Cost of a clutch change

Has anyone had their clutch replaced recently? I'm wondering how much it costs. Mines gone and have been quoted around £1200 to replace the entire lot. I knew it'd be pricey but I was surprised it was that high.

The final cost will depend on how long it takes, hourly rate and parts used.  Book time is about 5 hours.  It can be done cheaply at Bob's Back Street Bodge shop using EuroCrapParts stuff for less than £1200.  Is your car tuned?  If it is, AKS are doing the Helix upgrade (with DMF) for £810. Plus 5-6 hours @ £62.50.

You definitely won't get the job done for under a grand with quality parts at a reputable garage.

Changing mine next week - Not changing the DMF as its only done 35k miles... £150 for an LUK kit with new CSC... 6 hours is also an utter pisstake, it'll take me less than 3 to do it next week in my cousin's garage

I think £1200 is astronomical for a standard clutch replacement

3 hours  :grin:

I put a new LUK DMF in 30K ago (from ECP) and it's f'cked already, but you knock yourself out and use sh1te parts and see how long they last  :happy2:

Yes, 3 hours in a garage using decent air/battery tools. Have done it before on the car - they're really not a difficult clutch to change.

You do know what DMF is used in the helix clutch kits from AKS, yes?

Best I’ve done is 4 hours.  3 is good going  :happy2:  Wrestling the box out of the tight gap is the main faff.

Yep, I know the DMF.  Let’s just say the VW DMF is superior to ECP/GSF aftermarket.

Well the final cost was £1229.90. The clutch does feel a good bit lighter (as does my wallet) and bites a lot lower down now so much so I stalled it driving away from the garage.  :ashamed:
