'Must Watch' British Films - **Possible Film SPOILERS**
« on: August 07, 2010, 07:37:58 pm »
I need some pointers on some more must watch British films, along the lines of Guy Ritchies best and Shane Meadows best...

I've seen the likes of Lock Stock, Snatch, Rock n Rolla, This is England, Football Factory, The Firm, Cas, The Business and a few more hooligan/gangster/violent British films  :fighting:.

It's not English that I'm aware of, but I'd been looking to purchase 'A Prophet' as it had been recommended to me.
Are there any you guys can recommend along these lines?

Thanks

Sexy Beast is a cracking film, (it's named after me by the way)
Ben Kingsley steals the show.

Rise of the foot soldier is also good

Gangster No1 is another

Sorry boys, forgot to list some others previously, but I've seen Layer Cake (which was a good watch) and Green Street. Didn't rate the latter at all. Football Factory is much more of a realistic representation of football violence having seen some of it myself first hand, only mild stuff over the years

Passport to Pimlico... :signLOL:

This was made in 1949 google tells me - I'll give it a watch if you recommend it?

Essex Boys

Thanks CB.

You probably know but this, but that and Rise of the foot soldier were the same story, told in different ways. Both are good films and I preferred the rise of the foot soldier for raw violence from the slightly more first person perspective.

Yup I enjoyed it, a lot of the Ealing Studio films are worth a watch and plus there in black and white makes somewhat nostalgic.. :happy2:

Titfield Thunderbolt is another "classic" film too.

I like this too...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Great_St_Trinian%27s_Train_Robbery
