Title: Dubvrs 2008 GTI restoration and upgrade
Post by: dubvrs on April 04, 2016, 09:26:28 pm
Well after getting a company vehicle last year my daily became unused and thought I better get me a toy to play with.

Roll up this little unloved GTI. One owner from new and 80k miles. Interior is ok but leather has suffered a little and some interior trim. Exterior wheels have just been sprayed but bodywork needs a lot of work but looks ok from 5m away but managed to get it for 6k.

Pic of car as I got it tonight.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMobile_Uploads%2F2016-04%2F5B381F35-91F9-4DF7-A607-2419234559AD_zps8bhyhvy4.jpg&hash=ba8c82b845b461e2329454a0da06bb57241afa13)

Initial jobs to do.

Rust on front wings is only just starting but also a little on the drivers sill just under the wing.
Dents in drivers door.
Damage to passenger rear arch plus dent.
Rust on boot lid under glass.
Couple of rusty stone chips need treating.

Bit of mould in the interior as not moved since September.
Look at getting leather on drivers seat sorted.
Crack in passenger side rear quarter card.
Sunglasses holder does not shut as clip broken.
Rear bumper damaged and paint missing.

Paint needs a good going over as a number of scratches and moss.

Will start to order loads of replacement bits plus some mods.

Picture of the old daily that I will miss for its uniqueness.

Best of luck with your new project. I see you bought it in the best colour...!

I had a few things to do on my ED30 when I bought it - I mean, how do you dint the ali trim on both doors. It was a good car, it's now a brilliant car with MFD, hi-line, RNS510 added, plus loads more.

You've had some tasty motors - look forward to how you get on with this one!

Taken it for a spin tonight and seams like the thermostat is stuck shut.

Temperature goes into the red and coolant warning light comes on. Checked radiator and feels cool. Top hose to radiator was slightly warm to the touch. Away with work now until the weekend so will have to investigate further then.

Broke it within one day of ownership . Hopefully just a stat as been sitting for 7 months.

The AllRoad and Black MK2 get my vote  :happy2:

Looks good work, nothing particularly repeated across the cars which shows fresh thought, respect to you  :drinking:

Guess that's kinna someone like Luke @ Plush's job, to be paid to bring that kind of creativity to a show car time and time again?

Thanks for the comments I have had a lot of cars as I get bored once they are finished. I do enjoy doing things myself and making things. Kind of like different looking cars. Used to get a lot of questions on the Allroad.

Did a lot of research on the silver mk2 as did the 20v conversion myself when they were not that common. Purple golf had the R32 already fitted but never run properly. Took me a while to find out how the conversion was done to be able to sort out the issues but was worth it.

My current daily is a Mercedes Vito Brabus+ with a 3.0 V6 TDI auto running 270ps. Could be a great vehicle if it was not for the poor auto box. Covered nearly 30k miles in it this year.

Got my car back on Friday after having a new thermostat fitted. No overheating now just the fans run all the time. Did a quick vagcom scan and resistance to high on radiator coolant sensor so going back in next week for that but no other fault codes.

Managed to get quite a bit done today.

Firstly replaced the diverted valve. Reg G fitted and old one was a G but fell apart when removed.

Removed a lot of dirt from behind the front arch liners.

Stripped the front and fitted a Ramair intake.

Gave the engine bay a quick clean but finish it off tomorrow.

You're not hanging around that's for sure.

How tricky is the ram air to fit? Thinking that's my next upgrade.

Personally I love my H&Rs, a great choice.

Very easy to fit the Ramair just get some silicone spray on the inside of the hoses as it makes it so much easier to get on.

Got a bit more done today.

Mainly tidying up. Polished a load of fine scratch's out and touched in loads of odd stone chips. Still needs a clay bar and waxing but came up better than I thought it would.

Once I get the logbook back my private plate it going on and it's a 5 digit cut down so just going to attach it on the black section or get some magnets.

Temp sensor on lower radiator hose replaced today and no more fans running constantly.

Mirror indicators are full of green moss so ordered a set of smoked indicators and friend has a set of carbon caps he never fitted so will have them as well  :happy2:

The side bolsters of the seat aren't leather they're vinyl.  You could try one of those generic vinyl repair kits if you want to tidy up the bits on the drivers seat that have worn away.

I only know this as mine has gone too and I'm having it retrimmed in leather next month - it's a right con as it was an expensive option from new for "full leather"!

Aparently quite a few manufacturers do it, just the bits you sit on are leather with the rest vinyl.

Had a good day on the golf.

Replaced my cam follower which looked like it was the factory one as quite worn.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fr301%2Fdubvrs%2Ff74396470a719e8c0228c5480c558fee_zpsytf2xktj.jpg&hash=732b8cd00a75633814d39e20d2e3cab6085561cc)

Got my H&R springs fitted along with new drop links. Rides like oem just a little harder. Spent the rest of the day cleaning. Clay bar and removed a lot of scratch's. Quick seal and polish and came up very well.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fr301%2Fdubvrs%2Fb1edbbaf16e385de717e2036fc1055e9_zpsulzrogj6.jpg&hash=631a3fb4396b8c301249a3bc812ff558f496f8da)

Got a set of Highline clocks coming so just need to sort out getting them coded in.

Whilst lowering 3 of the tyres have damage to the walls on the inside. Got a set of Toyo T1R's in the garage so going to throw them on for the time being.

Interior all cleaned now and leather treated.

Found a crack in my passenger side rear quarter trim. Not to bad but the white line really showed up against the grey of the trim.

Got out my heat gun and gently warmed it up and the White has gone plus managed to melt the two parts back together. Looks a lot better and hardly notice it now.

Ordered some more bits.

Highline steering wheel control module.
Steering wheel with multi function.
Cruise control stalk.
Cherry hazard switch.
Carbon B pillar trims as my black ones need replacing.

After failing to get my spare key to code to the car I ordered second hand key off eBay.

Coded in first go so changed over the key and transponder and all working. Just need a new badge as had to remove it to get to the screw that holds the top piece together.

Some items got delivered so cleaned them up ready for a retrofit weekend. Just waiting for my highline clocks and MFSW airbag loom.

Hot my Toyo's fitted today and car is a lot quieter than it was just need to get it tracked now.

Worker out cheaper getting the carbon than repairing the mirror caps and getting painted.

Managed to get my cruise stalk, steering control module and wheel fitted.

Tested measure blocks on the stalk and re coded the steering control module but just need a MFSW loom now. Angle sensor adaption all sorted just need to test the cruise on the road.

Highline clocks have turned up so need to get them sorted. Local garage says he should be able to do them.

Good progress!!!

I'm still investigating what's needed to convert my 05 manual gti, with highline, so that I can have a mfsw.  Any pointers?  Buttons?  Control module?

With your car it will more than likely needs a new slip ring also.

Slip ring - 1K0 959 653 C Can get these on eBay for £20
Steering control module their are loads of versions. You will need a highline version. More info here http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Steering_Wheel_Control_Module_Versions (http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Steering_Wheel_Control_Module_Versions) think mine was a 1K0-953-549-BP

I also fitted a cruise stalk at the same time as only £20 off eBay.

I purchased a wheel with controls as they cannot be fitted to a wheel without. Will need an airbag loom with the wires for the MFSW Airbag wiring loom - 1K0 971 584 C

Cheers for the comments.

DVLA have screwed up transferring my plate so waiting for that to be sorted.

Stereo will hopefully be here this week.
Had a play with vagcom and done the following.
Beep on lock and unlock.
Auto lock and unlock.
USA running lights.
Fogs as cornering lights.

Still waiting for my MFSW loom to arrive.

Keep getting intermittent fault codes on the ignition so ordered a new switch that clips into the back of the barrel.

So that strip with the mark in his pic is vinyl? Wow that adds insult to injury, one bit that has always irritated me it the use of cloth on the lower cushion that runs by the centre console. Utter rip off.

