Adding hardware to stage 1
« on: January 04, 2014, 03:07:28 pm »
Hi all
I've got a stage 1 map (r-tech)  on my ed30
It made 298bhp
I'm having a pipewerx decat and itg intake fitted next week and I'm booked in to r-tech the
Day after
Will I get a stage 2 ? Or will he tweak it for the added hardware ? And what bhp do you think I should see ?

Cheers Chris

Yes that would be "stage 2" should see 320-330

Need to tweak the map too don't you? (if you want to make the most of the hardware change and also to get rid of the CEL) Otherwise wouldn't the S2 map be cooking your Turbo due to the Pre-Cat restriction (even if it is Twin Scroll in this app).

If you are having a downpipe with decat fitted then yes you can run "Stage2" you then need a HPFP for Stage2+

Other little bits you can add, not sure if Niki will say add them or not is stuff like the RS4 vavle

R-Tech's stage 2 requires a bigger cooler.  :happy2:

The map you'll get is their Stage 1.5 which is your CAI and decat. My Eddy with an R-Tech stage 1.5 map and a BCS Powervalve Sports cat TBE and REVO CAI made 331bhp 337ft lb. would have been more but the OEM clutch was shot so it was bought back a touch, think it was 340bhp+ before that.

Add a cooler for their stage 2 and a HPFP and a RS4 FPRV for Stage 2+.

I might pop over to JKM next week while my wife's at gunwharf quay shopping and see if I can crack 300 on the heartbreaker, would be a right result but I won't hold my breath.

Loving that boost control flat to the red line.
Another "new" thing this map is running is my new LBK map, LBK is the Bosch German short term for manifold flap,  the stock Ko4 LBK and VVT mapping IMO is setup to produce air velocity to speed up and get on boost as quick it possible,  the side effect to this is when the engine setup is flowing better from an induction kit and elevated boost requests the turbo surges and flutters most of you wil induction kits and a ko4 have this issue.   What I have found is to allow the head to reduce the air speed velocity at 3000rpm and set the LBK and VVT to allow more air flow volume into the cylinders which in most cases fully removes the surge flutter sound / or Just gives a slight wisper of flutter at 3700rpm.    The other "up" side is more torque can be made between 3000rpm-4500rpm with a lot less boost.     On the k1 we developed the LBK-VVT mapping on made more torque at 1.3bar then it did at 1.6bar..
Next setup is to find a new ignition advance setup to work better with this setup to see if there is even more power to have.

We can offer this LBK-VVT upgrade to all r-tech customers who are running an induction kit with a ko4 and experiencing the flutter. All you pay is £70 for 2 hours dyno time to set it up to your car.

Other tuners offer maps to reduce the flutter but at a compromise to the torque output by lowering the boost

Yes... very much so. Does this mean the turbo is being overworked? Or is that the sound it it being kept in 'check'?

For a few years now nearly all ko4 tfsi setups have had this flutter / surge sound it's never really caused an issues but it's not healthy for a turbo so by reducing the surge has to be a good thing.  The reason I looked into it over the last few years what because customers / other members kept pointing out how annoying the sound was.
But by looking into it I have found another trick method to tune the tfsi  more floe more torque less boost which means less turbo stresses less heat.

^^^^ Sounds like a win win. Put me down for the LBK-VVT upgrade Niki. That flutter is quite pronounced and yes its annoying. If you can get rid off, good.

I'm back up to see to go from your Stage 1+ to your 2+ map at the end of February so I will phone up to sort this extra bit if it can be done at the same time.
