Balance Shaft Delete - Vibrations?
« on: February 09, 2026, 12:21:03 pm »
Hi all,

I'm thinking about ordering a VIS Motorsport BSD kit. My car (2008 Mk5 GTI BWA) has done almost 240k km, and I've heard a lot of horror stories about the balance shaft seizing and snapping the chain, resulting in a loss of oil pressure.

I have a question for people who already have a BSD kit installed on their Mk5 GTI: did installing the kit introduce (a lot of) vibration? The car is my daily driver, so I'm okay with engine vibrations increasing a little, but it shouldn't be too drastic.

My engine mounts are fairly new (replaced 3 years ago, OEM).

Thanks in advance!

I havent installed mine yet so I'm also curious what others say. From what I've heard tho, as long as you're running oem engine and dogbone bushings, it shouldnt be that noticeable. If you run any poly mounts, it's way worse.

Also regarding engine mounts, especially the gearbox mount; they go bad pretty fast depending on how you drive your car or if it's mapped. I've replaced mine about 2 years ago and honestly it's so worn out rn that i can hear it clank. Only 50k km on them.