Not got a lot done due to constant rain today but went through my parts bins from previous cars and got a couple of bits I can use.

Found 5 new puddle lights for the doors with looms so will get them done some time.

Found a pair of plastic door latch covers and fitted them.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fr301%2Fdubvrs%2Fd706b06fc7f8b2f9e3093af2714a63dd_zpsxjh6puxk.jpg&hash=5b161ada6b2303307c856345771252c1b8dac426)

Test fitted my pioneer amp under the passenger seat and fits spot on so will get that installed for my sub. Just need to order a box as already got a 10" JL sub.

Removed the GTI badge off the boot.

Ordered some more bits as well.

Resin 3D number plates.
OEM led number plate lights.
Pair of lower ball joints as the rubbers are starting to perish.
Mk6 boot handle and gloss black badge. Going to colour code the bit behind the badge.
Gloss black VW grille badge.
Number plate bracket for the front.
Set of new controls for steering wheel as mine have a couple of marks in.
Black coloured leather balm to restore the steering wheel and gear knob.
Set of window switch's and headlight switch with chrome on.

Thanks for this man, the Din arrived and as you said, fits like a dream!

Glad it fitted.

Had a bit of a nightmare on Sunday with the car. Went out for a spirited drive and got the dreaded low oil pressure warning. Left it to cool for a while and limped it home and it did not come on again. Garage picked it up on Monday and did it under warranty for me. Said the oil pickup was half blocked and cleaned all the sump out. Replaced the PCV this afternoon with a rev R.

Started the car and the cam chain rattle seams to be louder than it previously was so don't know if the low oil pressure has done anything. Informed the garage so just got to wait for the owner to come back from holiday on Thursday.

Currently working away but mechanic has had the golf in and check it over and said cam chain is fine so that's good. Oil pickup was 50% blocked so got it in time.

Carbon bits have arrived for my doors to replace the scratched gloss black times between the glass. Brakes are not the best after sitting for 7 months so got a full set of brembo discs and minted pads coming for the time being. Going to fit caddy rear calipers and Porsche front calipers I think at the moment.

Also ordered bits to do a evap delete as some of the pipe work looks damaged.

Found a pic from a local meeting prior to putting my lights in. Need to get my legal plates fitted as well.

Surprised how well it looks as paint still needs mopping again.

Had the intention of getting loads done today but got side tracked at my mates shop as he needed a hand with some vehicles.

Firstly removed all the plastics for colour coding and fitted the 22's

Then got onto Phils new company caddy. Lowered and 19" wheels put on. 2016 rear caddy lights wired in.  Golf mk6 mirrors modified to fit and wired in. Started rubbing down the bumpers.

Managed to find a set of tailpipe trims that were for my A4 so tried them on as my tips are looking a bit rough.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fr301%2Fdubvrs%2F7e17fedf3b426a99ab1bbd51f3484cac_zps3cvzk3cj.jpg&hash=c43cd352547d0336864a7bfd3e085d62c0c8c810)

Started on my wiper arms as they are past there best. Also got new Bosch blades to go on.

Sub box has turned up so will try to get that fitted over the weekend.

Will be going to VW tomorrow to see about getting my wings done under warranty.

Got them from eBay. Came from China but quality is ok.

Went to VW about my wings and could not be less interested so went to my local VW approved body shop and they were very helpful. They have taken a load of pictures of the wings and boot lid and will process the claim to VW so have to wait if anything comes from it.

Got my sub box all fitted and sub installed.

Wiper arms were all dry so got them fitted with my new Bosch wiper blades.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fr301%2Fdubvrs%2Fa84008837ee363cb935fe247eb4f5464_zpsrsapfu0q.jpg&hash=faa9512673f071fbc24fac4af5f355f07f4b067d)

Just need to get my brakes and dog bone mount done then will be happy as they are the only bits that need to de done to make it drive better then the mods can begin  :happy2:

What did you do to your wiper arms? I'm guessing a spray, what did you use if you don't mind.
I really want a sub in the boot. The amp under the seat is for all?  N finally can u take the spare out with this box?
You work fast, your water must be 97 ron round them parts

Just painted the wiper arms as they had faded with a couple of patch's had gone light grey. I used a Matt black graffiti paint from Halfords as it adheres to anything so don't need to do as much prep plus dries very quick.

