran lever seemed a little longer throw than the golf but it feels much better now

shoduchi - the dash from 2003 - 2014 is basically the same but with little tweaks as above so makes it easier to update it a little.

sending my spare k04 off to have the TTE 420 treatment hopefully it's ok or i'll have to send the one off the car to them.

Aleksaa - thank you, i had the gti seats from the golf but i didn't want a mismatched interior hence opting for the touran sport seats.

Title: Re: 7 seat GTI
Post by: olethalb on June 04, 2015, 11:15:27 pm
Dazza - thanks bud, hopefully it's moving in the right direction

Al - thanks, certainly sets it apart from the other tourans

Jay - touran leathers are rare and not forum rare or ebay rare actually rare haha, 7 seat leather even rarererer. And tbh i've had lots of leather interiors and have to say i much prefer half leathers which don't exist either, so only option would be replace front seats with gti etc and retrim the lot but i've been there too and not keen on going back down that road  :signLOL:

Minor update today, after being outbid on 2 sets of r32 / s3 brakes and being messed about on another set i'd had enough so widened my search and couple of sets of ttrs set ups came up

so messaged a couple of sellers, one was a messer but one was a straight up guy, struck a deal and went and collected them

320 vs 370

Title: Re: 7 seat GTI
Post by: olethalb on June 09, 2015, 08:42:01 am
@RICKITSPERFORMANCE - reduce weight and help turn in apparently, were cheap enough so i thought why not

@Dwarfus (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=11138) - thanks bud, yea straight but you have to make sure you get the TTRS discs not the RS3 discs that look the same but are not. the wheels are 19x8.5 et 45, i already had a 12mm spacer to fill the arches but there's loads of room - the added camber from the superpro balljoints have pushed the wheels out a little further so i've ordered some 10mm spacers. i think you'd get away with a 3-5mm spacer on this set up tbh

@Kam88 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=11200) - yes, he did have a mk4 golf that i bought off him @280bhp, he then got a BMW (told him not to) he hated it and got the R32 but it wasn't for him he is like me and likes turbo power and kept bugging me to sell the DTM so i let him have it, i went through a lot with that car but i know it's in safe hands  :happy2:

Post by: olethalb on June 09, 2015, 01:00:07 pm
Dwarfus - i'm forever buying car parts, wheels you name it, it was killing me stacking wheels in my limited edition DTM and as nice as it looks i was constantly worried about leaving it places etc etc, the touran is like a swiss army knife, it does everything i need, it's a car, a van, it's fast, it looks ok and drives perfectly. plus i'm an idiot and i like doing silly things  :signLOL:

Dwarfus - i'm forever buying car parts, wheels you name it, it was killing me stacking wheels in my limited edition DTM and as nice as it looks i was constantly worried about leaving it places etc etc, the touran is like a swiss army knife, it does everything i need, it's a car, a van, it's fast, it looks ok and drives perfectly. plus i'm an idiot and i like doing silly things  :signLOL:
Fair play, it will be a pretty epic sleeper.  :happy2:

Now the lines and pads arrived i could bolt on the brakes

Was really happy with the lines in black from hel and how they run using oem clips / route, i did have to add a spring clip though to fsten them to the body

So while i'm desperately trying to source a driveshaft for the quattro conversion i thought i'd clean up some bits

Tank fully washed out with diesel and wiped clean

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Follethalb%2Ftouran_2%2F9F9A081D-1B51-4B37-9226-AF9CF1D5B2C2_zpsopcwycc3.jpg&hash=f987009f885c5ac37d7e7d9197d9450671a580de)

Then gunked the box

 (https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Follethalb%2Ftouran_2%2F4119663E-2D06-499A-8683-A54713F9C08D_zpszayhmmhk.jpg&hash=7b1370306c8e3770582908965f9ae407aaec0ebb)

