Was out having the Mercedes being attended to when I wondered into the Cape Hill branch (Birmingham). Cheap and handy for top ups.  :happy2:

Shocking, considering I had to buy an emergency 1 litre bottle the other day from a garage and it cost me £18.99  :fighting:

as you ask so nicely

I'm pretty sure the recommended grade for the petrol cars is 5w30

my understanding is that a 40 grade oil will be thicker at 100 degrees than a 30, is this a good or bad thing? I don't know

Yeah thats right. In theory its better for engines which run quite hot, ie the TFSI.  :happy2:

(sorry for my blunt post... wasnt mean to come across like that  :drinking: )

I was under the impression the TFSI needed a thinner oil, maybe using a thicker oil when hot reduces the oil consumption, they can like a drink

Its funny, some do some don't. My first GTI would use a fair bit, but the ED30 and S3 which both I got new did/have never used any oil. Could be down to the running in procedure???? or lack of it

I saw somebody on here nicely explain it the other day. They said something along the lines of, if you drive like Miss Daisy you'll hardly use any oil, but if you drive like a hooligan it will absolutely slurp it down!