The amp under the seat just powers the sub as I got it and the sub for the Allroad but was never fitted. Loads of space to get the spare out with the box in.

Couple of pics whilst I was out at my mates doing some vagcom tweaks to get the mk6 golf mirrors working on the caddy.

Not been up to a lot on the car lately as sorting out a new car as the Vito was racking up the miles. Pick up a Mercedes E300 Bluetec Hybrid on a 15 plate tomorrow. Will do me for a couple of months until my pickup arrives.

Got back on the golf today though.

Fuel filter replaced as old on looked like it had been on a while.

THS uprated lower engine mount which was a pain in the Arse but loads better than the old sloppy oem one. Bit of vibration but should loosen up once I get some miles on it.

Got the brembo front and rear discs plus pads. Rear inner pads had siezed.

12mm spacers added alround with longer black anodised bolts and lockers. Fills the arch's a lot better.

Not interested in changing sorry. Don't even know what it sounds like. Front box was ordered smaller from BCS apparently but yet to confirm.

Picked up the E class this morning. Drives a lot different to the golf. Bit weird driving down the road and the Rev counted is at zero as its still on battery power. £10 road tax as well.

Polar FIS turned up today and Focal front speakers have turned up just need some good weather to get them fitted.

Did you build your sub box yourself or buy it ? As I really like it and I have a baby so have a pram in my boot most the time so can't have a normal sub

Came of my mates mk5 as he was selling it.

Spent most of this morning doing the Polar FIS advanced. Pain in the Arse to get the canbus gateway out. Needed the firmware updating but works great. Taken a while to program the screens but pics below.

You need Polar FIS installed to get all that info on Highline clocks.

Managed to pickup a BCS prestige exhaust up for £400. Ordered a Relentless 3.5" decat down pipe to go with it.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fr301%2Fdubvrs%2Fd9138bcea56e16df2e10ae5c18e96bf3_zpslt3qwzsd.jpg&hash=156b8eaf1da6ea902e314edb678f0983e450ee48)

Still waiting for my speakers but they are on back order. Will get the tracking done tomorrow once I have picked up the new car.
Wheels look much better with the spacers.. did you have to get tracking re done after?

I did get the tracking done after but only because I removed the subframe to replace the lower engine mount. If I had only done the spacers and brakes I would not of got it done.

Id be interested to see what you think of the eBay version 2 intercooler. They look like they have the same measurements as the Darkside one, so like the S3, but with bigger inlet/outlet I believe?

Great build thread, lots of useful info!

There is a good video on this page for fitting it. Mine was 20 minutes to fit but half that was taking apart and re building the Ramair intake.

Got a little bit more done on the golf tonight.

After the n/s R32 light had a blackened area it bugged me so managed to find a used one on eBay and it came today.

Pic of black area.

Quickly got it fitted and decided to give the lights a clean and polish.

All done and a lot better. All the scratch marks removed.

Out of interest where did you source that r32 bumper with non r32 exhaust hole? Is it the one from Maxton design, been looking into getting one for my gt tdi.

Cheers,

Chris

Hi mate , looking for a way to mount my plate (other than the cable ties that im using now) where abouts did you source this bracket? Cheers, Sam

Number plate bracket turned up but paint was poor quality. Cameo off when you touched it so repainted.

May shorten it so it sits closer to the bumper but allows air into the open grille as it is.

Couple of more bits to do over the weekend.

I got it off eBay but I know the guy that was producing them does not make them anymore.

Had a trial fit of the rear bumper valance this afternoon. It does fit just not that great. Spent a bit of time adjusting on the top and got it to align up. Need to trim the arch liners down and adjust the lower bumper mounts.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fr301%2Fdubvrs%2Fff498dec9350b048d5e15cb1fbb9bf32_zpsqs4mclsg.jpg&hash=cf4de13d0a984e8826244545738ff684441af4f4)
Will have another go in the morning and also try the front splitter as it turned up this afternoon.

