Reverse gear

I am hoping this is nothing but I thought I'd better ask for piece of mind.
I have the gti for 6 months and 2 or 3 occasions I find selecting reverse impossible unless I release the clutch then engage it again then I am able to select reverse but a little notchy.

Yeah I get that once in a while. I just do what you say and it's fine. Wouldn't call it notchy, just that you have to encourage it in a bit.
Had the same with a couple of other cars, never really seen it as a problem!

Had the same issue on both mk5 gti's I've owned. I reset the gear selector cables and it was fine after, just went straight in.
Easy to do, have a search online I used a video guide on YouTube, I'll post a link if I can find it.

Thanks guys. I was worried it would be the gearbox as my a4 had similar issue with reverse and first but also had a whirring noise which ended being a gearbox bearing.
