I was just wondering, what colour did the exhaust tips come as standard on the mkv GTI?

I leave it to work in ans do its stuff while washing the rest of the car. 
Sometimes a kitchen pan scrub gets the worst of, but comes up nice with minimal work.

Being a bore, washing the car starts with, quick jet wash rinse, wheel cleaner, leave on, autosol ext exhaust tips leave on.

Wash car (two bucket method) wash car again - just for the bits I miss the first time ;)

Rinse off with jet wash, clean wheels, clean exhaust tip, rinse down again.  Towel dry. 

Depending upon the weather etc wax.

Comes up great each time

My last gti had black caked exhaust tips, I used really fine sandpaper (almost couldn't feel the grit on it) which took it back to stainless finish and then used autosol to finish,
I had tried to polish from the start but I was getting nowhere, took no time at all to get perfect as-new finish once I used the sandpaper! Might sound a bit OTT but it really works a treat!

When I got mine the tips were quite bad - so I went out and bought something called a mill tek - they looked like new after that, bit louder too  :happy2:

what grade wire wool is good for this? I've got v.v.v black exhaust tips and plan on buying Autosol but worry it may not get it off and may need wirewool ?

Ive tried doing mine with wire wool and autosol but I've got no patience and gave up after a few minutes :ashamed: its such a horrible job haha