It is a Maxton design bumper. I got it from ppcgb through eBay as it's cheaper on eBay than there website.

Spent a little bit of time on the bumper today. Trimmed the arch liners a little and now fit the bumper fine. All mounted up now just 2 issues that are a reasonable easy fix.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fr301%2Fdubvrs%2Fe59b063cd63fe6308a96f4be2280e0d3_zpsycrspuy4.jpg&hash=b6b86e2b088580652b2ed545f1ef7057a79ae7c5)

Looks ok but on closer inspection the bumper sits slightly low above where the reflectors sit.

Will make some packers to sit under the top of the bumper in those parts to lift it up. It does move if you lift it. Will get it dropped off at the body shop next weekend along with the front splitter.

Wow. That bumper transforms the car!  Like the design is finally complete. Brings everything together, almost like its drawn a circle around the car.

Love the car Dubby, great look.

Was it easy choosing the gti exit bumper? I'm really struggling between r32 and gti.

Ive always wanted the car to subtle & nonchalant but people keep saying the r32 bumper should have been on the gti from factory. Plus i got the wiper delete like you and fog lens so symmetry makes sense :S
Ohh how i love this car :s

Keep up the good stuff Dubs

I already have a BCS exhaust and not a great fan of the Edition 30 rear skirt so this is a good compromise.

Went to my mates shop to pick up my wheels. Cannot beat a free set of wheels. Took a bit of time to get to them but got there in the end.

They are a bit heavy but not like my car gets used a lot anyway. Plus it's a reason for a remap to counteract the extra weight.

Last piece of my bits for the body shop turned up. Rear bumper but only using the top section.
Split and cleaned up top piece.

15mm adapters for the wheels have been shipped so can test fit the wheels when they arrive.

Is there much difference between the ed30 n r32 bumpers? I thought they were both taller and wider, just the r32 had reflectors.

I love land rover wheels. Those mondials will look ridic on your car.

Vote for silver/monza colour wheels

I personally think the ED30 bumper does not really look much different from a colour coded standard bumper until up close.

Thinking of what colour I had on my old CC for the wheels. Black base with course metal flake over the top. Look dark until the sun comes out and catch's the flake.

Maybe go for a lighter gun metal base with the flake over the top.

Might do a bit of vinyl work on them as well.

Where did you source them from? Did you make the adaptors yourself?

Got the speakers from my local car audio outlet. The adapters for the 16.5cm speakers were from the same place. Only adapter I need to make is for the mids as the door cards are13cm and the speakers are 10cm so will make them out of 6mm ply painted black.

I made mine out of 3mm thk. Abs plastic which seemed to work fine. I've got a CAD drawing of the adapters I made that I can send to you as a PDFs if you want.

Got my speakers all complete now so started on my damaged rear arch.

As I got it. Touched up the rust to make it look better but the lower rear of the arch, about 75mm were all pushed in about 5mm and the back edge was proud and pushing the bumper back.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fr301%2Fdubvrs%2Fb9aa551f651d41a78bba81ae6c091353_zpsoaohazzq.jpg&hash=2198cfdca8d373ba3d43c4cc8d30b83eb8584942)

Got my hammers and dolly out to give it a good beating. Managed to get the arch back to where it should be and removed the proud section. Will need a slight bit of filler when it gets painted but nothing much.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fr301%2Fdubvrs%2Feecf58a521958ac9ecbee8684839e024_zps6xwsnkuc.jpg&hash=9282b8d90c22ee45b7534661e39089e2888cc6d0)

Aligned the bumper back up and all good. Also treated a couple of rust spots where the bumper was catching the body.

Not done a lot to the car as still waiting for bits from the body shop.

