OE xenon height reset/checking
« on: September 12, 2011, 08:25:02 pm »
ok so OE xenons are self levelling but mine seem damn low recently, shining a very small strip of the road ahead!

so what are the settings and how do you accomplish a headlamp level reset?

they just seem wrong.

thanks
John

John check your fuses I think the range control is fuse 5? The controller is to the opposing side of the fuse box on the other side of the dash.

cheers Darren,

range control fuse is no 1 (top row closest to bonnet) and is ok (is the range control fuse used for both halogen and xenon?)

will need to have a look at the suspension sensors next

Not too sure regards halogen and xenon fuse mate, if you have vcds or use of it try doing a output test on the range control? If they move up and down on that test then at least you know its not the lights if they dont move then your going to have to check if the range controller is actually getting power with a multimeter??

Does everyone elses move up and down when they start the car then?

Perhaps I have a sensor out?

Borrowing vagcom tonight to try to adjust so will run an error check and hopefully if one is broken that will show it up.?

If you use the vcds check on the measuring blocks for the sensor positions if you hover over the blocks it will tell you if there in spec and if there not then you know where the problem is.

Sometimes when you jack the car up the rear sensor can buckle and the joint can go up the wrong way this will cause your lights to aim downwards.

quick update

i checked both front and rear sensors and they were at least both still attached and looked normal.

Well today it failed the MOT on headlamp alignment aka 'pointing at the floor'
The dealer stated it was throwing an intermittent fault code, so in the end theyve had the front off to check the wiring! (after being sure the rest was within spec on the levelling sensors + the motors did work if vcds 'tested'

I have to say Im impressed and theyve found a break in the lh headlight loom  :surprised: which meant on the self check when you first start them, it would fail and leave them pointing down.
I had visions of new motors/new lamps which had me a little scared as Im out of warranty and they are ££££££££

all sorted but not cheap at dealer rates!
but another years MOT sorted  :happy2:, oh and i can see the road ahead again  :signLOL:
