SPAX RSX
« on: July 31, 2009, 09:01:57 pm »
Is anyone using SPAX RSX coilovers on the mk5? They seem a good quality set of coils with 28 way adjustment on damping. they lower up-to 65mm according to the manufacturers details.
I have a few questions:
What is the quality like on the ride?
Has anyone got a pic of a 65mm drop on a golf?

I was thinking of Fks but I want qualiy as well!
Any input appreciated!
Thanks Ollie :happy2:

i had a set of old spax rsx's on my old ibiza cupra, i would never buy a set again after driving the seat with those on, the car drove shocking with them on, handled crap, the ride was very very harsh, and the one coilover leaked fluid so when i got a new one it cost me nearly 300, these were the old spax coilovers, so not sure about the new one's , but the older coilovers that i had were crap

I cant remember anyone on here ever posting that they have Spax coil overs Olli.
But also i have not heard anything bad about them.
65 mil drop is going to be more than enough though.

I cleared some code off my friends MK4 GTi day before yesterday
It's fitted with these coilovers, TBH, my first impressions were not good

Crashy ride, harsh ride
Bound and re-bound were all over th place

I've driven quite afew cars on coilovers, admitly mainly evo's as thats what i had afew years ago - Tein, Ohlins and D2
All of the afore mentioned were completly different to the Spax on the MK4 golf
They were composed, matched and all round good

Took my firends Civic VTi (EK) outacouple of months ago - fitted with Tein Super Street, it was one of the best ride's - it drove so well.

If i were you i'd be looking to strech your budget and maybe look at the Tein Super Streets, maybe the Mono Block range if your handy behind the wheel.
Alot of people run the Eibach coilovers, personally not driven or been out in anything with them on although i'd really like to try them as i would like some coilevers soon

Just my 2p

What do i know, i'm just a thick window bloke

Thanks! Are you sure these are the newer ones that were fitted to the mk4 golf? I believe the quality of the old ones were shocking but they have been improved!
I will have a look at the teins! Any others you would suggest!
I was looking at FKs but the ride on those is bad as well. These have damper adjustment. I have spoke to a bloke who has them on their mk5. He said the ride is excellent!
I dont know what to do now!!!

Yes, i belive these are the revised versions - he's not had them that long

I've driven on KW Variant 2 and 3 - both good

Been out in, don't laugh, a mk2 Caddy van with FK's fitted, and although being leaf srung on the back the ride was very very good considering it's dumpped in the weeds !

Like i say, i'd like to try the eibach's for myself, but i'll probably end up with the Tein Super Street's as i know a guy ;)