And finally rear assembly

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Follethalb%2Ftouran_2%2F3D16AF2D-2438-4BAC-B5D3-436E94F471DF_zpscjjkwwb3.jpg&hash=ab5cf765fba84acea4ad32b74810f68e9e575f2b)

While i was at it decided to fit my awd whiteline rear arb

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Follethalb%2Ftouran_2%2F3DE7D09C-2CFD-46ED-80B2-E706B9CB99E4_zpskiynwbgm.jpg&hash=a06a573aa54b65029b932f8404a45a57f238d586)

Yesterday finally had word from the painter so i could strip the front end out and start to refit

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Follethalb%2Ftouran_2%2FB14FB1E2-3EE8-4B4A-AD10-9D2720BC375B_zpsoycefoeh.jpg&hash=b7a389af5a5e8483c41c4003004efef4d849a65e)

And time to drill the spot welds off the ends of the inner wings

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Follethalb%2Ftouran_2%2FDCCA9420-067A-4A5F-B11D-90F4D8FA3B4A_zpsijteeuks.jpg&hash=427cfec0f597778fe86f1ee32759ebde261a2410)

Off

Replicated shape of facelift ends

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Follethalb%2Ftouran_2%2FAD32081F-E09C-4261-B35C-BDB63A545114_zpso18ebxlb.jpg&hash=83ad9bf39e879d8adbcea7e017fb30dadcc3d172)

Offered up new ends - this side was slotted further back down the leg

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Follethalb%2Ftouran_2%2FF6A1CF6B-0CC4-48CF-89C5-0A72641AFACC_zpsteumsop6.jpg&hash=64f0a47fa668c4afc01fa38bc5f729bfcceac685)

Then a mock up of front end, i didn't weld anything til i have the wings to make sure it all 100%

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Follethalb%2Ftouran_2%2FA306BA7A-A708-485D-B4DB-9245F3CA29BB_zpsllr1bzp8.jpg&hash=4eb16a7702a4497da47b1805c980b0ef6b3892d4)

Also luckily this is happening now i hadn't realised how quick my tyres had worn on the inside in under 1k miles - bring on quattro

Most of my ikea exhaust has arrived

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Follethalb%2Ftouran_2%2F3C2EAE51-A802-4FB3-BF62-8F171441092A_zpsibobqtwi.jpg&hash=c76be3a21d500b0ab338190675c2ec4572f5cf15)

I've decided to run the milltek tails from the mk5 gti system so gave them a clean

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Follethalb%2Ftouran_2%2FED9AFC7F-8FD1-4381-9D4B-2B679BD2AE48_zpshak9swy7.jpg&hash=e59f8dcc9c7fc6dae31c246e23d1114d955647c9)

Also the painter didn't come ladt night to collect touran so he asked me to remove the bits i'm replacing

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Follethalb%2Ftouran_2%2F56D02269-1D76-4C68-867E-5A05163E911D_zpsfakktfca.jpg&hash=af10ce96659b32c706b5f20ca3e3a4d53a0ce650)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Follethalb%2Ftouran_2%2FE85E96CB-B4F5-4723-8215-7940BB4FCDEF_zps3dxrqwmn.jpg&hash=653919d472a5d6e05199ea7d08a8d814dd367d94)

So bits being replaced / painted are:

Front end complete
Repair passenger door ding
Side skirts (votex)
Door handles colour code (replacements)
Rubstrips colour code (new)
Repair ding on rear arch
Rear bumper (non pdc - replacement)
Rear valance (votex)

So had word from painter body was done, he dropped it back last night around 6 and i set to it, was too busy to take many pics

So first on was rear bumper (without pdc sensors) and votex valance

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Follethalb%2Ftouran_2%2F2437DC15-96CA-4AD8-AAA6-A18A56AF852E_zpsouczt2x3.jpg&hash=fdcbd64ae0244b4278577468a341b89059fff2b4)

