Fitting Highline? and upgrading steering wheel?
« on: August 09, 2009, 06:28:58 pm »
Hi I have looked around the forum but cannot seem to find a guide on these two subjects! If anyone has any info it would be greatly appreciated!
I would like to install Highline on my golf a diy/prices/where to get parts etc would be excellent!
Also I have brought a mk6 gti steering wheel and would like a DIY on how to remove the old one and install this one!
Thanks  :drinking:

I think there has been some previous discussion on this.  The dash insert will be quite expensive.  Do you have the original 4 digit security code for your current dash insert?  If not then you'll either need a tool to extract it or it'll be a dealer job to make the swap.  If you want to do it yourself you'll need VCDS.

Hi im a real noob when it comes to this. What is VCDS? Also what is the tool? Is it possible? What cost roughly? £100, £200?
If you could point me to that thread that would be great!
Thanks mate  :drinking:

VCDS is a third party tool which is about as close to the VAS dealer tool as you'll get.  Google will be your friend.

The tool to extract the security code will be software and an OBD compliant cable - not VCDS.

The dash insert is probably going to be circa £300 maybe more.

Not so much about a MK6 wheel but MK5 wheel change is pretty common.

I've done both mate but I had to get the dealers to code the dash as it was a late 2008 car. Even if I could have done the work myself, I would have still wanted Vw to do it and have the work documented on their system to rule out any foul play. It cost about 1 hrs labour so worth it IMHO

Isn't there more to fitting highline rather than replacing the instrument cluster? ...Thought I saw a thread where you have to dive into all the wires running thru out the car and connect them all up!??

it depends which Central electrics control module you have.

mine luckly supported highline, as it was a GT and sports quite a lot of the higher end parts
