Mine were really bad when i bought the car fine wire wool and autosol for me too now nice and clean so only need soft cloth and autosol to keep the shine

So I started on the exhaust tips with 400 wet and dry, which took the soot and corrosion off really well but not the scratches. Are the tips stainless or plated?I

They are mild steel and will start to rust again almost immediately.

On mine we sanded them and then went through about 4 or 5 different stages of metal polishing to get them back up
They went horrible again after a few weeks even when coated in a hi-temperature wax.

Yip! I did deserve that, you were quite right. My excuse was I was feeling tired and hungover from the night before and didn't really read before I began to type. I'll keep on top of them for a while during the weekly wash and see how I go.
