That CF looks about ready to cave in. :confused:It was probably the original CF @ a little less than 90k.
If your cam lobe has slightly worn, it will eat followers :scared:I will keep an eye on it. I deleted the banjo bolt which will make it a 30 second job in future.
Maybe worth checking or replacing at each service
Great work Dazza - that's a lot of DIY you've done there!!Thanks mate didn't think anyone was reading this.
Great DIY work :happy2:. Glad you've got the confidence and tools to do it all :smiley:Thanks mate.
Yeah probably! Haha.Great DIY work :happy2:. Glad you've got the confidence and tools to do it all :smiley:Thanks mate.
I've built up a nice collection of tools now. But i suspect my next DIY will need another specific tool that i don't have.
Need to get some fun mods installed. Will hold off on the engine mods for now and see how my cam follower holds up.Koni FSD and Eibach Pro-Kits won't lower your ride much. Unless you're just entering on your drive at limit, you'll be fine. It's quite a comfortable ride setup if you choose the normal Koni FSD and not the ones for the GTI. Don't think about fitting an Ed. 30 front spoiler, it limits you a lot from entering steep garages and drives.
Was planning on b12s or FSD and eibach springs but my drive is a pita :sad1:
This also affects my wheel choises as everything i like will look sh*t at this height really
How about some ARB's? Recommendations for an awesome daily drive? Mainly used on the school run!
DO you not find it strange that a job you started out thinking "I'd like to do that, seems like a good idea" very rapidly turns into an all consuming "I MUST DO IT, there's no other way"..?Every single job on my car has been like that apart from the cherry red hazard switch.
Seems your well under way with this already. I have the HSK 163 kit and the mid is the HL70. Much smaller unitThanks mate! So as usual i make things harder for my self by buying the wrong speakers.
http://www.hertzaudiovideo.com/hl-70/
This is a much better direct fit.
I think because you went for the "L" version the speakers are much bigger and deeper.

If i buy a smaller hertz mid will it work ok with the crossover?
I'm going to attempt and get everything back to together switching out a speaker or even all the speakers would be easy now that all the hard work it done.
i see your amping these as well. I've set a low pass cut off to protect the woofers on mineThanks for your help. I got the outer skin and door card back on. Cant seem to get the arm rest to fit properly. Probably due to the mid.
My woofers (HV165L) go down to 40hz but i set a cut off at about 70hz (and my sub caters for anything below that)
Your woofers are EV165L.5 and go down to 50hz so personally id set a low pass on the amp at 60-70hz especially if your going to be running the amp at a medium to high level. If your running a sub you can set the cut off a little higher even to protect them more and reduce any door vibrations and let the sub look after 20-80hz range.

Its all working off the head unit (well one door). I was expecting a massive improvement for all the work. Not sure at this point. But no distortion or rattles at high volume compared to the other door.
Will they liven up when amped?
With the tweeter is the wire with the red line the negative?
HL70 is the best option for the mid or is there anything else?

The inner skin in now deadened. TBH this is an absolute PITA don't think i will bother doing the other side.
I really had to push myself this afternoon to start on the passenger door. Once i did i got through it quickly i've already deadened the inner and out skin, mounted the woofer bracket and glued the tweeter. Hopefully tomorrow i can start on the rears and running the cables from the head unit.
I actually enjoyed it today. It was much more organised than the other days, took my time and tidied tools and sh*t as i went. Mainly due to knowing exactly what i was doing. I like jobs like this usually any excuse to get the soldering iron out.
I'm a little peeved that i cannot get the mids to fit as i know other people have fitted them.
@jedi-knight83 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=4296) did you deaden the door card? When i fade to the door that i've done it seems that all of the sound is coming from the tweeter i suspect its from the massive mid and the sh*tty positioning of the woofer.
@th3_f15t (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=8969) will take some pics and notes tomorrow when i run the wires through the door.
AFAIK the RNS-510 stays in standby around 30 min. after you switch it off.Ok will see how it goes. May have to run a remote.
Managed to get the drivers door panel to fit perfectly. Also changed the rubber part of the grab handle as it was scratched.
I'm thinking about replacing the ESK's with HSK's
Are the HSK's much better @jedi-knight83 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=4296)