Then fuel flap, door handles and votex side skirt (he'd already fitted new rubstrips)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Follethalb%2Ftouran_2%2F14992800-C792-423B-B4B0-FE1F71BA9247_zpsf9xectir.jpg&hash=a25863012bf979a1fca2592f88edaba7c137d0c6)

The front turned out to be more involved than first expected, the wings didn't sit even close to original upper mounting points and the brackets were not available seperately so had to make up a pair of these

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Follethalb%2Ftouran_2%2FD5DB7CAB-5ED3-492B-8810-2FB5C8BD7AB9_zpsatoivklt.jpg&hash=e4d6d448099e0715d2353eea3edaeca8f6b7971b)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Follethalb%2Ftouran_2%2F4EDCFBCE-E818-4F46-8C28-883CF0A3884A_zpsyjimrezp.jpg&hash=3f28c69ff1c668269c76b277d58dcd328994973f)

I also welded the new ends on and welded the rear headlight brackets on, bought some bulbs - although i was advised they were all h7 two of them are actually h15 but fitted what i had

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Follethalb%2Ftouran_2%2F2C9ACEA7-B133-4650-B120-25EA65D94516_zpsqcwyxsxq.jpg&hash=0bed271d1478873dfcadc1b0fb2fe335ec88d8bd)

Spent a little time jiggling the front around and roughly bolted it up

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Follethalb%2Ftouran_2%2F3FA93B9F-C7CE-4673-B483-014A91C70E65_zps4evfovzq.jpg&hash=fb73e0e4f5af8fbb64ca9e5d1bef086146cb8fe5)

I also bought 4 new door rubbers but the rear ones look like someone had been using them for a sword fight so 2 more on order

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Follethalb%2Ftouran_2%2F5ED29636-AD45-4561-9D3E-84E63C472583_zpsyjrhfszn.jpg&hash=79389c3db6e27182fc91339ed89c9d819aa77a5b)

Hoping to get the bumper back over the weekend along with the bonnet lifter ( i lost ) bonnet cable (different apparently) and h15 bulbs and a few other odds and ends

Ricky - thanks bud

Paradox - thanks, the TTE turnaround is around a month for me but Simon from TTE is buying up lots of K04's to convert to TTE420 and have them on the shelf, they've also moved premises since i sent them my turbo so made it longer than normal

VW OEM+ Parts - thanks bud, will have to start getting involved again soon

Mike - thanks bud

Shoduchi - yea has been busy couple of weeks, thanks for the comment

ephemeros - crazy or stupid i'm undecided

Jack - you know me bud, always doing stupid things there's propbably a good reason more people don't do it haha

bignod - thanks bud, i am really looking forward to some traction  :happy2:

Nath - thanks for kind words bud, it's all good fun right  :signLOL:

percy - glad you enjoy bud

as far as the conversion goes it's done, i'm just waiting for feltham propshaft services to pull their finger out and do my propshaft, after giving it to them a week before i wanted it and explaining i had to have it by early last week they hadn't even started doing it by friday so looks like it's going to be a week late at least - thanks guys

luckily i managed to borrow a prop off @moores_motors so i could build my exhaust / downpipe around it so that didn't hold me up further. i also ran into the problem of rear subframe bolts, touran ones were waay to short, s3 ones were 15mm too short after a day spent calling bolt suppliers i started to worry - so took it to facebook and luckily my buddy moose managed to find the perfect solution - M12 X 1.5 X 145mm rear subrame bolts off of 2009 audi a7 quattro, so rang vw who got them in via TPS same day :

as far as the build goes i did underestimate how hard the rear end was going to be to fit up - i can confirm NO the rear floor is not the same as golf / leon / a3 etc - similar yes but not the same and far more work involved to get subframe mounted

also the fuel tank gave issues, the touran is longer in that portion of the body so all new mounts had to be made up to mount the tank and a new cross member installed .

