Looking to buy this tomorrow, any advice?
« on: July 30, 2015, 06:30:43 pm »
Hi everyone,

I'm looking to pick this up tomorrow if all goes to plan.

Just wondered if anyone had any advice re checking it over etc? Also, what do you think of the price, taking into account mileage, age, and the spec most importantly!

Cheers and as always, I appreciate any and all replies! Thanks

Ask for VAS scan to see what errors it has. :happy2:

Looks immaculate and tidy. Quite low mileage too.
Just check the usual 2.0 TFSI DV, PCV, coilpack recall history etc.

I think price quite a balance for the given spec vs mileage.

Oh and please check the water pump been changed when the ladt cambelt change done.

Can vouch for Sutherlands. Bought my MK6 GTI from them in April and they were spot on. I dealt with both Oli (owner) and Jordan and they were both super genuine. Their mechanic is a VW fan and knows quite a bit about the TFSI and TSI despite them advertising themselves as BMW specialists! They had my MK5 GTI in part ex and were more than fair.

What is is a VAS scan, is it VagCom? If they don't have the tools, I have a Bluetooth OBD2 scanner i use to read and clear codes with on my BMW (just legacy codes like bulbs etc), is there a tool that i could utilize that with?

Looks immaculate and tidy. Quite low mileage too.

I believe so too! I will do some research now but was unaware of the recalls in the first place! I doubt the dealer will have a clue, how can i check? :(

I've asked about the cambelt and waterpump...

I believe so, what makes you think they're not?

Not a bad thing pal, just they look sooo shiny, I very much doubt they are 8 years old!
Car looks good, I'm sure you'll be happy with it... a scan will show problems that you can't see (for the most part).

At the end of the day, if it looks tidy, has a good history and they are willing to give a fair warranty, be happy with your purchase, the GTI5 is a great motor! :happy2:

I suspect they've just gone HAM with the jet wash because there is black reminder at the bottom?

And I don't have the ability to scan it, what should I do?

Cheers for your insight bud!

Wouldn't be too worried about scanning if you don't have the equipment

Just make sure the usual stuff is ok, you can run a scan once you've purchased as you're covered under warranty if anyone is wrong

I'll take my OBD Bluetooth scanner and phone armed with Torque Diagnostics. I use the OBD scanner and BMWhat to scan my 335i for codes etc., so hopefully Torque will work on the GTi!

I will do all the checks you would expect to do on any other car, but it's always good to know the areas of weakness for the specific car you are looking at, e.g DV, PVC etc.

Thanks all, very excited to go and get it today, 200 mile round trip!!!

Yes I use torque pro apps with my elm327 no problem.
Can scan for errors but not as extensive as vagcom etc.
