MK5 GTI issues - enthusiast wanted !
« on: Yesterday at 12:29:01 pm »
HI, I have a Mk5 Golf GTI DSG, 3door, which I have had since new which I have been emotionally attached to due to the years ! However, I have a problem with the Dsg gear box which I no longer want to throw money at and instead of taking it to motorway or we buy any car I wondered if someone on here would be interested in it. Just being upfront - as someone  I spoke to recently said someone would love it and would rather know its issues first. I'm its only owner, never been modified, has all the bells and whistles: 129,000, 18 " Monza's, multi function steering wheel, winter pack etc. Had brake pads and discs recently, plus new rear suspension.
Let me know what your thoughts are please.
PS, DSG runs fine and then PRNDS starts flashing and it goes to 1st gear and won't move out of it. If I stop for a couple of hours it works again as normal and then faults after 6-7 miles. DSG gear box was was serviced in January and has always been serviced as it should. Id rather an enthusiast have it who can spend a bit of time than buy it from an auction and not know anything about it. The car deserves some TLC and fun. Cheers Rach

Hey, I'm not in the market for buying, but just wanted to say that I recently went through similar issues with my dsg Mk5.

The problem was the mechatronics unit, which I had to get reconditioned. After that it was all good again.

Cost for me was about £500, but I'm in Poland, and I did the removal and refitting myself. So I don't know how it would price up back in the UK.
