Just a quick PSA for all of you who have/will be upgrading your brakes. from GTI or smaller to the 345mm S3/R32 brakes. The ABS module has 3 options for brakes. 15", 15/16" and 17". GTI's might come with 17" set as standard, or 15/16" but cars like the Jetta or the A3 (both with the 2 liter engine) will most likely come with 15/16" set as standard even tho you have GTI brakes.

To improve your brake feel and brake performance especially at higher speeds, re-code your ABS for the 17" option.

However...

Even if the ABS accepts the coding, as soon as you exit, it'll throw a fault code: Mechanical fault - incorrectly coded.

This is because each of these 3 coding options has some wiring differences. Namely, 2 wires are shorted together:

for the 17" option, pin 14 and 39 are shorted
for the 15" option, pin 14 and 38 are shorted
for the 15/16" option, pin 12 and 38 are shorted

So, you need to open your ABS connector and remove the 2 shorted pins, depending on which brakes your car came with, and short them to the 14-39 locations.

After consulting the wiring diagrams, I did the above and the ABS module accepted the 17" coding, everything worked fine and my braking power/intensity improved especially at highway speeds.
