Is this GTI overpriced?
« on: April 16, 2013, 08:58:09 pm »
So i want to buy this gti, been in contact with the seller over the last month or so.

Was originally on sale for £12,900 then reduced to £12,500 and now at £11,950.

Am i wrong to think its still overpriced?

I mean you can get an edition 30 for that money, but i am drawn to the fact it only has 27,500 miles on the clock.

Btw its a private sale too, so no warranty etc for that price.

What are your thoughts guys?

Judging by what I've read on here lately, you can get a better specced ED30 in CW for about that money, maybe even less.

It has no Xenon's, no MFSW, poverty radio etc. I think it'll come down in price a couple more times before it sells in all honesty.

I paid less than that for a 2007 car with 26k on it, when it was 3 years old.

I wouldn't get too hung up on mileage, my gti is just over to turn over to 100,000 miles and it still feels tight as a drum!
Plus getting a car with slightly higher miles even if its only 50/60k then not only is it a hell of a lot cheaper but the previous owner has already spend his cash at the dealer with expensive services so you dont have to.
To give you an idea, when I brought mine it had 85k on the clock, black 3 door, 18's with every single optional extra ticked from the factory apart from sat nav, Had 2 previous owners and I got it for a shade over 6 Grand.

Being sold by a dealer, so 3 month warranty must be included.
No mention of cam belt change at 4 years.

Way overpriced!!

Don't get hung up on the price , if its what you want and within a couple of thousand of what you think it should be then get it .

We were recently looking for a GTI for my son , started looking around 6k for a 2005 ish , ended up paying £8100 for the right one (2006) . Its a great car and my son has spent hours cleaning it already . He's bought so much stuff for it including a powered polisher , snow foam lance etc etc . Save me buying them too  :happy2:

So i want to buy this gti, been in contact with the seller over the last month or so.

Was originally on sale for £12,900 then reduced to £12,500 and now at £11,950.

i paid £9500  2 years ago, with 74000, dsg, xenons, 1 owner, mfsw no high line or RNS but easy upgrades,

Btw its a private sale too, so no warranty etc for that price.

you can get a warranty with warranty direct costs about £400 a year. covers a lot, but not everything.

What are your thoughts guys?

seller is adding a candy white tax and low mile tax, its just not worth that much money. get an ed30 for that if thats your budget! or i would say £8000 for this one MAX or look for another one..

cheers for the input guys  :happy2:

Unfortunately this is the bit that angers me, The actual seller is private but he has got his mate who owns a garage to stick it on his forecourt for him and try and sell it that way without a warranty and with outstanding finance on it too.

Outstanding finance gives you a clue i think to price and reason for selling

Its priced high as he needs to sell it due to owing money on it etc

Gives the buyer more power if you know that , its not as if he's selling it to trade up is it ?

Make him a genuine silly offer and see what happens

offered £11,500 for it - but the seller said 'ive already reduced it from 12.9k to 11,950 and wont take less than that.

to which i replied you had it way over priced in the 1st place - its been for sale for 2 months now.

I brought an ED30 with 32k on the clock with many extras and a stage 1 remap for 11500 and in excellent condition so I'd say its a little over priced.

looks a smart motor thew

I would say you would be mad to pay over 10k for a std GTI with 17inch monzas. Can get much better for the money, much much better.