Adapters have come and made sure all the threads were OK and all the wheel nuts fit. Test fit into wheel and all ok.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fr301%2Fdubvrs%2Fef078871c898c0c4bac55f5164d3ddfa_zpsh49tw9pt.jpg&hash=b6f1098d44207f7909be337712e666de1abaf344)

Tinted my R32 bumper reflectors. 2 coats of tint and 5 of clear so I could sand them down and polish as the tint spray never gives a good finish. Came out ok.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fr301%2Fdubvrs%2Fd699aa50fc36c02b963363bf03c6efdb_zpsrisri2a2.jpg&hash=38cc51333181122a8dcdb8a557371ea78bbec5e9)
Will polish them again once fitted.

Wheels will be done the end of September and just sorting which tyre size to go for, 215/40/18 or 215/35/18 to give me a little more room to lower more.

Super build mate! Loving it  :happy2:

Great mods and you're setting a crackin pace!!

I have focals in my doors too but I've had a mare of a time getting the crossovers packs to fit behind the door panels.

I've installed my crossovers in the same location as you but the door card stands proud by about a mm or so :ashamed:

How did you get on with yours?

I removed the black compressed styrene section from the back of the door card as its only there to mount the oem cross over for the updated speakers.

Nothing's happened on the golf as waiting the body shop still. Went to pick up my bits today as they have had then three weeks to only find they are just starting on them.

No news on the VW claim for the front wings, been 10 weeks so ordered a set of new pre painted wings off eBay whilst I do intercooler change and fit the ed30 splitter.

Hopefully get all my bits for nest weekend.

May try to get it done this weekend if it stays dry but it is a bank holiday weekend.

Managed to order a set of R32 side skirts in primer so body shop are painting them the same time as my other bits.

Shame the Merc had a reliable auto box that does not come up malfunction warnings every so often. Will be great getting back in a manual.

Went to the body shop this morning after they text me for my paint code yesterday and the barstewardss were closed. They said they were painting them this morning.

Waited for a dry spell and removed my sill trims.

Rust is sorted now and just covered it in primer and touch up just overnight in case it rains.

Trial fitted the wings and should not take a lot to get to fit.

Shame about the rust issues as it kind of spoils the car really. Had less rust on my mk2 golfs.

Cracked on with the wings.

Bonnet lines are on just the colour is a little off but works out cheaper for me to get these and fit them then get the bodyshop to blow them over when the sides get painted.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fr301%2Fdubvrs%2F8750c4595e7874119e3e065006541235_zpsnf8nk6y2.jpg&hash=ab68999a79cf1cda8f4447f48a44764fc993782c)

Passenger side wing fitted fine and all lines up.

Drivers needs some adjustments on the top by the a pillar as it sits a little high but should be able to sort it.

That's the beauty of paint. If you mess it up just sand it down and try again.

Managed to get the drivers wing to fit better. Got my hammer out and made a couple of adjustments  :happy2:

Did a couple of bits in preparation for the mondials.

Painted the outside edge of the adapters in the same paint as the discs so you don't notice them behind the wheels once they are gloss black.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fr301%2Fdubvrs%2F4eb00fef5e50e247ad16565e45c448e7_zpsvtirxqir.jpg&hash=cae65c9c4fd47e6b121acd2c09b07f8f110aa0e5)

Centre caps painted just need a couple more coats of clear so I can polish them up.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fr301%2Fdubvrs%2Fa5116e832b6b024a6f678848dcb9cef3_zpsmzqpu4tq.jpg&hash=75eae7c00b309fbe5660d52451ca91ec51879ceb)

Been to the bodyshop this morning to sort out the next phase of work so will be getting done over winter.

Plan is to firstly remove the side strips on the door and rear quarter then weld up the holes left. Repair the rear arch. Paint the side and bonnet and blow it into the front bumper. Will get rear quarter glass removed and replaced with privacy version at the same time.

Will go in at a later date for the drivers side.

Going to get a non GTI boot and get it painted with a privacy glass fitted with a carbon spoiler to go with gloss black roof.

Gave the golf a wash as it was covered in spiders webs. Thought I might as well fit the side skirts until it goes in the bodyshop.

Did a bit more on the golf this afternoon.

After fitting the front wings the bonnet was sitting forward so did a bit of alignment and fits a lot better with the wings.

I'd paint the wheels inserts in gloss black like the mk6 GTI have. Prefer it to grey inserts.

This is looking awesome especially the rear end.... have you thought about getting a plate made up with magnets? Would look great.
Quick question, with your rear valance have you had the lower left abs or painted it gloss? Thinking of going for a similar rear.

Police are very hot on number plates now so keep it legal as it is.

Lower section of bumper is gloss black same as the front.

I use engine enamel as it takes a while to dry but gives a nice smooth finish and does not get effected by heat. Two coats is normally all you need. Brakes cleaned up the excess paint but I go over it with panel wipe to get most of it off first.

Do you happen to know the internal volume?

Looking forward to seeing the car all put together again  :drinking:

you have a lovely car there mate and I love what you have done with it. Love those wheels :happy2:
I can't remember for the life of me what that wheel line up thingy is called you have sticking out the disc?
Also where did you get it and how much as I want at least 3 as the s3 brakes are tight under the 17s and it would make it easy for me haha

These are the ones I have http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-Alloy-Wheel-Bolt-Stud-Alignment-Align-Tool-M14-x-1-5-/231466008055?hash=item35e472fdf7:g:ypUAAOSwbYZXXqum (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-Alloy-Wheel-Bolt-Stud-Alignment-Align-Tool-M14-x-1-5-/231466008055?hash=item35e472fdf7:g:ypUAAOSwbYZXXqum)

Car does pop and crackle more on over run than before. Seams to pickup better but just need to sort out getting it mapped now and decide if I go for stage 2 or 2+.

Not a lot has happened with the Golf as sorting out the nest step.

DV+ ready to fit.
Waiting for my autotech hpfp internals
Need to do an oil change and put in my Millers 5W 40

More bhp will be doing my stage 2+ map once I get all the above done. Mike has mapped a number of my cars and always had great results.

Hopefully get it mapped by the end of January. Will have to see if it needs a clutch once done.

Well thanks to a blind old woman my car has sustained a small bit to damage . She decided to make one lane into two and take out my mirror. Only cosmetic but the carbon cover and smoked indicator are trashed. Was very close to taking out the side of my car.

On a plus note I have all the bits now for my stage 2+. Will get my fuel pump internals and DV+ fitted in the new year.

Like the job on the valves. VW have taken a kind of backwards step now and in the process have recognised the problem of direct injection by adding an extra port injector per cylinder to keep the valves clean on their new engines. It'll be on the new 1.5 [yep, you read that right, 1.5] tsi mk 7.5 Golf coming out later this year.

You're Merc was lovely
Navara is super practical. I had one when I lived in Australia. 16 years ago!! I really am getting old :ashamed:

Shame the Merc had a reliable auto box that does not come up malfunction warnings every so often. Will be great getting back in a manual.

Went to the body shop this morning after they text me for my paint code yesterday and the barstewardss were closed. They said they were painting them this morning.

Waited for a dry spell and removed my sill trims.

Got the toffee wheel out to remove the remains of the double sided tape.

All done ready for my painted ones to be fitted.

Almost finished the other side before it started pissing it down.

Got my eBay pre painted wings delivered. Paint job is good and looks a close match. Will see how they fit.

Looking at the weather Sunday will be a washout so should be ok on Monday to get some more done.

Hi

Well not touched the golf for a while as was going to sell it but have decided to keep hold of it for a while and carry on with the mods etc.

MOT was sorted and shocks were a bit tired as the original items. Decided to install a set of AP coilovers as not that bothered about going very low just wanted a little lower than the springs.

Replaced the mondial wheels as they were heavy and wanted something different. Ended up getting a set of bola b5 wheels in 18x8.5 et45 with 225/40/18 uniroyal rainsport 3. Need to roll the front arch's slightly but they fill the arch's a lot better.

Next job is Cambelt and water pump in a couple of weeks then start on the bodywork to get it all one colour and sort out the number of rust spots.
