Tinting rear lights

I've got a set of standard led rear lights but i feel that they are a little bit 'light' with the silver/led (my car is blac I am thinking of tinting them either using tinted wrap or spray, or has anyone got any better suggestions on how to do a good job?

To be fitted: Reverse Camera & uprated headunit.

If you use tint spray make sure you get it right first time, I destroyed a set of OEM LED rears trying to get the tint off with brake cleaner due to poor finish, it cracked and lifted the plastic rendering them useless  :sad1:

I have a can of tint spray sitting in the garage, but after running a couple of tests I am thinking it has a 50/50 success rate, so I'm not prepared to take that gamble......

Personally I would keep an eye out for a set of R32/ED30 rears if you want a proper job.  :happy2:

I think I would be inclined to try Lamin-x.
I just did my fogs and felt it was easier than expected to use particularly on curved surfaces.
Light smoke might look ok but i wouldn`t go for gangsta black :happy2:

Think i'll try the tint film - at least if it goes wrong its easy to remove and re-try!

That looks just like Lamin-X but for a fraction of the price, may give it a go myself (after you have guinea pigged it  :laugh: ).  The only issue with using film though, is that the centre circle of the R32/ED30 lights are still clear, you could cut that part out of the film but would you be left with a noticeable ridge?  On the Lamin-X, definitely!

Alot easier than it seems and they came out near perfect, you'd have to put them side by side the real r32/ed30 lights to tell the difference.

The difference with mine is i want the inner bit (the actual light itself) to be a darker shade as it seems to be too light with the chrome/light bit - if that makes sense???

I'm thinking the tinting film will still allow a fair bit of light through whilst at same time toning down the silver.

That looks really good a nice neat job,it`s all in the preparation I guess!!!

I think I get your meaning, in which case tint the entire light with out masking the centres, if thats what you mean?

i tinted mine with tinting spray and it went fine apart from a small bit where im just picky, so i cleaned it off with white spirit and started again on one.

i would say tint film may be good tho as you can just peel it off if you dont like it. (never used this though)

Glass paint is the answer!! Comes off with a mixture of cif/nail polish remover/white spirit is a bit of an effort if left to dry for ages! I must have done my indicators 10 times at lest before I was happy with em  :signLOL:
