Wipers
« on: February 18, 2010, 02:00:59 pm »
Ever since I got my Golf the wipers have settled in the off position when I turn the engine off. Now they are settling in the fully up position when I turn my engine off.

Any ideas why?

They will 'turn' themselves so a different edge is resting on the glass each time you stop the engine.  Its a little trick to prolong the life of the blades apparantly...

Its also for use in cold weather so you can remove the wipers from the windscreen to stop them freezing on, in case you have a trip to the alps planned

I may have not described the problem correctly. They are sitting vertically when I turn the engine off. It may be that it's the service position thing mentioned earlier.

^^^ Yes.

You mean the blade sits like this   -->   |
Instead of  like this?    -->                 ---

Unless you are pulling the wiper stalk, then it sounds like an electrical gremlin. Try changing the fuse?

If the fuse was gone they wouldnt work at all.

Could it be some sort of Convenience menu function or programing for cold climates to always default into service position, allowing them to be removed form the windscreen?  I have no experience with VAGCOM, so this is just a suggestion.