on top of that the propshaft mounts i bought needed a lot of modifications/ fabrication, it was decided to extend the shorter part of the prop as the propshaft company was worried that extending the long part would make it too long and would give the 'skipping rope' effect

i set out to have it back on the road by today (1 week) i've missed that target due to the propshaft not being done but it's all ready to bolt up and hope it's all wired correctly and have no issues when it's 1 piece again

Was it a blue one? When I went to Silverstone there was a butter in a Yeti with a full TTRS lump/4WD conversion running about 550bhp. It was pushing GTR's up the straight.

shoduchi - me too, it's sat there on axle stands, added some tailpipes to the exhaust last night and started it up. need to get the prop on so i can test the haldex all kicks in before i drop it off the stands

dansmith - yea just down the road in bracknell bud, me and jamie always popping back and forth  :signLOL:

teo_parvu - track days and 1/4 miles never really been my thing, i just do it for fun - besides i'm too competitive, would end up on it's side or in a barrier

Had a couple of deliveries yesterday

Rich was nice enough to drop off MFD2 stereo so i could get that dog poo ebay thing out of my car

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Follethalb%2Ftouran_2%2F9DB21025-67C4-4077-A7BD-9599DC0411B0_zps3f1ixzsh.jpg&hash=63786785b03f3fc5764b778bbca21e137400f118)

No idea how happy it makes me to have a normal stereo that does what you want when you want

Also these arrived x 4

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Follethalb%2Ftouran_2%2F3D4D95B5-3035-4147-BD03-0CF106475692_zpsc5juxprh.png&hash=1dabfbe0f5dd1cb5713bfc43a4fa432cb5630b59)

And these

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Follethalb%2Ftouran_2%2F9CE33FE1-AC65-40A2-B0D8-B2EF8AC139CF_zpshjal4jav.png&hash=b0e19900d8a27a9196c212114c4ca2fb8d80c8de)

To replace these that the ebay stereo managed to blow up

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Follethalb%2Ftouran_2%2F2E32E971-AF1B-4781-956A-741EBCCF7685_zpsdmu8j1qd.jpg&hash=62188949d95b97aa365db1369da21da608dab201)

Didn't get any fitted pics but sound much better, need to add the rear 2 and wiring as the touran was pov spec and only came with fronts haha

Got these next day service from dag, mafe them up in black and posted same day

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Follethalb%2Ftouran_2%2FF055297B-6023-4AA2-B69E-B310FB0FEA9A_zpsuyuzqsey.png&hash=df562fb9325d60dd5df535bd571cee6d230d3d86)

Forgot to take fitted pics but i'm sure you can imagine, i've bought some r20 rear brakes too from a guy on ebay but 80% sure he's a scammer, we'll see if they arrive

Also treated it to a wash and another 4 wheel hunter geo, drives so much nicer :)

My mates doing a similar conversion on his caddy using bottom half of front mk6 R bumper plastic welded to mk3 touran top half. Rear custom R bumper.

Am sorting his electrics like OPS, OEM Xenons etc so will get some pics up in the forum. Its all a lot of work but your reap what you sew eh! Top job  :happy2:

MK5 ED 30 - thanks bud

oh may days  - sounds interesting bud, seen a few mk7 / r20 bumper conversions popping up on insta, i already have all the loom and sensors installed for xenons for where i transplanted the golf loom but i'm a wierdo and never liked the look of xenons  :signLOL:

J400uk - thanks bud, i'm pretty sure it is as far as i've found trawling the interwebs it's the second ever touran quattro (first being a russian guy - tdi dsg conversion) and one of 2 or 3 tfsi tourans, it's certainly the only tfsi quattro touran and possibly the fastest / most powerful touran  :driver:

Orc - thanks Ollie, i'm more of an Olly but still

Rich - you have no idea  that ebay thing ruined the car, it's stupid how one little constant annoyance can make you so angry, at least this one works without being shouted at or constantly prompted to do what it was made to do  :happy2:

Ricky - thanks man, love your car and wish i had your brakes  need to catch it in the flesh soon

Managed to pick up a full set of s3 / r32 etc brakes (only needed rear so will sell fronts on)

Ever since i went for the 370mm ttrs fronts the rears were dwarfed and under very heavy braking the tail got a bit loose, so been looking for the 310mm vented set up for a while, after a few UPS dramas (losing 2 discs) it all arived (in installments) i'd already bought shields and pads

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Follethalb%2Ftouran_2%2F2DD646DE-3B5A-406C-B882-090A81E01010_zpsqnnsroar.jpg&hash=790da7e64406d61c5a05198291d545095aed4a38)

So off with the old 286mm gti set up

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Follethalb%2Ftouran_2%2F9797D03F-DF51-4787-BC92-45857F0B31E0_zps1rfnue52.jpg&hash=342c1c8bc7c852782b468437f93f775b433b0acb)

And on with the 310mm luckily came in black to match ttrs fronts

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Follethalb%2Ftouran_2%2F81CE4A20-1E93-4EFE-B349-1AF710FF7C9B_zpsjxqhky47.jpg&hash=af2004ccdd1e4a30d12647b7b138380e4941673b)

Look bit more purposeful behind the helious :)

Also gotsome topran horns, somehow during the swap 2 same tone horns were fitted and sounds terrible so rather than mess about working out what tone is what i bought new hi and low pair

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Follethalb%2Ftouran_2%2FFE3D4DFF-66EB-4AA2-A71A-A2FC3AF5A385_zpsmlw3jhi0.jpg&hash=3dc163b12016a1966b56a2c8241cc4e7578eabc8)

Also bought a new s/wheel and gearknob yesterday, unsure of what they'll look like fitted but looked good in the ebay adverts haha

at the weekend it was treated to a mop by the painter and fresh haldex oil and filter again after i let it settle down after the swap, hoping turbo will be here in next week or so - although i've agreed to help a mate out and rebuild his mk4 after it was bare shell resprayed and everything is in boxes  :signLOL:

Very nice mate, who did the steering wheel? I'd like a slightly smaller one.. Do they modify your existing one? As I have the Mk6 style in my Scirocco..

I had mine rebuilt as flat bottom and 3 & 9 oclock retrimmed in suede with red stitching.  I forget the name of the company, sent my wheel to Germany to have it done.  Will try and dig out the info

Not a lot been happening lately, bought some passat r36 rear ap coilover springs to try and stem the squat as they have the higest axle load on the platform

Touran rear vs passat

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Follethalb%2Ftouran_2%2FC1C70CF1-DB8D-44A2-8140-5462DEA09570_zpskasvlsjl.jpg&hash=0573e8429204231d918a94003076f78de05fb3ee)

Unfortunately even with adjusters etc out it sat way to high, so refitted touran items while i consider what to do next

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Follethalb%2Ftouran_2%2FD4153F8E-CBA9-4F45-897F-47BDBA0283C3_zpsmsibdfjx.jpg&hash=998bb16c8c87c1535873b7dca636c91721a3322e)

Also decided to tend to my handbrake

Bought a leather handbrake off ebay but wasn't the cleanest so removed the trim and leather cover

Do you know if you could send off a k03 turbo to be made into a TTE420?
I thought the k03/k04 units were the same, just different internals?

They are completly different. :)

Congrats on the TTE420! What a monster this has become!
I'm thinking of it myself but, because i'd use it for timeattack, i really hope that it doesn't have even a little more lag than K04.

@vRSAlex (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1981) at AKS Tuning Is an official Uk distributor and there are options to send your Ko4 off for rebuild for aroun £1000 or buy a new unit for around £1600

Indeed.  Im so glad Ive waited. Granted Ive tried multiple Coilovers, Intakes, brake setups lol but a couple of years ago standard price of a ko4 hybrid uinit was over 2k and the spec and performance dont seem to have ever com enear tht TTE420. Glad I haven't fitted an inferior, more expensive hybrid already.

