Golf V Trunk Sill Protector
« on: February 25, 2013, 08:02:22 pm »
In November had my Edition 30 rear bumper remodelled by a Hyundai 4 x 4 and happily its now been expertly replaced and repainted by a VW approved paintshop on the other bloke's insurance.  I wanted to protect the newly painted boot sill edge and scanning through the parts list I found this:

..which contains a transparent sill protector foil and the necessary adhesive and cleaner as well as a squeegee for applying the foil:

Should be pretty simple to fit apart from the stipulation the temperature should be over 15 degrees C - which seems a little unlikely in the next few weeks!

Anyone fitted one of these??

Be interesting to see what one of these looks like in place.  :popcornsoda:

I'm hoping its not too obvious once its applied!
I had my old Audi A6 bumpers protected by a company in Essex and the brilliant fitter hand cut the 3M material as they didn't have the pattern for my S6 bumpers. It was barely noticeable and did a fine job against grit and gravel and the odd errant cyclist and pedestrian!

Mountain bike frame protection film. Cheaper, easy to apply & remove, almost invisible when applied. I use it whenever I mount the roof bars or the boot rack. And it's pretty robust & shrugs off pram wheel attacks on the boot lip

The mountain bike frame film sounds great!  I must try it.  Do Halfrauds & Evans sell it?

A quick google & Evans should come up. You can also search for 'helicopter tape' which is a 3M product and just as good

If your looking to protect the boot when loading stuff in try hatchbag. They do completely tailored boot liners and one of the extras is a flap to fold out when loading. Works brilliant with loading dogs in, I'll upload a picture later.

Haven't had chance to take a picture of the liner in mine but here's the website link

http://www.hatchbag.co.uk/product.php?xProd=1160

They are expensive but very good, managed to pick mine up of eBay for £60 :)

^^^^ sh*t a brick fella.

Were only talking about a small strip protector for the sill and it looks like your prepared to transport dead bodies about!!
