My GTI's low pressure fuel line was beginning to split so I began the process of replacing it. Unfortunately I'm unable to fully seat it on the barbs of the high pressure fuel pump and wherever the other end goes.

Pic shows the progress I've made, the barb end was lubed with petroleum jelly before I began trying to seat the hose. It's pretty stuck and I'm also having trouble removing the hose to re-lube the barb.

Any advice would be seriously appreciated, this thing is driving me nuts.

Hello Everyone,
This is my first post on this forum. On the weekend I test drove a Tornado red 2005 Mk 5 Gti. Comprehensive service history up until the last 2 years, then couldn't see anything from 2024 onwards. 86k miles, so pretty good. Cambelt and Water Pump changed back in 2020. Bodywork in great condition. Drove really nicely (though I did feel the steering was a touch heavy, but was comparing that to my Toyota Alphard which has very light steering so probably no issue there!)
Here is my dilemma. He is looking for 6k for the car. He said that he would get the cambelt and water pump done and we could negotiate from there.
This would be my very first foray into the world of GTi ownership. I have 2 kids, so whatever we buy needs to be pretty good from a reliability perspective. My other option is a Suzuki Swift Sport.
So my question is, what sort of price should I be negotiating to to make this a good deal for me? Anything else I need to watch out for?

Hi,

First off the car is actually a TDI, but have used this forum before for my old MK5 GTI and found it very useful so hopefully someone can help.

Just bought a 2007 UK right hand drive TDI. It come up with an error in the main display and the bulb/light fault complaining that the LEFT hand side rear fog light is not working. It has a right hand/offside fog as expected and this works. The equivalent on the left is the reverse light. So why do I get an error for the non existent left hand fog light?

A couple of possible clues.
1) I read somewhere of a similar issue where the car was set to be a left hand drive car as opposed to right hand drive, so maybe this is the issue? A friend has a Ross tech cable/software and we plugged it in. But could not find a setting that seemed to match this. We did however find a setting to enable both fog lamps, which was set on. So we turned this off and reset fault codes and the issue disappeared with lights remaining working as expected. We thought we’d cracked it, but after 10 mins of driving the same error re-appeared.
2) This car has a different reverse light bulb than my previous MK5 GTI I’m sure (also a 2007). Note the rear left cluster pics showing the middle/reverse bulb. Is this correct for the year of the car, could it be that this bulb/cluster is incorrect and causing the error? As I’m sure my previous car did not have the same type of reverse light bulb.

Appreciate any help offered.

Absolutely massive thanks to you both, I've gotten it reseated and the cable sits a lot more snugly now  . Next on the docket is the odd scraping noise when the wheels turn

I definitely thought that would be quite noticeable.
How are the roads where you live quite smooth or pretty rough, I have to say they're quite rough where I am.

Yes it supports the handbrake cable. They just push into a rubber bung thing on the chassis and the cable sits in the hook bit.

Having my read this morning excellent guide, and various YouTube videos I’ve now had two goes at this with no luck and would welcome some advice.

My 2008 GTI now has the right CC stalks, I’ve coded through VCDS and can see that the stalks are registering inputs by looking at the measuring blocks. But nothing is producing lights on the dash or CC actions. The control module is the midline BC variant and as a 2008 car should have wiring installed.


Before I start buying any more parts to throw at it, any suggestions as to where I’m going wrong?

I use 16" for winter and I don't feel much difference when I go back to 18" in summer.

Hi All,

I have a 2008 Golf V Variant with the 1.9 PD TDI BXE engine and a 5-speed manual JCR transmission. The car has approximately 372,000 km on it.

Last year, it suddenly developed a loud humming/growling/whining noise above 70 km/h, which gets progressively louder as speed increases. [Here's a video (https://www.youtube.com/shorts/4vbNl6U1WMU), you might be able to hear it there.] At first, I suspected a wheel bearing issue, but I ruled that out since the noise doesn’t change during cornering or under side load.

I’m starting to think it could be related to the differential or an output shaft bearing. When the noise appears, nothing seems to affect it, not changing gears, not pressing the clutch, not side loads, not even different tires. The tone is only dependent on vehicle speed.

I replaced the transmission fluid, but that didn’t make any difference. However, I noticed that the noise only becomes noticeable once the transmission has warmed up, usually after about 10 minutes of driving.

I’ve driven around 10,000 km with the issue so far, and it hasn’t caused any additional problems.

I’m currently trying to save money as we’re planning to buy our first home, and I’m also unsure how long I’ll keep this car due to rust issues. Still, I’d like it to remain reliable and not leave me stranded somewhere, or worse, lock the wheel at highway speeds.

Has anyone experienced something similar? If so, how long were you able to drive the car before addressing the issue?

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience going from 17's to 18's, and touring tyres to sports tyres.
I'm probably due a new set of tyres this year and I think the 18 Monzas would look good but I don't want to sacrifice ride comfort really so I'm wondering if it's a big difference going from 17's to 18's.
Also I'm wondering if there's a big difference in comfort between tyre styles for example Continental Premium Contact versus Sport Contact.
Any input would be greatly received.