Seems to be rapidly growing in popularity the TTE420 hybrid turbo. I had considered it myself but I'm most likely going with the GTX3071R turbo upgrade along with some other bits.

Title: Re: TFSI BUS TTE420 arrived
Post by: olethalb on September 07, 2015, 09:33:14 am
Well late friday i decided i'd make the trip upto edition, so woke up 6 hours later, threw some stuff in a bag then 'loaded' up and set off

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Follethalb%2Ftouran_2%2FB986C768-9EA0-47D7-941C-EA5893DA09EB_zpsrtzoyncu.jpg&hash=37b560142ba18a643af2544723a4af5f30f3b5dc)

Got in to campsite around 8am and after about 3 laps found a spot, parked up and was getting ready to get a burger and go to view what was in show n shine, after being asked if i was entering the touran and saying i wasn't i thought why not! So i headed back to the car threw my bits and bobs in my mates jetta and drove round to show n shine entrance and paid my £5 to a few confused looks. Parked up next to a nice mk2 golf and looked around to see everyone with their detailing bags lovingly shining their cars it dawned on me i had nothing, not a microfibre nothing. I went to a few stands but most hadn't set up then i found the autoglym stand and bought a few goodies and gave it a wipe over

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Follethalb%2Ftouran_2%2FC56E8A6A-0D37-460F-9BE8-A526B9DAE0D1_zpskptz2tjh.jpg&hash=4cfa40cd9f67c3d70821baeeee591f43cfdcaf23)

Then added the standard insta photo

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Follethalb%2Ftouran_2%2FC56E8A6A-0D37-460F-9BE8-A526B9DAE0D1_zpskptz2tjh.jpg&hash=4cfa40cd9f67c3d70821baeeee591f43cfdcaf23)

As you can tell by hashtags there was no way in the world a touran with wheels was getting noticed. As the day went on and i'd done a few laps taking in some of the awesome motors my phone died so went back to charge it in the touran awkwardly while the occasional person looked around it and pointed it things haha. My mate asked if i'd help him set up his tent as it looked like it was going to rain so decided to drive back to the campsite.

After about half hour my phone rang and was told they were calling me up on stage, i couldn't belive it, then another call and another. So made my way to the entrance by the stage but the security wouldn't belive me so told me to go round the whole thing and go in the bottom entrance, set about making my way down the singke track and some guy in an old merc was sat in the way so gave him a polite hoot, he edged forward and stopped and repeated this for a couple of mins until we got to 'rev it corner' where he performed a standing 1 wheel burnout all up the side / front of the bus!

Some could me going through revit corner just after trying to catch merc man

Caught up with him and let him know what a plonker he was and invited him to clean the mud off, he declined. After doing a full lap of the site i was able to get in show and shine, a 10 second wipedown i was ready to go on stage (never a pleasant experience) you might be able to tell from the pic i was still a little less than happy with merc man haha

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Follethalb%2Ftouran_2%2F5B878F2E-9D8C-4171-885B-AAD22AE1701D.png_zpswuq9iova.jpeg&hash=e44a14bf26d9198255d42f9b03c1c0ff2f669524)

Was handed my award and megs wash n wax kit and drove off stage a very happy man, so thanks to all who took time to look at my bus and the judges for noticing something a little different - absolutely chuffed

Still No.1 project on this forum in my opinion. For the styling part you just need Touran 2006+ rear lights.

Do you have some plans with interior or you are done with that?

thanks chaps

i was a little cautious to put it up at 11k, as fellow car builders / modifiers we can all appreciate 95% of the time you never got back what you put in which is a lot more than 11k, it's a massively hard thing to put a value on but swiftly calculated i can get over 11K in parts if i piece it down. I'd rather let it go for 11K than break it and scrap it for 12-13k
