Electrics failing after driving a while
« on: October 05, 2025, 03:04:45 pm »
Often, after driving for say 30 minutes or more, the electrics start to fail.
First, the red dash display starts to fade until you can't read it. Dash lights may also dim.
After a while, this may escalate into total electric failure. Windows won't work, power steering fails etc.
After stopping and letting the car cool down, when you start back up, it works fine again.

I'm wondering if it might be an issue with a dodgy connection between battery negative and the car. I've checked the termination points and they look okay.

Anyone have any ideas or experience of the same issue?

Really need to test voltages and earths when it's faulting. Learn how to do volt drop testing on the main cables.

Have seen the earth strap fail from the gearbox to chassis before but I guess that would be a permanent fault - worth checking though.