@jedi-knight83 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=4296) thank again for your help.
Will the JL Audio JX360/4 be able to power these?
When I fitted my stereo (in the Golf), the RNS-510 stayed for 15mins.AFAIK the RNS-510 stays in standby around 30 min. after you switch it off.Ok will see how it goes. May have to run a remote.
Yeah if you've got the esk now you may aswell but personally I wouldn't worry amping them. Then bridge amp the fronts or use those channels to power a sub.

Made a bit more progress on the boot build today. Wish i had bought some smaller amps.
The hinge works needs some beefing up here and there. Need to decide how to get the sub box into the spare wheel well.

Yes mate a thermostat switch and a couple of pc fans. Maybe even some LED's :ashamed:Made a bit more progress on the boot build today. Wish i had bought some smaller amps.

Is there going to be air flow to cool the amps?
You can fit them, doorcar will bend out slightly but will be OK.They are fitted but the plastic caps that go behind the mids popped off.
Ah you got them. They will fit much better and should sound even better for you.Yes mate did not realise they will be that small. I wonder if they have as much mid bass as the ones i took out.

looks like a hell of a lot of workYep i'd better finish soon the neighbours are not to impressed with all the sawing, grinding, sanding and dust.
did you get your new HSK's in yet.
Great work Dazza! Your dedication (aka OCD) paid off! It's beautifully done! :notworthy:Thanks mate. I can't wait to get it all finished. Even treated my self to a new soldering iron.
Looking good mate! What the Iron or the box??
thats quite some soldering iron!? whats the extra box. Mines just a bog standard one and I'm rubbish at soldering lol.Its much easier to solder with a decent Iron. Also i've been told the solder makes a big difference as well. I've done a bit of testing the joints seem much cleaner. Solder melts instantly when you touch it with the iron. Not bad for £45. My old iron was 30w this is 60w with temperature control.
For me the placement looks great! :grin:I decided as all i needed to do was plug in a couple of wires i would get it all up and running. Easy i thought.
How did you find the sound with both sides fitted?
Sorry to know that your LC isn't working properly. Can you still return it and get your money back?Bought it off ebay second hand. I will have a look at the bit ten. I think the main problem is that i have no rear speaker signal unless i change the settings with vagcom. Then i am sending low level inputs to the LOC which is wrong.
Can you consider getting a LC Audison Bit Ten? It seems it's what can improve a lot your sound quality, for what I read. I'm too ignorant about this to be any helpful. :sad1:
I wish I could do half of what you've done so far. I do like to work with tools but I'd need some guidance for the 1st times.
Fitted the LED puddle lights i got from @Shoduchi (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=10590) It was a tight fit not much room for the wire and connector. The connection is not great i had to bend the pins and clean the connectors. I may cut the connector off the lights and splice/solder them in??Yeah, told you about the tight fit. These closed puddle lights from Bold Sport are harder to fit. I was able to push the wire to the available space and push the light into its place, while making sure it worked well. Once well fitted you won't have to worry anymore.
They seem to be working ok. Much brighter than the standard ones. :happy2:Fitted the LED puddle lights i got from @Shoduchi (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=10590) It was a tight fit not much room for the wire and connector. I have open puddle lights from Aliexpress on my GT Sport that were much easier to fit, but I guess won't be so resistant to water/rain.
A bit more patience and you'll fit them to work well, I'm sure.
Thanks guys how do i go about getting the bumper straight??Not sure what you mean about the bumper not being straight. You might try to release the bolts and retorque them with the bumper in the correct position with the help of someone else.
regards bumper allignment, maybe trick of the light but looks like headlight too. if it is, it's probably slam panel mis alligned, you may need to adjust left and right to get it sitting evenly.Don't get me started u know i have OCD. :signLOL: There is a bigger gap between the bonnet and light on the left had side. But the bonnet also sits fractionally higher on the left.
i'm a little OCD too, if it is slam it's easy adjusted and bonnet will just be the rubbers in the front corners need turning in/out to suit :happy2:Does the bumper have to come off to adjust the slam panel?
Sucks for the damaged cable. The cameras look great. Stealthy enough. :smiley:My fault lost my temper. Will get the soldering iron out later.
Bloody tourists!!! :signLOL:Tell me about it. They don't know that no one stops at zebra crossings.
That's the reflection i'm getting from mine. I've been reliable informed it's because there is "too much sky" in the shot. I have adjusted mine but have yet to review some footage. Thanks mate will have a play around with it. I think u can also fit a filter but u have to remove it at night.
Looking good, Dazza! Greetings from another Tornado Red GTI owner in the Barcelona area. Thanks mate about time we got another local member, I tried a Spanish forum but its dead.
Yeah, newer mk5's only have 2 bulbs (both my Golfs).Seems to be running nice now thanks mate.
Your engine is now running well. :happy2:
Where did you feed the wire from the battery to the amp thru the engine bay? I've done them before but can't find an easy way thru...?I have DSG so there is a hole where the clutch would be.

