What fuel is recommended?
« on: April 03, 2015, 06:35:18 pm »
I very recently bought my first mk5 GTi and I've not fuelled it up yet.

What fuel is recommended and what does everyone else use and why?

I have a completely standard GTi 2006 with 64k on the clock.

I've been thinking about using high octane but unsure. Help!

V-power is the best (for octane & cleaners)

Tesco Momentum is same octane as V-Power but doesn't contain all the additives  :happy2:

Does it really make a difference?

I'm just trying to weigh up the costs against possible benefits.

Yes.

Watch the Fifth gear fuel test on YouTube, Dyno proven difference. All the tuners recommend 99RON for a reason

R-Tech only get around 275bhp on a Stage 1 Ed30 on 95RON, but get around 300bhp with V-Power IIRC

Do Shell only do the V-Power one?

Do Shell only do the V-Power one?

No, they do a basic 95RON fuel which is same strength as every basic unleaded.

V-Power is the way to go, especially if tuned

High octane fuel works best with the fsi. The car runs more economical and get better mpg and obviously power gains.

Don't put in normal 95ron etc.

I always use V-Power. Personal choice :-)

There's somewhere that describes how the fsi works. It's something like 40% the car runs in fsi mode for better economy on 99ron.
10% in fsi mode on normal 95ron.

Google it, don't take my word for it as I'm close to what it does but no doubt got it wrong lol

Mostly V Power for me or Tesco momentum if I'm nowhere near a Shell garage. Noticed a difference in mine after I brought it and put a few tanks of VP through it, seemed to run a bit better, especially when on a 'spirited' drive.

OK OK I think you guys have swayed me!

I hereby declare that I will only use V-Power fuel in my beloved GTi.

Thanks guys!

Mine runs on standard unleaded and has done for very nearly 170,000 miles without any issues
Although it is unmapped it still pulls hard and fast

That's the FSI..... not TFSI. The TFSi does not run 'stratified lean'

Have a read of these and see the difference between the N/A and Forced Induction variants

There's a good 10bhp in it with 99RON vs 95RON (Dyno proven). Worth giving the good stuff a go  :happy2:

I noticed much more top end power on my stock k03 GTI which I switched to 99RON
