AXX to BWA Wiring Loom Differences / Oil Pressure Warning
« on: August 27, 2025, 05:06:30 am »
Hello guys! As the titles suggest, differences in the wiring looms.

A bit of a right up but want to be detailed and clear as possible so I can get good answers back. :pomppomp:

So just had a BWA engine replacement (from Octavia) into my Golf which originally had an AXX engine. Was
I used the original AXX loom already in the car for the BWA engine
(all work done by a mechanic)

Loom differences
1. As the swap was being done, was told the BWA Hpfp would not fit my AXX’s wiringloom’ connector - AXX hpfp into BWA sorted this (confirmed difference)
2. Car now continuously horns on ignition 1 until I actually start the engine on ignition 2
- obviously some kind of immobiliser/alarm connection difference but not effecting start (confirmed difference in wiring after some read up, not exactly sure what)
3. Low oil pressure light warning on dash  (which I did not have with my AXX engine), main suspects..
  a) Oil Pressure Sensor in Oil Filter Housing
  b) Sensor in sump /
  c) Pick up pipe

So these are the 3 issues I have discovered so far due to the differences in the wiring looms.
Can anyone please add any further info regarding the differences and potential issues, if any??

Oil Pressure warning
AXX Oil Pressure Sensor (removed from Oil Filter Housing) now fitted to BWA set up is not workingNow I am suspecting the sensor(s) are defective as the engine runs amazing.. no roughness, noises from engine, performance. Diagnostic (not vcds) also states dead Oil Pressure Sensor.

VW have stated (pinch of salt as my local is not very accurate) that..
AXX (2 choices) - 1 Pin Sensor (06D919031) OR 2 Pin Sensor (06D919081B)
BWA - 2 Pin Sensor only (06D919081B)
Is this accurate??

Oil Sensor in Sump
I presume this is an Oil LEVEL sensor is that correct?
So apparently..
AXX - always has a sump sensor
BWA - Some do some don’t depending on car model
Is this true??

If it is true and my AXX has a sump sensor and my BWA does not, that might mean maybe my loom connector to the sump is disconnected with a none existent sump sensor in the BWA??
And if this is the case, would it not state Oil ‘LEVEL’ Low?
Or does it state the same Oil ‘PRESSURE’ Low warning for both Oil Pressure Sensor and Sunp Sensor?

If I am in need of a sensor in the sump, will swapping the whole sump from AXX to BWA do the job?
Or is there more I should know maybe sump size is different causing potential pressure change etc?

Loom choice
Should I have used the BWA loom maybe, or was it bet
ter staying with the AXX?

Thanks for you time guys!!
