They are starting it on Monday I believe.

I'm going to try and convince the sales manager to have it moved to VW dealer by me, or Midlands VW instead, as I'd be a lot more comfortable that way.

If the engine starts being stripped, I'm getting a refund, or exchanging for a Clio 200

If you've bought the car from a dealer it should have a warranty of some sort and as others have said the car doesn't seem fit for purpose. I'd find out what the garage that have scanned the car have used?  Otherwise i'd be ringing the dealer and explaining the problem and insisting on a full refund. It might also be worth contacting honest john for an independent opinion or seeking legal advice from CAB or similar.

good luck and i hope it gets sorted.

Singh123, if he's free, will be able to get there sooner than I will. I'm not sure if big al has VCDS too.

Is there any way you can get the car home? Is it driveable? Then I can do the scans without the time restriction. Otherwise, if I can, will try to get there ASAP.

Will update you by 9-10pm.

I've spoken to Singh123 but he now lives in Bham too.

I won't be able to move the car I don't think - they have given me a courtesy car and I'll struggle to get it moved back to the repair place on Monday due to work commitments.

If you can't make it over, it's fine.  It'd just be nice to prove that there is something minor wrong with the car so that the engine doesn't need to come out!

I'm going to give the Sales Manager the choice tomorrow - get it moved to a specialist and I'll keep the car.  Otherwise, if it stays where it is, I want a refund or at least an exchange.

Wow. Didn't know that.

Anyway, I've managed to switch things around and as long as I'm back in Brum by 1000, we should be okay. If we get to the garage for 0900 and then we can do whatever's needed. Will need to be back on the road by 0930.

If you're happy with the plan, send me a PM about when/where to meet beforehand.

This sounds like a horror story , they want to strip the engine because of a noise and a light? I'd think they'd be reluctant because of the labour, it'd probably be cheaper for them to just take it to VW and scan it.

Hope you get it sorted mate but don't let it put you off GTIs

I had a 3 series once with similar symptoms turned out an engine mount had cracked.

Previous history was a horse landed on it's bonnet!

Don't suppose a fooked coil pack would show like this?

Know your consumer rights. Reject the vehicle; it's clearly not fit for it's intended purpose.

It sounds like a simple situation has morphed into a rather large problem.

It sounded like a coilpack has gone, and poor diagnosis has failed to find this.  It may be a simple as that.

The Sales Manager at Autoworld has agreed to move the car to my local VW main dealer on Monday, to begin diagnosis again. All work will be carried out by the main dealer too

Happy again, and I'll probably keep it now unless it's something very serious.

Also, thank you to StealthWolf for his very kind offer to come over and read my car for problems.  Much appreciated buddy.  :happy2:

No worries mate. The scan may have revealed something that you could then use to coerce the garage into sending it to VW anyway so glad you managed to get that sorted.
