Well done.  The plastic pipes and a load of heat cycles and age makes them brittle

How to Guides / Troubleshooting / Re: Leak in boot offside corner

Common issue on all Golfs and other models is the rear pressure vents that are on either side of the car behind the rear bumper.  Just done my wife's Mk5 and will do my GTI soon also.  Bumper off, vents removed and sponge seal binned while the vent groove is cleaned out......then used a decent silicon to seal and bond vent to car.  No more leaks and far less condensation on windscreen too, but interior is still slowly drying out, so can see that only improve with time.

Early/late warning signs it has failed or failing is the amount of condensation on the inside of the windscreen

Image is for example

Have you been out recently and noticed a Mk5 or another eye-catching car on the road or parked somewhere unexpected? Share what you saw, where you spotted it, and what made it stand out—whether it was a clean original example, a rare spec, or just something unusual that caught your attention.

Noticed a burning brake smell couple nights ago, passenger wheel was hot to the touch. Driver's side wheel was about 20 degrees on the laser gun, pass. side was over 100 degrees C! New front left caliper fitted from local motor factors (Apec) about £70. Sorted.

Just an intermittent P2015 code to fix now , Inlet manifold runner flaps fault putting the EML on, seen online can get a bracket machined to stop the inlet manifold runner motor over extending giving implausible voltage error.

Performance Modifications / Stuck Engine Cover Mounts - Cold Air Intake
« Last post by dadawg22 on February 05, 2026, 11:19:29 am »
Hi all, I'm trying to install a CAE into my FSI engine MK5.
I'm unable to remove the rear airbox/engine cover mounting studs WHT000898A near the firewall, using a deep 24mm socket just causes both to spin in place - plastic internals might have stripped.

Has anyone been able to resolve this issue without resorting to destructive methods? I don't really have any concrete strategies as to how I'll get those mounts out.

I'd appreciated any advice, I'm relatively inexperienced with working on cars.

Found the source(s) of my issues. There was a split in the brake booster hose assembly 1K0612041GM underneath one of the hose clamps which was not visible until disassembly, as well as cracks on the lower tube that runs below the HPFP (also not visible until I pulled the assembly out).

Replaced this part and started the car, which caused all the cylinders to misfire. However that was likely due to the ECU using the fuel trims compensating for the vacuum leak as after wiping the codes and driving the car hard I'm happy to report no more CEL.

Unfortunately I can still smell fuel in the cabin when the HVAC system is running, but I noticed that the hose for the low pressure path coming out of the bottom of the HPFP has surface cracks. Will replace that part asap and hopefully all will be right again with this car, at least until the DV goes.

Speaking of the DV, the car makes a somewhat concerning rattling/almost wheezing noise when the RPM's drop, usually after lifting off the gas. I'm guessing DV but if anyone has had similar issues I'd love some input.

Bought a Ramair oversized intake off Facebook market place and swapped the oem black silicone for some blue ones, gona fit my blue coolant silicone hoses along with the metal upgraded tee which replaces the brittle oem plastic one. Won't be keeping it chrome I've already scuffed it down an eitch primer it along with black satin black spray paint

Mk5 General Area / Rear spoiler
« Last post by Mod29 on February 02, 2026, 02:40:45 pm »
Hi all. Had to replace the tailgate on my mk5 gti, unfortunately the replacement is from a tsi so doesnt have a spoiler like the gti, already tried to pry off the original but it cracked. What are my options? There seems to be a limited selection for the non gti/r32 variant. Does the mk6 spoiler fit?