I will order another bulb.
I also need a bulb holder for one of the map lights. If anyone knows the part number.
Also noticed glove box light not working so will have to remove the glove box and check the switch.

I use Dodo Juice Supernatural Tyre Dressing.
Maybe the detailing gurus can recommend something even better.

Yes there is supposed to be a cover over where the pollen filter goes. Mine was also missing when I bought it in February. I'd get it replaced before winter comes round because it lets in a massive draft behind the dashboard. The car gets very cold if your driving at decent speeds. Thanks mate any ideas on the part number?
Picked up a replacement at VW, think it was around £12
It's number 13 that you want. Can't remember the part number though, sorry.I have the cover that slides in to hold the air filter in place. I need the carpet/foam cover for above the footwell.
Part 19 is the foam cover that goes above the footwell.
What on Earth has someone done to your GTI? :confused:It was probably the dealers lol.
I think there's a module behind the glove box compartment, other than that I don't know why someone would want to remove it? Just to pass cables it's not really required to remove it...
The cabin filter has a kind of foam cover, fixed by two plastic screws.
That module that was flapping about is an afs module to do with autolevelling on xenon lamps. Thanks mate i cable tied it. Why have handle with care if its for the xenons?? When i was pulling the glove box out i thought i may get an airbag in the face.
Just cable tie it to something.
:happy2:

It's a common issue in Golfs here in Portugal, at least. Get it professionally glued. Removing the headliner is easier with 2 persons to avoid kinking it. Some of the best companies here do it for 50-90 €.Would they re-glue the original material?
Not sure if they re-glue the original or an almost identical fabric. It looks good. :smiley:It's a common issue in Golfs here in Portugal, at least. Get it professionally glued. Nice goin Dazza..can you sent you're sunny weather other here..We are expecting snow :signLOL:Snow
How did that happen?Think one of the neighbours did it. I hardly ever park in the street as 99% of the cars in my street have been keyed. Yesterday i was working on my other car until 11 pm giving some c*nt the opportunity to do this.
I'm always inspecting my car before I get in it lol. I just gotta make sure there's no scratches or dents :ashamed:

It cant be that bad my wife couldn't even find it :stupid:
Hopefully it will polish out.
The cars looking bad not cleaned it for over a month. I don't want to get the polisher out as it looks more of a target when its the cleanest car in town.
Jealous bastar**!
I hate washing my own car because it hurts when you discover scratches and things lol.
I gave mine a bath recently, really has been about 2/3 months without a wash... soon as I finished drying it, we had torential rain, lol!I hate it when that happens. It is nice to see some beading though.
IVe done the BT install if you need any tips.Great did you put it under the ashtray? Will get stuck in later.
Great looking mats! :drinking:Bargain for €77.50. Considering they don't make them anymore. :jumpmove:
Great mats :happy2: :wink:Thanks mate. I'm always looking for the next thing to fix. I may attempt a valve cleaning later in the year for her 11th birthday.
Yes they are a bargain. Looks A+ and you made me curious about the bluetooth kit!!
I'll be interested in how it works! Love your thread here! Great learning school!
BT audio? Just setup using the Media button on the RNS510 then pressing 'BT'Thanks mate. Just about to order a new battery. Never heard of the one in there must be a cheapie.
BT audio? Just setup using the Media button on the RNS510 then pressing 'BT'I have the Bluetooth sign on the media page but its greyed out?
I need the ignition on to make the BT module to work. Only the radio isn't enough. You need the phone sync'd and BT audio enabled in the radio Setup, maybe. I'd have to check again. It worked fine in my GTI, although I'm sure that with Polar BT is easier to work with the BT module and the cluster to configure some options. Thanks mate so where do i enable the BT audio?
What parameters should polar fis have? I cant see mis 1,2 etc. Exhaust temp, lambada, and more.Do you have the Advanced version?
The voice command of the RNS-510 is better than the voice command of the BT module. My friend who fitted my new BT module (updated the loom and coded it properly) had to disable the BT voice command for the RNS-510 to work instead. Not sure what he had to do for the button in the steering wheel start to command the radio and not the BT module. :confused:OK will have a gander with vag com. Can you skip tracks?
Polar Fis +What parameters should polar fis have? I cant see mis 1,2 etc. Exhaust temp, lambada, and more.Do you have the Advanced version?
I'm sure i have the advanced. Does the + have bluetooth, mirror dip on reverse? It is the PF03? Just checked the official site and there's no PolarFIS, just the Advanced and other different modules.
Daz.. have you got part numbers for those?
The Premium module should show all that info. I have no idea what you need to do to make it happen, mine just did... I remember I had to unselect a coding option to stop making the iphone from playing music whenever I connected it to the BT module. Will try and get hold of a different phone, maybe its down to my Galaxy S5.
Nice instal!! Didn't know that vw had this :surprised: ! As I mentioned before great thread mate :happy2:Thanks mate. Its about time i got some power mods.
Keep up the fine work :drinking:
I've enabled voice on the RNS-510. The star button on the radio works but the star button on the wheel just mutes. How do i activate this?Have you found how that's done?
Have you found how that's done?No mate it still only mutes.
I guess I can check my codings and see if it's something you need to code. I'm not sure if the mic wires need to change position or not... :confused:Thanks mate, don't bother yourself too much its not a big deal.
I've asked my friend who fitted everything electronic in my Golfs. He told me that you need to deactivate the voice control in the BT module, so it doesn't conflict with the RNS-510 voice control and then activate push-to-talk in the steering wheel module. :smiley:I guess I can check my codings and see if it's something you need to code. I'd erase the error and see if it returns. Seems that the RF didn't reset properly before you started the engine.I've cleared the codes its probably the first time i've started like that. Surely women would do that all the time would not expect it to chuck a CEL.
You can always do a Basic setting to the RF and see if that successfully completes. Thanks mate will keep an eye on it. If it happens again i will get stuck in.

Or check the wiring to those sensors/components:

Not sure if they can get loose with time...
My RF engine can't adjust anything (RFD kit installed), throws an error on VCDS but not a CEL.
The first attempt at trimming the headliner was a fail :sad1:.What adhesive are you using dazza?
Not enough stretch to get it tucked in where the a pillars are.

I used some trim fix high temp spray but thats finished now. Going to use some brush on contact adhesive for the second attempt.
Is the spray not good enough? The spray was fine the material was not stretchy enough.
I ask because I'd rather have all info before I tackle this
Nice job mate... Hows tricks?Cant complain trying to make the best of the crazy world we now live in. Luckily i have a very long list of things around the house to fix which is keeping me busy.
I'm wondering why you are not upgrading it to leather card doors as it will match the seats. The seats are from an audi I always thought i would replace with ED30 seats but as its now the wifes daily it does not matter.
BTW I'm from Tarragona hahaThats nice to know i thought i was the only one.
