Mk7 General Area / Re: Where would you go with £23k

They are all good choices if you want to stay with VAG.  The RS3 will have you at the Shell station quite often and you'll have boy racers up your backside constantly   They go and sound amazing though.

I'm the same age and went from an Edition 30 to an F30 330d, mainly due to the massively increased mileage, but it's proven to be a quick and fun car.

I would definitely get an M out of your system if you can afford it.  Running costs aren't that bad and they're easy to work on if you like DIY. Much easier than my ED30 ever was!

Maybe look at leasing if you don't do huge miles? Pretty reasonable deals on 8000 mile plans.

Good find!  Pretty rare for relays to go on these cars, and there's plenty of em'

Age didn't appear to be a factor in my case as I'm 51 with a clean license (god knows how) and live in a low crime area.

Adding my missus brought it down though, not that she ever drives my cars

Annoying as my ED30 was always around £350, so it must just be a BMW tax or something!  Too many road captains crashing their remapped M140is maybe.

In the end the cheapest cover was BMWs own insurance bizarrely enough.  LV= who I was with last year refused to quote

Good stuff.

I prefer the slightly laggy feel of the K04 for a more old school feel, but the harder hit in the midrange.  The K03 always felt more diesel like to me.  Good fun and punchy out of turns, but ultimately runs out of puff higher up the rpm.  Actually, the K04 isn't laggy as such, it's just that it hits harder when it does. VW quoted 221lb/ft at 2200rpm for the Edition 30 if I remember, which is torquier than it feels. That's the same torque as an R32 at the same rpm

Sounds like MAF related issues regarding your cutting out on overrun.  Might also be worth switching to the newest throttle body as well as they old ones were known to stick.

Looks like that has seen a lot of heat. EGTs got out of control.  Definitely replace it.

Not really, just a lumpy cold start/warmup, but should be OK this time of year!

That it's been flashed twice.  With what is anyone's guess.  Could be a dealer update, could be a remap.  Not even VW can tell you what it is, only that the checksum is different to factory.

Log the boost pressures and see what the requested is. If it's much higher than stock, there's your answer.

I changed my diverter valve today. I was getting a p0299 code coming up and researched that it could possible be that (my old one was horrendous!). Today i changed it and then when for a drive.  ---- The thing wheel spins all throughout the rev range in 2nd!! Even the sound is different! I mean wtf!! The difference is monsterous! I have vcds so i checked to see if the ECU has been flashed and this is what i got:

What could youse be able to tell me about this?
